Hi there. I really need to lose 2 stone. I'm going to the gym but I don't eat that healthily. Have signed up for Gousto but just wondering if I should follow a diet. I once lost 3 stone doing slimming world. That was the first time. I started to put it back on so tried again but it didn't work for me. Admittedly I probably didn't try hard enough. Have also done other diets in the past. Just wondering what has worked for people. I also have cysts on my ovaries which make me feel bloated. 5'5" and 13 stone 7. Thank you 😊

Take in less calories than you burn. It’s that simple.

you can do that by fasting which is effectively skipping meals
you can do it by moving more
you can reduce your calorie intake by calorie counting
you can cut whole food groups because that makes it harder to eat lots of calories

but ultimately you need to eat less and move more.
Eating healthily won’t necessarily be enough because healthy food still has calories.

You say you don’t eat healthily now, can you say a bit about what you do eat or how you struggle to eat healthily and maybe people can make suggestions?

do you know how many calories you burn in a day?

Thank you for your reply. I eat pasta and whole grain bread but I eat too much of it. So a typical day would be cereal, snack sometimes fruit- too often crisps, soup and bread for lunch or pasta. Sometimes a shop bought salad. Dinner is usually pasta. I eat too many carbs but they make me feel satisfied. I have tried calorie counting but I lose the will to live. I just need to stick to something I think.

On average about 500. More if I'm at the gym and less if having a quiet day.

you need to know how many calories you burn - it isn’t 500
simply by being alive and sitting on the couch you probably burn more than that. It’s likely to be somewhere between 1200-2200. Try walking and just generally being more active in the day (taking the stairs for example, walking to the corner shop etc)

if you love bread and pasta it’s probably not realistic to cut them. So how about having them in the morning every day and the evening. Weigh out your portion and then bulk your meal up with protein and veg so you’re still full.

soup or salad wouldn’t fill me up for lunch, I would be starving, so then it’s hard not to reach for crisps. Can you switch out to some protein - eggs for example. If you’re home a quick omelette, with some peppers onions mushrooms or whatever veg you like.

calorie counting is really hard if you’re hungry because you’re eating calorie dense but nutritionally poor foods. Or if you’re cutting your calories too much.

Ah I was just going by what my Apple Watch says I burn.

If you go into the fitness app it tells you what you actually burn
the watch only tells you about ‘active’ calories I think
