New You Plan - VLCD Weight Loss Support

pinkpapaya · 23/04/2022 15:59

Hi, I have just ordered a 6 week Spring transformation box. I desperately need to do something about my weight. I am the heaviest that I have ever been and it is making me feel older, depressed and is affecting my life. I current weigh 15' 12. I have NEVER been this overweight but had a lot of stress these last 6 months and am just not in the right mindset to jolly myself along or kick myself up the bum. I need to sort it out because I have high blood pressure. I am due to make a start on May 2nd. Looking for support along the way, advice from those on the plan or who have done it and if anyone else is a new starter, to share the journey 😊

It is the end of my first week and my first official weigh in. I have been ill in bed with Covid all week and so not moving around as much as usual BUT I am an incredible NINE pounds down!!!

Start weight 15' 12 Today's weight 15' 3

I am thrilled! It would have taken me 3-4 weeks of WW to achieve that!

My observations on this plan are

  1. You have to stick to it and commit.
  2. You won't feel hungry past day 2 or 3
  3. You must be close to a loo for the first week because 4 litres of water a day is a LOT!
  4. Mix the meals up so you don't get bored
  5. Dried herbs, spices and the small amount of fresh herbs you are allowed are excellent for jazzing the meals up
  6. The Facebook group is great for advice and support - if you have a question, the ladies and gents there will answer and advise quickly
  7. I bought a 'bundle' - these are cheaper than buying individually
  8. Look out for codes to save money
The shakes are all delicious and the soups though not too keen on the leek soup. The meal replacement bars are what you would expect but are palatable - my fave is the coconut bar. Some of the meals have an 'interesting' texture at first but your palate soon adapts - this is where the herbs and spices come in.

Some of the meals I haven't enjoyed are the most popular - the spicy noodle nosh particularly but it isn't awful so I will use the packs I have. My favourite is the carbonara. The most filling meals that are a bit more substantial are the Cottage pie, the Mexican tacos and the Carbonara meals.

The crisps (tortilla) are great - really tasty and high protein (around 11g) a bag so they are good of you are feeling a bit hungry or to bulk out a meal.

I mostly do a shake around lunchtime, a soup and bag of the crisps, and either a meal and a bar or if really hungry, two meals.

As long as you have 4 packs a days if under 17 stones and 5 per day if over that weight, you are good to go.

Finally, I love the simplicity. 4 packs of the products and 4 litres of water and you are good to go.

I like that I don't have to think about food all the time especially as snacking and binging have been my downfall. I am not taking in anywhere near as much sugar and fat as I was previously.

I LOVE that I can still drink tea on this plan as many VLCD/Keto type diets don't allow you milk. You can have up to 250mls skimmed milk a day for tea/coffee though this doesn't count as fluid intake because of the milk. My caffeine consumption is down too from around 10 cups a day to 3 or 4!

I haven't measured myself yet but I can see where my waist is indenting again and my tummy has definitely reduced. On to week 2....!

Well done @pinkpapaya!
I'm transitioning on to a VLCD at the moment (Slim and Save - I've done it before).

pinkpapaya · 10/05/2022 15:43

Thank you@Courante so much. It has been much easier than I anticipated. Good luck on your plan x

You're doing great @pinkpapaya. I'm just starting Exante VLCD this week. I'm starting at 13st 1lbs and I'm on day two. It's been easier than I expected but feels hard in the evenings. I'm ready to go to bed now, I feel so tired. I really hope this passes and I have more energy. I'm aiming to get to 10st by September, in time for my wedding anniversary. I would probably be better at 9st (I'm only 5'1") but I've never been under 10st in my adult life. So I'm being sensible for the time being.

I'm happy to come on here and chat. Could definitely do with the accountability and some company for the hard moments.

pinkpapaya · 11/05/2022 12:47

@Mrsteapot42 hi and well done! I haven't felt physically hungry at all but my monkey mind really comes alive in the evenings too! It is the most difficult part of the day for me too. I have taken to having one of the meals before 7pm and then waiting a bit until it really kicks in then having one of the sweeter tasting shakes like caramel or strawberry. This then feels like a pudding almost and fulfils the NYP 4 packs a day requirement. It seems to be working. I can go all morning and into late afternoon with no bother but later...😈😈😈 Well done to you too lovely. We have taken the hardest step of making the choice to do something about it. Not sure how the Exante plan works but happy to chat x

How are you getting along @Courante ?

