Meal replacement shakes

Are they a waste of money? Would I be starving? Which ones are filling and taste nice? Can I have 2 a day and then a low calorie dinner?
I need something that requires minimal effort but with quick results to give me a boost in the right direction!
Are the slimming world ones any good?

I have the proteinworks meal replacement shakes, strawberries and cream and also chocolate peanut butter. Both are nice, just over 200 calories. They keep me full for a couple of hours but no more than that.

Shakes can be helpful but only if you are in a calorie deficit overall. I tend to have one if I don't have time to make something or won't have good food options but I prefer high protein meal with plenty of salad or veg for lunch. I had one today on the way out to an event that I knew would be serving burgers and sausages for lunch, for example.

Ultimately they do work if you're in a calorie deficit overall and they can be a convenient option but you still have to be consistent and a bit hungry!

Thank you, I would be interested to try them. Wheres the best place to buy?

i echo the poster above

protein works keeps me full......i like the vanilla creme and strawberry and cream. protein works website but amazon do them also

Luckydog7 · 09/07/2022 19:10

Yes they work, any of them really. Like any diet the weight can go back on very quickly. So plan a maintenance phase long term.

You will likely be hungry for a few days but then will adjust from stomach shrinking. I've been doing my own version using batched homemade soup as I keto normally and this works with that. Sugar is my nemisis. I would recommend you one daily meal be lower in carbs as this will help with the appetite issues too, use some fat to help satiate you. Oily Fish on stirfried veggies, steak with a little buttered spinach etc.

cheeseisthebest · 09/07/2022 19:11

I found them on amazon but canyou buy them ready made? Just wanted a few to try really.

also prempt the constipation by taking some low dose sennacot or similar 😫

cheeseisthebest · 09/07/2022 19:35

Good tip!
So can I buy ready made shakes? All I can see online are powders?

OP posts:
everycowandagain · 09/07/2022 21:42

Powders are easy enough, I either put it in a protein shaker, add water and shake or I whizz it up in the nutribullet.

cheeseisthebest · 09/07/2022 21:45

Yeh I just can't, I've taken the piss out of my husband for months for doing that! 😆and if I don't like it I don't want to have to wasted money on a whole bag of powder.

I have the Huel black edition shakes for breakfast and lunch and so far I really like the taste of them. 400 calories each, then I have a normal dinner. They keep me feeling full and I don't have to think about making something. Not had any bad side effects or sugar cravings either.
My brother lost alot of weight using them but I don't think I really have so I'm slightly disappointed. My weight keeps fluctuating and I've lost about 2kg on average since I started early June.

I've done shake that weight for the past 3 weeks and am 11lbs down which I'm happy with. It's quite easySmile

Which shake is that?

I use meal replacements to help manage a calorie deficit. Not everyday but if I have one it's usually for breakfast, sometimes for lunch too with a normal dinner.

I swing about the various shake companies.

  • Exante (although powder)

  • Slimfast (can get little ready made bottles)

  • Lighterlife (again can get little readymades)

  • Ufit (the chocolate ones are nice and all ready made)

Pop into superdrug or a big supermarket and pick up a couple of single bottles and try them out.

stackhead · 11/07/2022 15:39

Oh and yes, the first time you use them you will be hungry. Try to hold off having one for as long as possible so that there's not too long between each meal.

I usually have a breakfast shake at 8.30/9ish and i'm ready for lunch by 12.

But you get used to it.

How many meals each day are you replacing?

hilbil21 · 11/07/2022 15:46

@cheeseisthebest The company is called Shake That Weight. It's all different things but they do various shakes and they are really nice.

@RaleighDurham I have been having oats at 10am , a shake at 1pm, noodles at 5pm and a chocolate caramel bar at 8pm. That's personal choice though, there are various things you can do and they all have success.

hilbil21 · 11/07/2022 15:47

To add, I've gone from 11.7 to 10.10 - if I weighed more I think I would have lost more (going by the posts from others on their FB page.

CourtneeLuv · 11/07/2022 15:48

I was doing exante. Just given it up. I'd rather workout hard and eat what I want.

I was full on them if sticking to it religiously, once I got past the initial suffering, but it wasn't enough for the exercise I'm doing.
