what ideas does everyone have to make their keto food more interesting?

im investing in my health I have 5 stone to lose, but would also like to stick to keto for all of its benefits including helping my IBS and clearer skin.

what is everyone eating? What food combinations have you come up with?

I used the carb manager app to help calculate the carbs/fibre etc. I did it a few years ago. Lost 10kg, but have regained it and more since! 3mths in- my hair started falling out, which is apparently common with any weight loss- even if gradual. It only lasted a month, and stopped. I didn't have bald patches, it was just that more hair was falling out that normal but from all over the scalp.

Some things I liked:

  • Bake cauliflower instead of boiling or steaming. Its drier and works better as cauli rice. Or just baked florets with a tahini dressing. They can burn easily, so keep an eye on it.
  • beat 2-3 eggs. Pour a very thin layer into a frypan to cook. The egg can be used as a breakfast wrap and fill with a sausage, avocado etc
  • Large lettuce leaves can also be used as a wrap
  • Fake KFC chicken. Replace breadcrumbs with ground almond meal. Mix in paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, italian herbs, pepper and celery salt. Extra salt isn't needed if using celery salt. Dip chicken drumsticks or thighs in the mix once, then drip it a 2nd time- pressing the mixture on slightly. No need to egg or flour. I used to then bake them, but you could also deep fry.
  • I used to make home made coleslaw with a full fat, shop bought mayonnaise. Any combination of the following, depending on what I had in the cupboard, but not too much onion or carrot as higher in carbs. Cabbage (green/purple or both), small amount of onion, 1grated carrot and/or grated celeriac. Finely chopped celery (including the green leaves), radish or even mange tout to give crunch. I'd also add a sprinkling of chopped almonds and/or seeds like sunflower or chopped pumpkin seeds.

Following. Keto is the only diet that works for me but I find it so boring.

Bunchymcbunchface · 20/08/2022 14:10

Same here, only thing that works for me. If I track macros I can lose weight successfully. Then don’t track to maintain.

I find my tastebuds really change once I’m really into it and I’m far happier with simple foods.
next purchase is an air fryer!

Cherryana · 20/08/2022 18:05

Me too Keto has been the most successful but it is so hard.

Can I join you all? I don't know my starting weight and I am not getting on any scales any time soon but I feel so uncomfortable.

Bunchymcbunchface · 20/08/2022 20:12

Course! Jump on in :)
I’ve been keto for over 3 years now. Although every now and then I do fall off the wagon. This is my longest time off it.
got back on it about 3 weeks ago now - none of my clothes fitted me anymore and I felt massive uncomfortable.
so far I’ve dropped 9lbs.

Cherryana · 20/08/2022 20:35

@Bunchymcbunchface that’s brilliant and very encouraging!!

Bunchymcbunchface · 20/08/2022 22:01

thanks!
clothes are fitting much better now. I’ve not got much more to lose, but then I need to maintain.
I find keto does help me stop binge eating. When I’m not keto I’ll just grab anything to eat, then it’s a vicious circle, the more junk I eat the more I want to eat.

LewisLittUp · 21/08/2022 21:49

Can I join please? I have fallen off the wagon, then the wagon reversed over me! From my lightest I am over 3 stone heavier because I have no self control when it comes to sugar and carbs.

I'm trying to do the Keto Fast 800 to kick start things again and heading back to the gym. I also have a wardrobe full of clothes that no longer fit, I feel so uncomfortable and self conscious that everyone is looking at me and thinking "what a shame she gained all that weight back she lost!"

LimboLass · 21/08/2022 21:52

Have you tried cutting out junk/processed food first?

Cherryana · 22/08/2022 20:16

Hello, how is everyone doing?

I am three days in and already I have lost some bloat - so that is good!

What have you eaten today?

Bunchymcbunchface · 23/08/2022 07:17

Well done! Once you get into the swing it gets much easier doesn’t it?

my days mostly consist of a shake for breakfast
lunch is chicken salad and dinner stir fry or a lettuce wrapped burger/blt/chaffle of some description.

Cherryana · 24/08/2022 20:45

That sounds quite similar to me!

What shake do you do?

Bunchymcbunchface · 22/01/2023 08:21

Hi, I either make my own, with almond milk or coconut milk, cream and water
few strawberries or raspberries and Bartley’s sugar free jelly powder.
or peanut butter and some skinny syrup and chia seeds.

or use the puriton ones, but I’m not so keen on the texture of those.

timmothysmith01 · 13/02/2023 14:45

Fish, shellfish, meat, poultry, non-starchy vegetables including bell peppers, broccoli, and zucchini, berries, nuts, eggs, high-fat dairy products, olive oil, other oils, and chocolate with a high cocoa content are all acceptable foods on the ketogenic diet.
