Wine belly

I need to lose about 3 stone. I have a lot of belly fat and I think this is due to drinking wine in the evenings (my weakness). I wondered if anyone could tell me whether it’s true that booze weight gain goes to your belly and whether there’s any particular diet that deals with belly fat? Or is it just cals in/cals out?

Thank you n

I'm interested in the answer to this as I'm fairly slim but have developed a definite wine belly since lockdown. I don't drink every night but will have 2-3 bottles a week. I am pretty active but I probably drink back any calorie deficit and more.

I used to drink wine every night, but have managed to stop. I do have an annoying tummy which hangs down. I have managed to lose weight everywhere else, but the tummy fat stays whatever I do, it does upset me. Whether it is due to my past wine consumption I couldn’t say, but alcohol is definitely empty calories. I have had three children which probably didn’t help with lax musculature. I will keep on with the diet as in other respects it is working, but how I long for this tummy fat to go!

Hi OP. Two years ago I was a daily drinker eg maybe 2 large wines a day or a couple of g&t's. My weight shot up by a stone and nothing I did helped to loose it. Decided about 14 months ago to stop drinking and low and behold I've lost that stone without even trying. Alcohol holds plenty of empty calories and in my experience, clings onto the belly!
