Calorie counting tdee carbs helpppppp

Hi everyone

Im currently very very overweight. The biggest Ive ever been. Last few years two pregnancies and I'm the heaviest I've been.

In past keto has worked really well for me. Ive lost shit loads of weight on it and then piled it all back on. Clearly because I wasn't so good at the maintenance bit. Keto works and I've seen it but I think I can't do it any longer. I crave carbs now and then binge.

I love healthy eating, but I am not eating healthy right now in my life. I am wanting to change that and am willing to cook prepare and precook. I would much rather eat broccoli over chips. But atm it's the other way around for convenience.

Ive calculated my tdee and it's 2781 calories for maintenance. So do I need to be 500 lower? Should I go about 700 lower for quicker results? Do I need to measure my macros too? I'm wanting to follow a fairly low Carb but not keto or too low. I will incorporate good carbs and rid the fast food etc. But just how many carbs? How much protein and fat?

What do you do and what works for you Please help.

Thanks for advance

Congratulations on wanting help.
I was very over weight at one time and tried every diet known to man. I've been up and down the scale so much. I would lose weight only to gain weight again. So frustrating.
Starting at fat, chubby, a little over weight, skinny and too thin, back to fat...within months.

For the first time in my life I set a realistic goal ...NOT one where it is too unrealistic for me to maintain. So I have been maintaining my weight now for a few months.
The only thing that works for me is to count calories. PERIOD.
So I can eat 1,690 calories per day and I'm sedimentary to be at an acceptable BMI.
It works for me because I don't deny myself anything. IF I want a piece of pie I put the calories down and know how many calories I can eat the rest of the day. ( roasted chicken, salad..etc)
I try to eat healthy... but also want to live life. So counting calories allows me to do this. I eat bread, potatoes..etc. and add it to my calorie count for the day.
Good Luck! Take one step at a time and make sure you get a good scale to monitor progress. YOU GOT this.

This is what I want to do too. I want a realistic goal and realistic lifestyle.

It's good to hear that you are able to eat carbs so long as your within your calories. I think carbs are seen as so bad that I need to get my head around the whole thing properly!

Did you lose weight with counting calories too or just maintenance? If so would you recommend to go 500 calories lower than my tdee? X

I think when people talk about a calorie deficit of 500 cals per day, it’s because that’s about the amount that would total 3500 in a week, which equals 1lb of fat loss. So if you are aiming to lose 1lb per week, then yes, drop down to about 2250 cals. If you want to lose 2lbs per week, drop it further to a 1000 cal per day deficit, so more like 1750.

Make sure you allow for any weekend treats, as a lot of people ‘relax’ at the weekend and go over their target, so you need to make sure you’re hitting the average for the week.

I'm in agreement with both PPs.

My tdee is 1450 per day. I follow MFP and eat 1200 calories daily (that's net calories ie with exercise factored in). I lose weight very slowly on that but I'm ancient and only very slightly overweight atm.

I eat what I like within that calorie range.

It works because it's sustainable and flexible.

Yes I lost weight counting calories..
What you need to do is to find your BMI ( body max index)
www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/assessing/bmi/adult_bmi/english_bmi_calculator/bmi_calculator.html

You will see it is easy...( Now I'm a little bit above my BMI ..and good)
Now you have to determine what you would LIKE to weight..realistically as you said...Not so you can get into skinny jeans..a weight you look good, feel good at. ( I had clothes that I couldn't wear when I was at my thinnest..ha..and finally pitched)
Now take that weight and determine how many calories you need to lose and maintain...
www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-many-calories-per-day#calculator

I guarantee you will lose weight if you count calories...I couldn't believe it...I always counted carbs and was starved. Good Luck!

I promise you...it will work. Counting carbs was so draining. today I had potatoes with butter, sliced to tomatoes, hamburger with a bun. That's roughly 600 calories and I still have like 700 to go...

You have to let us know it worked for you. Give it a week or two... You'll be surprised.
ONLY weigh yourself first thing in the morning...after you pee..ha stark naked. that is your true weight.

We got your back...easy peasy...
