Salad only 🥗

I have a lot of weight to lose (size 18) Not sure how I’ve got here but 3 babies in 5 years and lots of carbs certainly have not helped. I was a size 10 only 4years ago.

I love salad, absolutely adore it. If I was to eat only salad (with a protein, probably a small amount of cheese as I’m veggie.) every day for a month, how much weight can I expect to lose?

A lot very quickly until you began eating normally again after which you would most likely put most of not all of it back on.

It’s really not a healthy or sustainable diet to exclusively eat salad (at least the one you have described) then I’d say it would work out badly in the long run.

I tried something similar, lasted three days and binged on a Chinese.

What you are better off doing is adding lots of salad and veg to your normal diet so half the plate is veggies for all meals (like Slimming World but without all the other mad rules). Just salad for every meal will make you hate salad pretty quickly!

Titsywoo · 17/06/2022 15:48

Hard to say how much you will lost though. Depends on too many factors!

NoGoodUsernamee · 17/06/2022 15:50

Really @Bootothegoose why would you put it all back on if you didn’t go over your daily calories even if you weren’t eating exclusive salad after x amount of time?

I’m not trying to be extreme in anyway, I just genuinely like salad and having 3 young children time is not on my side for lots of prepping or cooking. I think two hearty salads a day with fats (feta cheese, avocado.) would satisfy me. Maybe? With lots of water.

We went to a theme park yesterday and I was so bloody miserable all day because I felt so uncomfortable in myself.

You'd be much better to eat a varied diet.

Cut out processed foods and carbs. Then it doesn't need to be just salad but they can feature heavily.

Really the best thing is to cut out processed foods, and only eat twice a day, no snacks in between. (Including no milk in tea/coffee and no calories in drinks not a meal times etc.)

I went from a size 20 to a size 10 in 7 months doing that.

Had lunch at 1pm. Dinner at 6pm. Only water or black tea/coffee at other times.

Meals I had a lot of Fast 800 recipes as they're great for high protein/low carb.

@Titsywoo problem Is I am a vegetarian and my normal meals currently consist of a lot of carbs and cheese. I’m not sure what to have with salad/veg which is healthy tbh? I would love to be able to eat fish now for health reasons, but years of being veggie has given me aversions.

Wow @JuneyJune theyre fantastic results. Could you give me an idea of a normal day for you? Food/drink wise. Need some Inspo!! Did you exercise?

I have never been this big and I am determined not to let it keep creeping up, I have to do something now.

@JuneyJune do you still eat like that now to maintain? I’m looking ahead to when I’m in that phase and obviously just want to lose weight and move on with my life, not have to lose weight again in a year.

I did 16:8 before and found it soooo easy but need to get in the zone again (also didn’t lose any weight with it but felt better).

JuneyJune · 17/06/2022 21:48

Yes I did Joe Wicks or Yoga with Adrienne a few days a week. Need to get back into it.

Lost the weight over a year ago now. Have regained half a stone which I need to get back off. But compared to past weight losses that's nothing - any other 'diet' I've always gained it all back and more within a few months.

I eat what I want now (hence the half stone) but most days do stick to the 1pm and 6pm.

JustAnotherViper · 17/07/2022 18:43

I think it would be fine. There’s loads of fantastic salads. I think some of the posters are imagining you sat down to iceberg, tomatoes and cucumber for every meal.

And if you do get bored you can try something else. Maybe soups for one meal once it gets cold again?

Do you eat pulses? Chickpea salad is on my meal plan for this week.

HardRockOwl · 18/07/2022 10:52

Yes depends what you mean by salad. They're all I eat really! Quinoa, feta, avocado, bean salad, roasted veg, chickpeas, quorn, tofu, leaves etc etc

Probably not the lettuce and tomato that some posters may be conjuring up

I'm following the Glucose Revolution (I've started a thread on here about it) and one of the "hacks" is to eat veg as a starter before your meal to lower your glucose spike. You could try that? A bowl of salad before you eat your meals.
