How to exercise with a 3 year old in tow?

I have put on just over 1 stone since last year, my job is very very inactive, ie you do not leave your desk except at break times. Usually this would not be a problem and I used to pound the streets pushing ds in buggy, I can walk at a good pace for miles which I enjoyed and therefore my weight was never an issue.
Now ds has just turned 3 and has not for a long time been using his buggy, hence the gradual weight gain.
I don't drive and don't want to take him on any longish walk in case he gets too tierd and needs carried (he is a big boy!)
I need options, I really don't like gyms etc and would never stick to something like that, so do you have any ideas for me?
Am I being a pansy about ds and should just drag him along anyway?

Swimming is brilliant, you'll loose weight just messing about in the water with him. Take a ball to chuck about and run after.

Never thought of swimming cornsilk, thanks.

Anything else on a more day to day basis would be great, would only be able to get to swimming once a week max.

Play football in the park with him and do most of the running about yourself!

Thanks, my mind was stuck on the walking.
Good ideas.

bring the buggy on a long (buggy-friendly) walk then if he gets tired pop him in?

Also, I've just started aqua aerobics in the evening after my boys are in bed. Find it makes me work much harder than if I was just pootling up and down the pool on my own.

Cycle with the 3yo in a child seat, I find that far easier than trying to walk at any reasonable sort of pace or shivering in a toddler pool with them. And they generally like going on bikes.

you can't do any serious exercise with a 3 year old stopping to look at every leaf, ant etc. can you go out running in the evening? i got a cross trainer from ebay which is great for evening exercise when dd is in bed.

Join local leisure centre with creche facility and use it! DS2 has been regularly using our local creche and is used to it - gets lots of attention and I get an hour to go and do a class. I'm better for it and he gets to play in a friendly, safe environment.

I go to a soft play area that is near us that has really huge adult size slides ect and we play in that for hours it works you more than the gym