OP posts:
Mrsteapot42 · 11/05/2022 18:31

Exante is pretty much the same, 4 products a day and a shit load of water. I'm drinking soooo much water. But it does actually help with hunger etc.

Day times feel really easy. I actually had lots of energy today and I'm busy with work. I just feel like I hit an energy slump at 6pm. I'm wondering if a quick walk in the evening might help.

pinkpapaya · 12/05/2022 01:19

NYP tells you no extra exertion for the first two weeks but should be fine to walk/go to gym after that. I am peeing for England at the moment 😳💦💦💦💦

Sorry @pinkpapaya - only just spotted your question!

Answer not as positive as I would've liked...nearly on Wed/Thu but didn't take the leap. Ended up celebrating something on Friday and that slowly unravelled my attempts. I did lose weight this week but definitely way off being on a VLCD. Trying to muster the enthusiasm to make a better go of it today... if I can't then I'm going to accept a slower approach and get all salad, fruit and veg back in the house! I would very much like to do this for 6-8 weeks or so and 'get the worst off'.

How about you?

pinkpapaya · 20/05/2022 10:18

1 stone and 1 pound off in under 3 weeks! I did slow down a little this week so weight loss not as fast as I blipped on NYP products but proud that I didn't cave to chocolates and cakes or come off plan. It would have taken me 4 or 5 weeks to achieve this normally.

Hi @yearofthefat , I am going to do the 12 weeks I think. I just ordered more products. Now 1 stone 3 pounds down. Had a couple of unavoidable blips due mainly my poor planning which resulted in a 2 pound gain one week. I am not keen on the meals apart from the pasta dishes, porridge, eggs and pancakes. The crisps are amazing! I am just plodding on and not thinking about it too much. I am starting to see some shape returning and my tummy has definitely gone down which I am so happy about. I was bursting out of my jeans and now I can do them up, straight off the washing line with no huffing and puffing to do the button up! I wish I had found this years ago. Congratulations on your fab loss! 4.6kg is amazing! 🎉🎉🎉

Hi all, how are you getting on? Started slim & save last week (I’ve done Cambridge & exante in past) to shift a stone or two before holidaying with skinny friends at end of July. I’ve lost about 5lbs so far. I’m in full on ketosis with cotton wool mouth. Feel much better already, the water really helps you feel brighter doesn’t it?

Need to find a sustainable way of eating longer term, but needed this blitz to start. DH is doing 16:8 and 1,200 calories so it’s good to diet together keep us both on track.

pinkpapaya · 23/06/2022 08:52

Hi all, I have been on a STS for about 3 weeks mainly due to stress eating (though products and M&S prawns not regular eating) and too many products (chocolate peanut meal bars!!!) - had a bit of a stressful patch this month but back on it and the scales are moving again...4 down this week! 21 pounds down since May 3rd!

pinkpapaya · 23/06/2022 08:55

Hi @Katkincake well done for getting started! That keto mouth isn't nice but if you drink more water and get yourself some Peppersmith's mints from Amazon or Holland and Barrett, they will help without knocking you out of ketosis plus the xylitol is excellent for the teeth! Haven't heard of slim and save - can you tell me a bit more please? Xx

@yearofthefat how are you getting on lovely?

OP posts:
Katkincake · 23/06/2022 09:03

Thanks for the tips on mints @pinkpapaya , you’re right water is key. I’m doing Ok.

I weigh daily to keep me focused and was stagnant at beginning of week, but knock on from not drinking enough water on weekend.

I blipped last night as stopping in a hotel for work. Bought a prawn salad, a small bottle of wine and a raspberry jelly from M&S nearby. At least I chose healthier than pre diet where nuts and choc pudding would have been purchased.

Back on this morning despite free breakfast on offer. Bought a small hand blender with me to mix a shake😂

Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know I hit target! 3 and a half stones off since early May! I am thrilled! Now doing NYP Switch for maintainance. I have put 25 sachets of savoury meals/soups on ebay for £1 each if anyone is interested. I use shakes only now and a low carb meal at night now so won't use the sachets. They are all well in date, unopened etc. How is everyone doing?
