800 calories for 8 weeks

I’ve been having 800 calories for 11 days now and have lost 8lbs so far. I started off very heavy at 15 stone 5. The reason the calories are so low is because I’m going to a wedding in august and want to lose as much weight as possible in the next 8 weeks. Once the 8 weeks is over I was thinking about the 5:2 diet. I feel ok, but I’m wondering if I’m damaging my body, or I will end up doing because the calories are so low. But because it’s only for 8 weeks it’ll be ok? Has anybody done this and been ok?

Hi well done on your loss, I did a 800 calorie diet it was called exante which is shakes/ bars and one meal. It worked for me, but unsustainable, only thing I would say is I felt fab as there were vitamins etc in the shakes. And was drinking a lot of water. Take a supplement to help you and as its short term you should be ok.

allinadaystwerk · 23/06/2022 07:30

Make sure you get your essential vitamins and minerals or you could end up feeling quite ill.

RooRem2 · 23/06/2022 07:31

@par05 thank you! I’m finding it quite easy and have more energy than ever. What supplement would you recommend?

You can't sustain 800 calories. Low carb would give similar results and is sustainable.

I lost 2 stone doing this. I made sure I had plenty of protein to avoid losing muscle mass. I try to eat 1g protein per 1 kilo of my weight.

SwissMaid · 23/06/2022 07:37

Re supplements, I take calcium, vit d,iron and b vitamins.

RooRem2 · 23/06/2022 07:43

@SwissMaid well done on the weight loss! And thank you regarding the supplements.

It might be safer for you to do 5:2 and eat a bit more for 2 or 3 days of the week to keep your energy levels up.. would probably boost your weight loss as well by preventing your metabolism from slowing down too much. Doing it this way helps me with cravings as I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything!

Can I ask what a typical day of eating looks like at 800 cals? I imagine it takes some planning to maximise. I'm curious as I'm doing 1500 a day and find that takes work! Smile

diamondpony80 · 23/06/2022 07:57

Is it the 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet? That's 800 calories a day for 8 weeks. It's fine. I know loads of people who have done it and most lose about 2 stone. Like any diet though, if you go back to old eating habits you'll put the weight back on just as quickly.

I did Exante for a while as well but couldn't get on with it. It works of course, but I need real food. Just couldn't stick to artificially sweetened meal replacements.

JohannSebastianBach · 23/06/2022 08:04

I did this a while ago, the fast 800. So it was the Dr Moseley version.

It's not meant to be done long term but gives great results in a short time and if it suits you great!

It got my blood sugar back to normal levels and I lost 1.5 stone.

The other benefit for me was that I felt it reset my attitude to food.

I have kept off what I lost and my eating habits have not slipped back into what they were before. I'm satisfied with less particularly carbs (I eat them but in smaller portions) and it just changed my mindset. I think about what I eat more carefully now which for me is progress.

5:2 I also find v good.

Short term I don't think you are harming yourself if you are otherwise healthy and feel OK doing it. But it's not for everyone and you shouldn't do it for longer.

RooRem2 · 23/06/2022 08:10

@JohannSebastianBach Well done on the weight loss! It’s great you’ve maintained too! If I lose 1.5/2 stones when the 8 weeks is up I still won’t be at my target weight which is 10 stone to take me into a healthy bmi, so would the 5:2 work? And if so, would I have to do it forever? I’m not very clued up on it all🙈

Or once I’m at my target weight with 5:2, work out how many calories I’d need to maintain?

Thanks! If you do 5:2 to lose weight then you still need to eat sensibly on the 5 days and you should lose. Just will be a bit slower than the 800.

I do 5:2 for maintenance now. I do the 2 days on plan and then I eat as I wish the other 5. However, my habits have definitely changed so it's not 5 days as I used to eat.

I don't mind the 2 days because if I really want to eat something I know I can the next day. Then I usually forget anyway!

So interested in this diet! Do you make ur own diet up of 800 calories? Would love to try this!

SwissMaid · 23/06/2022 08:49

Fast 800 encourages you to eat more mindfully, in my experience. And no, it does not slow your metabolism.

I focus on enough protein, and then loads of vegetables and a small amount of fruit. Water, black decaf coffee to drink. Protein leaves you feeling satisfied for longer. Veg fills you up.

TomAllenWife · 23/06/2022 09:04

I try and do anything between 800-1200 per day
And fast for 14-16 hours

Protein yoghurt about 10.30am
Big salad with chicken/fish/eggs for lunch
Chicken or fish with veg & maybe brown rice

Only eat between 10.30-6.30pm
