Has anyone changed their diet massively to support an under active thyroid? I’ve read low carb or cutting out gluten can be effective in reducing fatigue and exhaustion. There seems to be no definite medical advice however so interested i peoples personal experiences

Why would you need to alter your diet? Simply take the thyroxine tablets prescribed by your GP to restore your thyroid levels to normal.

It’s not quite as easy as that @Babdoc. My levels are ‘normal’ but I still have low energy and struggle to lose weight on a standard calorie deficit.

I've got hashimotos disease and usually really struggle to lose weight. I've totally cut out gluten, alcohol and caffeine and am eating 1200 calories a day of minimally processed food and tracking it on an app and have lost a stone and a half since January.

It's the first time in ages that the weight has come off.

That’s really interesting @ofwarren! We’re you advised to give up those three things in particular or was it a process if elimination?

My alcohol intake is fairly low and I don’t think one struggle with gluten. Caffeine on the other hand 🤔

I got diagnosed with chronic gastritis at Christmas so I followed a diet plan that was to heal my stomach. It is much better now and even my IBS has improved. I'm no longer bloated and the fat I was carrying on my upper tummy has reduced which means I get less avid reflux too.

Win win

I found thyroxine made me feel worse, lost no weight even after no carb diet. I'm unfortunately paying for Thyroid-S privately now, and I've lost 2.5 stone while on it, have normal energy 90% of the time and no life altering symptoms anymore

Does that contain T3?
