Fitbit or Smart Hoola Hoop

Annoyed at myself for putting some weight back on I had lost . Time to attack with exercise. Which would be better for weight loss for someone who is currently quite unfit - a Fitbit (I tend to walk a lot anyway but thought challenges might help?) or one of those Smart Hoola Hoops that keeps popping up on my Instagram feed? It has links and you clip it around your waist and it has a weighted ball on it. Thanks for any advice!

I’m not sure how much of a gadget the hula hoop would be. How likely is it to be used a few times and forgotten about? I love my Fitbit, it’s always worn and I find it worth the money. It also works with My Fitness Pal and I weigh daily on my Fitbit scales and the app logs that going back years.

If you have a Tesco clubcard and some points then they are a reward partner and you get the 3 times the value.

which Fitbit do you have?

Dashel · 12/05/2022 19:07

I have a charge 5 and had one before that but can’t recall which one

Yes, I think you are right about the gimmicky nature of the hoop. I have to admit it would probably end up in a cupboard! I used to have a Fitbit Alta (some time ago) until it stopped working. What is the best one to get these days? I am not a runner, so will mainly use it for tracking steps/walking challenges etc.

I went for the charge 5 because the screen is the right size for me and it’s slightly thinner. The watch ones are bigger than I would like and some of the others have smaller or duller text. This one is easiest for me to read.

I think it has more tech than I need/want, so I’m probably not the best person to advise which one to get. I imagine the cheapest would do, but if you want the product to be used in years to come, get one that you like and think are most likely to wear daily
