Weight loss on holiday

NoFalafel · 29/07/2022 04:24

Im currently abroad in the Middle East and really want to lose at least 5 pounds.
Im only eating 2 meals a day because its so hot but Im struggling to eat healthily.

Green salads are not widely available- nor are salad leaves in supermarkets.
Western foods like light babybels are so expensive.
I dont want to eat falafels or shwarmas...the healthy foods here are extortionate. Watermelon is in season so nibbling on that also Ive managed to find brown bread and peanut butter.

Any help gratefully received!

What foods are you eating now? Are you self-catering with a kitchen?

I find hearty soups to be good when I'm trying to lose weight, and you can make them really low calorie plus packed with vegetables. But perhaps you don't feel like eating soup when it's so hot and it doesn't work if you have to eat hotel meals.

Otherwise, lean meat and vegetables is a healthy approach. Cut out any carbs from whatever meal you're eating.

Is there other salady stuff - tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, onions, grated carrot?

Eggs, chicken and other lean meats are quite universal aren't they?

Plus a bit of yogurt based dressing to liven it up a bit?

Drink plenty of water and herb tea (also good cold with ice and lemon) and careful with other drinks to reduce the amount of calories consumed that way.

@changzi yes self catering. The meals I cook are lean eg lentils and soups etc.
The problem is when we eat out as a group...

@BarbaraofSeville I miss Asda! Where I can buy everything in one shop. The little corner shops here only stock dried food and cold drinks and icecream. I buy my fruit when I see a vendor wheeling his cart of fruit. I havent seen a veg one yet...

Im getting lazy and into bad habits like buying crisps and icecream.

You’re on holiday! Don’t think of it as “getting into bad habits”. Think of it as a more relaxed version of what you’re following at home. How long are you there for?

What sorts of food is available?

PurpleDaisies · 29/07/2022 08:52

If there’s no healthy food on the menu, try an have a smaller portion of something you fancy.
