School Summer Holidays

It's the first day of the school summer holidays. At the end of term, there were very few of my work clothes that fit comfortably. I've put on so much weight this academic year.
Anyway, by the time school starts again in September, I aim for there to be a noticeable difference.
I'm going to weigh in today (something I've been avoiding for months) and I'll start calorie counting today.
If I can't manage a decent start by myself, I'll join a local slimming club next week.
Anyone else in a similar situation?
I'll be posting for accountability.

My first weigh in:
Starting weight - 11st 5lb
BMI - 23.5
First goal - get under 11st

My initial plan:
1400kcal per day
Log everything on Nutracheck app
Reduce alcohol intake dramatically
Up exercise levels
Daily weigh-ins

What's your height if that's your BMI? yes I could back calculated but.... And that's a first goal, what's your end goal?

Those calories are quite low given to have that BMI, you must be quite tall.... And what exercise?

extrapineappleonmypizza · 23/07/2022 17:24

I'm 5'9.
My end goal will probably be somewhere between 9st 7lb and 10st.
Exercise - daily dog walk and I'll try to go to the gym/swimming a few times a week.
At the moment, I don't do any structured exercise. I can easily clock up 12,000+ steps when I'm at work... but I'll be off work.

Any strength training?

Yes calories are important but you also need to at least consider if you're getting enough protein as well.

extrapineappleonmypizza · 23/07/2022 20:19

Haven't really considered it - I'll see if I can get a bit of an intro from my OH or someone at the gym.

Protein wise - I eat lean meat, fish and eggs.

I'm doing this! Inset today and I turned down the buffet lunch for my homemade chicken salad.

I'm looking to drop weight by Sept (then carry on after that) but am not starting til the weekend because we are on a uk holiday at the mo.
I will be joining slimming world next week as I have a 12 week free course from my gp cos I'm fat enough to qualify for one!

extrapineappleonmypizza · 26/07/2022 19:48

@DrMadelineMaxwell That's fab!

I've already lost a lot of water weight, and I also got my period. This morning, I was 10st13lb, so that's 6 pounds down already.
I know my BMI isn't high, but my body isn't used to being this weight. I've put on two stone over the past year, which is just mindblowing to me.
I think I might now fluctuate a bit, but my next goal is 10st6lb.
I'm very aware (from everyday life and on Mumsnet) that some people take offence when people who are in the healthy weight zone want to lose a bit of weight, but I don't care.
I don't feel comfortable and my favourite clothes don't fit, so I want to do something about it.

Me too!! I've somehow put on 3 stone this academic year, which is awful. I'm 13 and a half stone (almost 6 foot tall though). I'm horrified with myself. I'm determined to be able to fit into at least some of my winter work clothes when we go back in September!

I've got myself into a nice little routine which seems to be working - have lost half a stone already. Weetsbix for breakfast, egg on toast and salad for lunch, and a protein and veg meal in the evening. Only snacks are fruit or veg or Greek yoghurt.

Good luck!

surreygirl1987 · 27/07/2022 00:03

my body isn't used to being this weight.

Same!! I used to be 9 and a half stone before kids and I am determined to at least get back to 10 and a half.

extrapineappleonmypizza · 27/07/2022 10:17

Hi @surreygirl1987!

Good luck to you too! I don't have a single pair of work trousers that fit me. I've been wearing big, baggy, floaty summer dresses instead. That won't work in September though!
