I’m starting my Saxenda journey today! Anybody else on Saxenda with tips or success stories? I have about 10 stone to loose so a long way to go.

Hi all

Back after hols! I didn't take Saxenda with me and have had a gain of 3lbs (13.5) but I'm ok with that as I know that it will come back off Smile

Cantonet · 29/07/2022 13:14

I've just taken my first dose.
The needle is so tiny I didn't even feel it.
I do feel a little headachey & agitated but I'm not sure whether that's nerves or side effects.

amarante · 30/07/2022 08:01

Hi - can I ask if I could take one month only to help me loose 1 stone?

pokerdone · 30/07/2022 09:05

@amarante it all depends on your current weight and how you control your diet. Saxenda is a tool to help suppress your appetite not a miracle cure Smile.

I started at 13.7lbs and in the first two weeks lost 5/6lbs. I counted my calories and was having around 1000 a day. Saxenda definitely helped me decrease my food intake.

Moderatelyobese · 30/07/2022 09:48

Can I join in? I’ve just taken my first dose and am full of trepidation about side effects but also quite excited…

Thank you. I weight 60kilos. I find it difficult to lose weight....

pokerdone · 30/07/2022 11:03

So you're only 9st4? I should think you are too small for Saxenda! What's your BMI?

drinkallthecoffee · 30/07/2022 11:07

I'm surprised you've been prescribed saxenda at only 60kilos?

amarante · 30/07/2022 11:07

Yes I might- bmi is 23

pokerdone · 30/07/2022 11:39

@amarante then you definitely don't need to lose weight! Is there a reason you want to lose a stone? I'm only asking gently as it seems a little strange to me.

Cantonet · 30/07/2022 12:34

Please do @moderatelyobese.
I'm on day 2 and definitely have more energy to exercise. I'm not too sure about the appetite suppression, but I can confirm that food stays in your stomach for a lot longer. I felt a bit sick just before bedtime, but didn't have any other obvious side effects. I'm also logging all my food & exercise on My Fitness Pal to incentivize my healthy eating. Or so I hope!

willow234 · 30/07/2022 16:52

Hi all, have enjoyed reading through the thread and seeing everyone's progress! Fantastic stuff! hoping I can pick your brains if you don't mind. I currently have a throat infection but picked up my saxenda prescription today. The side effects say hoarseness and throat related stuff etc so I'm thinking I should wait until I'm better to know whether I have this as a side effect or not? What would you do?

I'm also apprehensive about side effects as am away from home alot for work esp 💩 . Those who had side effects, how quickly do they come on? Wondering if I took it at night it would be best for minimising them? Looking forward to getting started!

Nowisthesummerofourdiscontent · 30/07/2022 22:29

Hi @willow234 , no time like the present! Just start at 0.6 and don’t rush to increase the dose if it’s working. From what I see a minority of people suffer side effects from low dosage. I also work away but it hasn’t affected my routine. Well apart from the bowels but nothing that can’t be dealt with quickly. I take it around 8am, fwiw. No breakfast, light lunch and normal evening meal.

1 month in and one stone off…

DorothyBinns · 31/07/2022 10:53

I’ve just finished my first month on Saxenda and have been lurking on this thread, so I thought I’d pop my head up and say hello.

Its worked too well, if anything. I started on 13 stone 1 and this morning I’m 11.11. Only, my body fat hasn’t changed at all according to my scales, nobody has really noticed any change in me and my clothes aren’t much different, which suggests I’ve lost muscle, not fat. I’d love to start doing some exercise but I feel completely wiped out and exhausted, partly due to covid last week but also because I’m just not getting enough energy from food.

Ive gone back down to 1.2 on the pen today in the hope that I can eat some of the Sunday lunch I’ve got booked in a pub later!

Cantonet · 31/07/2022 10:58

Day 3 here & I've lost just over a kg.
I guess that will be water weight due to less carbs.
I felt ill yesterday evening after having a glass of wine while cooking dinner, due to low blood sugar I think, so wine on an empty stomach is not a good idea. I'm having low carbs for breakfast/lunch ( only a piece of fruit) & a smaller dinner as I feel full after a smaller portion & food really doesn't taste good ! It's just like having Covid again.
Incidentally my Plantar fascitis is much better over the last two days. There's a link I think between insulin resistance & Plantar Fascitis which I need to investigate.

Cantonet · 31/07/2022 10:59

Well done @nowisthesummerorourdiscontent.

pokerdone · 01/08/2022 08:36

LESSON LEARNT...!

I ate far too much yesterday (Sunday lunch and a Chinese) plus a load of wine. Normally, I feel full and stop but I think the alcohol played a part!

A few hours later I was massively sick and had diarrhoea. Sweat pouring off me. Just awful.

Back to very careful eating and some more losses.

Moderatelyobese · 01/08/2022 20:42

How often are you all weighing yourselves?

Nowisthesummerofourdiscontent · 01/08/2022 22:19

Once a week at the most. I don’t have any scales and it would tempt me to weigh more than that. I’m enjoying the non scale victories - no red marks on my belly after wearing jeans, bending down easily and today standing on one leg whilst touching my foot! I think it’ll be a while before I can hold onto it, though…🙂

AgathaMystery · 02/08/2022 16:01

Hi all… I am considering saxenda… I’m 5’2 & 15 stones. I suppose I’m just looking for someone to tell me it’s doable. That it can work. Also where the best place to buy it is. I’m overwhelmed by the choice TBH. I need pens and needles.

KrankySchwester · 02/08/2022 16:15

Hi @AgathaMystery so last Monday I was in exactly your shoes (same height, same weight!). I’m just over 1 week in and I’ve lost 10lb. The side effects can be horrid - tiredness, diarrhoea & for some, vomiting - but they pass.

I can’t tell you the best place to order, but you will also need a sharps bin.

Good luck!!

pokerdone · 02/08/2022 16:52

@AgathaMystery the only side affects I've had is when I've eaten too much! Otherwise it's been fine. I just feel full up. I ordered mine from boots online.

AgathaMystery · 02/08/2022 19:04

@KrankySchwester & @pokerdone thanks so much… I had my over 40 HbA1c and cholesterol done 3 weeks ago & get the results tomorrow. I am quite nervous.

To top it all off… I am a diabetes specialist who regularly prescribes the fast 800 for women. Seems I can’t practice what I preach. I know a lot about being fat and diabetes - the nutritional aspects and how to create a perfectly balanced diet - and how to reverse it. Ha. The irony.

incidentally I’ve sharps bins coming out my ears.

whatever1980 · 03/08/2022 08:36

What do people mean by "clicks" please?

So if you set pen to 1.2 don't you just press button once until Saxenda dose all been injected?

pokerdone · 03/08/2022 09:48

It's the clicks from turning the dose. So as you set the dose you can do a in between one if you want, so for example, turn to 0.6 and then as many clicks as you want up to next dose level at 1.2.
