Hypnotherapy- any experience?

I had an unexpected bonus at work so have booked myself an introductory hypnotherapy session tomorrow to see if a course would tweak my brain into being able to control myself around food.
I know what to do and how to do it but its the actuall DOING it im struggling with. The mindset.
I'm overweight but not massively so (5'10, size 14/16), active (run, swim, dogwalking) but I feel like I need to get myself in order finally as I've been overweight my whole adult life (I am 51).
Anyone got any experience or have any tips?

Yes, but unfortunately it isn't particularly positive. I had ten sessions with a hypnotherapist - the main goal being weight loss. Whilst it was very relaxing initially I actually gained weight over those ten weeks and ended up feeling a bit uneasy about the hypnotherapist (who herself was overweight). It didn't seemed geared at all towards weight loss.

I wouldn't rule out trying again though with a different hypnotherapist. I think like a counsellor if it doesn't feel right then change therapist.
