Has anyone lost 10-14 lbs within the healthy bmi range in 6-8 weeks? How?

Just that really.

I'm right at the top end of healthy/borderline overweight of bmi. I'm aiming to lose ideally a stone by end July. Not sure how do-able that is or which method would be best. Would love to hear people's stories who have had success with a similar goal, and how they did it!

Generally I do low carb-ish as needed and not afraid of a bit of sweat to keep my weight under control. However bread and booze are my weakness hence I need to take some more deliberate action!

It is very doable.
Both bread and booze are calorific though.
bread is pretty much 100 calories a slice, a tiny bit of French stick is 100 cals.

I started logging on My Fitness Pal and kept to around 1,400 calories a day. I used to drink wine, I know Pinot Grigio was over 550 calories a bottle, so drinking that over a couple of nights pushed the weekly calorie total up massively.

once you start logging it can help you make better choices as you can choose whether to have that 300 calories of biscuits -which could leave you wanting more-or 300 calories of lean protein which will leave you full and stop you snacking on anything else!

Just cut out all junk food does it for me. Alternatively if you are happy to cut carbs, the fast 800 is a good one too.

these are the kind of switches I mean, this guy has lots of informative vids and slates WW & SW.

the fitness chef doesn’t like 800 cals 😂

You sound exactly like me! Literally one kilo heavier and I would be officially overweight. I hover right on that line and would desperately love to just lose 5 kilos (is that about 10 pounds?) but it won’t happen without serious restrictions of wine and carbs.

my concern is that even if I did knuckle down and lose 5 kilos, I’d probably just put it back on over the following year.

sigh.

Counting calories on MFP is great but I get so busy and don’t have time and it goes tits up. Maybe when the DCs leave home …

CatInAShoebox · 30/05/2022 17:10

I lost 10lb in 6 weeks. Normal weight (like you, at the top of normal on the bmi chart). I kept breakfast and lunch to around 300 calories each and ate whatever the rest of the family was having for dinner (didn't log calories for that but tried to be sensible-ish). No wine, barely any bread. So very doable, I'd say.

CatInAShoebox · 30/05/2022 17:11

(Unfortunately I did then put it back on- currently trying to reverse that!)

Borrowmydoggy · 30/05/2022 17:59

Wow thanks so much everyone!
How do you manage calorie counting eating out? This was often my downfall when calorie counting on the past as I underestimate and why I tend to prefer diets that limit food types so you don't have to worry about it...

All menus now have to list calories by law. But really is it hard to forego eating out for a few weeks?

Shmithecat2 · 30/05/2022 19:33

Very doable. I did it with 1200 cals a day (strict for 5 days a week, a little less for 2), avoided bread and potatoes, little alcohol and I logged every single thing that passed my lips on MFP, liquid or solid. If you have the discipline, it can be done.

BigYellowElephant · 30/05/2022 19:43

5:2 diet and cut out the wine or at least limit it to one bottle a week max

Cillmantain · 30/05/2022 20:10

I lost a 5kgs in 2 weeks doing fast 800.I had an event and needed to fit into a dress I already had.
No cards Headache for 2 days.
Completely doable.

WhiteDoorBlue · 30/05/2022 20:14

Following for inspo. I hovver at that point myself and really struggle to get that last 10lb off. I do 16:8 5 days per week which at least stops me getting bigger. I really love carbs tho, probably that.

Startuplife · 30/05/2022 20:16

I’ve literally just done this and am now 132lbs so don’t have loads to lose. I stick to 1200 calories 5/6 days a week and am meticulous in my planning of my meals. I can still have treats but will have for example a 47 calorie mini twister rather than a magnum. Once you get used to weighing everything it’s very easy.
I tend to do 4-5 gym classes a week but never eat back these calories. This means that on the weekend I can have a day or two where I eat out (but don’t go crazy) and don’t need to count as I’ve got those exercise calories in the bank.

Ive been losing on average 2 lbs a week.

Startuplife · 30/05/2022 20:17

Also if you do eat out, check the calories online in advance as you might be surprised. In Carluccios they have salads that are higher in calories than a bowl of pasta.

TwinklingFairyLights · 30/05/2022 20:25

I'm the same OP. I'm 11 stone which is a BMI of 25 (and I carry it on my stomach). I'd love to shift a stone too.

I'm considering a no booze June if anyone wants to join me? Just have to be careful not to snack instead of drinking wine 😂

TwinklingFairyLights · 30/05/2022 20:26

I'm also thinking of intermittent fasting. Which is basically skipping breakfast.

HelpIneedsomebodywontyouplease · 30/05/2022 20:28

I tend to prefer diets that limit food types so you don't have to worry about it
but, presumably, that hasn’t been sustainable if you are now asking the best way to lose weight? Honestly, the way I’ve stained my 3+stone weight loss is by initially calorie counting, and educating myself, about the value of what I eat. It’s been an eye opener logging my food on MFP, incredible where there are hidden calories but now I can make smarter choices.

comfortablyfrumpy · 30/05/2022 20:34

I have shifted a stone in 6 weeks by low carbing. I have basically stopped eating sugary stuff, potatoes, bread and pasta. I don't calorie count and I make sure I eat plenty of protein. I cook from scratch and eat tons of veggies so no processed rubbish. Have a look at the Low Carb boot camp threads on here if you want to look further.

I have found it dead easy.
BUT I was in the overweight bracket.

LongLive89 · 30/05/2022 21:08

10lbs in 5 weeks nearly 2 years ago and it’s still stayed off.

Went from 9st 10 to 9st (22ish BMI to 19) by logging on MFP 6 days out of 7. I ate all the food groups but stuck to my calories.

I am a volume eater so I need loads of low calorie food - huge salads etc are and were my friend. I do miss a good meal deal even now though but when I look back, the amount of processed over sugared food I was eating was disgraceful.

onlywork55 · 30/05/2022 23:00

I lost 10lbs in 2 months so not far off! I didn’t do anything complicated. All I did was:

  • Stayed below 1400 calories every day, and ideally 1200 when I could
  • Walked 10,000 steps most days
  • Did those 10 minute YouTube videos for toning arms etc, maybe 4-5 times per week
  • Got into the habit of drinking fruit tea every time I wanted to snack

I find this a challenge too. I found it easier to just order whatever I wanted even if it was calorific, but to only have one course. I would also try and moderate my calories throughout the rest of the day so I had more to “spend” in the evening.

I also tried not to drink my calories so didn’t have loads of wine/cappuccinos/lattes etc.

But it doesn’t matter how many times I tell myself I’m going to order the salad…I never do 😁

WinterCarlisle · 30/05/2022 23:14

@onlywork55 do you have any links to the YouTube videos, please? Or recommendations for ones you’ve found good? Thanks!

MegBusset · 30/05/2022 23:47

Yes, I've lost 10lb since mid April and gone from BMI 24.8 to 22.9.

Calories in, calories out - boring but effective. 1200/day for the first month, now I'm on 1450/day which seems like a feast 😆

I don't drink alcohol - zero-calorie drinks only as I prefer to eat my calories. Walk at least 12500 steps a day, rain or shine. No other exercise.

jackstini · 30/05/2022 23:53

I shifted a stone in 4 weeks doing 16:8

You only eat within an 8 hour time period - I usually do 10-6 or 12-8

Took me 2 days to get used to it then felt ok
