Well, before i put on weight i managed to loose over 4 kg by following no carbs after 5 by Joanna Hall, I took it more strictly and avoided bread, biscuits, rice, pasta and almost always potatoes for several month. Since i relaxed the weight is slowly coming back so I'm not sure it was worth it. I also had soups for lunch often and salads with almost every dinner. I stopped having concentrated fruit juices with my meals and i had plain water and I had max 3 cups of tea/coffee a day.

hiya fedda. it sounds like you are eating very healthily , which is good in itself

i did low-carbing too and lost 2 1/2 stone in 6 months, i was v strict at first and slackened off towards the end

had a blow out over christmas and have put on 3 lbs, am a bit sad as i still have another stone to lose.

i think the key things for me personally are to keep moving, to cut out all wheat and sugar and drinking tons of water. and no diet drinks at all as the fake sugars make it harder to lose weight. but i also think it varies from person to person

Hi, mazzystar. Yes, i was eating very healthily and unfortunately I went towards the other way of eating biscuits, chockies, white bread, white rice and other things I was avoiding for months. Unfortunately i simply can't have tea or coffee without sugar - i have 2 spoons with coffee and 1 spoon with tea. I often use jam sweetened with grape juice in my tea for sweet taste and flavour and honey in my coffee but i still prefer sugar. in winter I tend to have 5 - 6 cups a day so you can see how impossible slimming is in this case. It's stupid to know what's wrong and not doing anything about it so I feel a real IDIOT. Anyway, I need to go back to healthy stuff but i feel I'm still traped in Christmas celebrations having my in laws staying with us and overeating all the time. i put on weight.

mazzystar · 03/01/2008 23:26

don't be so hard on yourself! its so hard to get motivated, and its even harder to stay motivated and having other people around makes things doubly impossible
i keep saying to myself, i want to lose more weight, but it doesn't have to be today. can"t keep on saying it much lvnger
i guess herbal/fruit/rooibos teas that tend to be a bit sweeter just don't cut it for you? i hate milk in any form so i drink these or tea with a slice of lemon.

fedda · 03/01/2008 23:35

i think I can open a shop with the teas I bought - bluberry, raspberry, white tea, green tea - you name it, I have it, I try it - it's okay, I have it again and I can't stand it. I love tea with lemon but it has to have a spoon of sugar. I tried hot water with lemon but i can tolorate it in little sips sometimes but it doesn't give me any pleasure. I even tried to heat up some fruit juice as I need a hot drink in Winter but it's just not what I'm looking for. Oh, dear!

I've ended up "loving the body I'm in" but it's not working and so I guess I'll try again in '08 but can only see me gaining more weight

I'm trying to be good. Do you want to join me?

fishie · 04/01/2008 18:29

double exercise
halve calorie intake

give up whatever is your downfall (cheese in my case) voila goodbye 10kilos.

fedda · 04/01/2008 18:37

So, without double excersise, would it be good bye 5 kg?

rey · 04/01/2008 19:28

How do you manage to be "good" fedda? I seem to have no will power at all.

OP posts:
fishie · 04/01/2008 22:23

no would be the same i think but wouldn't feel so virtuous. and you have to drink lots to fill gaps so better done properly thirsty.

it is very annoying, but the only way to lose weight is to change your eating habits. if you can exercise alongside it helps a lot.

it is silly to eat less for a little while and then return to previous feeding, might as well not bother.

fedda · 05/01/2008 13:03

I can be good, even very good but it doesn't last, I'm afraid. I had all the good stuff yesterday but then i had to serve ice cream and I just couldn;t resist and it ws followed by coffee with 2 sugars and 3 sigments of orange chocolate

Quattrocento · 05/01/2008 13:09

At the end of 07 I was a stone lighter than at the start of the year.

It wasn't a straight line though - I gained around 10 lbs at the start of the year, then decided to do something about it and went to weight watchers. I lost two stone there. It was good. Unfortunately I then put half a stone back on.

WW does work but you have to make the lifestyle change permanent. I was VERY VERY lonely at WW - they thought I was mad - possibly they are not wrong.

fedda · 05/01/2008 13:11

The point is most diets work when you follow them. It's what you do after is more critical. I think I need to develop something which would be good for life and I wouldn't rebel against it.
