Accuracy of Eufy scales body fat % - help!

Love my Eufy scales and no issues with the general accuracy of them when it comes to weight, but was extremely surprised to see a body fat measurement of 27%, which feels high given my stats (5ft4, 8st4, small waist, certainly don't look particularly "big"). I've found a couple of online reviews saying the body fat measurement isn't right but I can't tell if that was a fault specific to the machine or whether it's across the board and everyone has the same experience.

If anyone has any experience or knowledge of the Eufy accuracy I'd love to hear it. Hoping it's not just wishful thinking as I can't understand how I would be able to get my body fat % much lower without verging into potentially underweight category

I've Tanita scales. BMI is 18.7 and it has my fat percentage at 23/24%. So I can see why yours would be 27. I'm size 8 @ 5ft 7. I've some muscle definition, and you can see abdominal line definition at the sides. However my body still looks soft and not particularly boney. I run 10K most days, walk 5k and do resistance exercises and weights a few times a week.

It's a small bone frame I think. Small dress size even if carrying a bit of body fat. It's why there is a lower end on the range of healthy BMI.🤷‍♀️

BMI and weight doesn't distinguish between lean and fat mass. One can have a low BMI and not so low body fat%.

Body fat is just a number and if you like how you feel and look, it doesn't matter.
This calculator is quite accurate to measure body fat %. It is from the US Navy and was proven correct. www.calculator.net/body-fat-calculator.html

@Cormoran, interesting I always came out lower on that one but I suppose it really depends on how small your waist is. Mine has a tendency to be quite defined, I'm an hourglass. The fat accumulates on my lower belly. Also how tight do you pull the tape measure?GrinWink

I think a small bone frame can mean you carry a fair bit of fat without being a larger dress size. It might be visceral, but even if it's subcutaneous it still won't push your size outwards as much as if you have a larger bone frame. So you can be a small circumference but soft, that is consisting of a larger proportion of fat to bone and muscle than someone with a larger bone frame.

a friend who is a bodybuilder and stuntwoman, looks like there is literally no fat on her anywhere at all, most toned person I've ever seen and even hers is still 18%

oh and if you want to check accuracy for sure, get a dexa body scan - google, theres a few uk places that do it. Shows bone density and other interesting things too

That's an athlete's body fat ratio. I don't see the relevance to OP.
