When do you drop a dress size!

I have been trying to lose weight since 1 jan and have managed to shift 16lbs so far and have just dropped out of the obese category.

I am really pleased with myself … but …. I haven’t noticed much difference in my clothes. There are one or two items which for better, but I just tried on all my size 14 dresses and they are all still far too tight. I have one size 16 work dress and one pair of work trousers that I bought in desperation before Christmas because I need something to wear to work!

I expected after this much weight loss my size 14s would fit again. It is depressing!!

So am I being unrealistic - how much weight did it take you all to moves down a size - 16 to 14!!

I can't give you a satisfactory answer but I can say that it kind of crept up on me - I similarly lost weight and felt happy about it but didn't notice any real change to my body shape, then one day I suddenly realised that my clothes were hanging off me and I needed a whole lot of new smaller sizes. I'm not sure if it happened very quickly or I just didn't notice. I do think that upping my exercise and doing HIIT stuff more helped, thinking about it.
Don't get disheartened - you're doing amazingly, keep up the good work.

16lb since 1 Jan is a LOT. Try carrying all that as bags of flour / sugar and you'll see it! Just hold on in there and try again in a few weeks. I have no idea about when a size changes and would imagine it depends on the item of clothing. Are you measuring your body around your widest and slimmest points? You will probably be seeing big changes. Well done and carry on.

Well done on your loss so far! I actually tracked this when I started losing weight last year and I needed to lose 18lbs to go from a size 16, to a 14. I think that how much you need to lose will also depend on where you carry your weight. If you have a tendency to put weight on on your stomach, you may need to lose more because it will take a while before your body starts using those reserves if that’s its favourite place to store it all!

Weightloss is a really weird thing. You have weeks, or even months of not noticing much, followed by what feels like rapid changes to your body shape. I recommend taking pictures of yourself each month, because you will start noticing changes that you may not be so aware of when you look at yourself in the mirror each day.

Op were you wearing stretchy clothes before? I’d suspect you were closer to an eighteen than a sixteen and that’s why you are still not quite a fourteen yet.

Well done on your weight loss, that's fantastic in such a short time. I've lost 12lb this year and I haven't changed size yet, my size 16 jeans are too big and size 14 are too small but close so I'm thinking another 4-5 pounds and should be there so you won't be far away Smile

Well done on your weight loss! I lost two stone recently, I "just" fit into my jeans at my heaviest. I still wear those jeans now and although they're a little baggy around the bum these days and if I bought a new pair I'd go down a size, they still fit.

If you were an obese bmi, also take into account you probably had quite a bit of fat around your organs, and if that's where the fat has gone from that can only be a good thing!

I was mainly wearing stretchy 14s - my tailored 14s didn’t fit anymore. I had tailored trousers and a dress an 16 - no stretch (but maybe generous sizes!).

Hopefully in a few more pounds I will notice a difference.

I my mind I should be a 14 by now😊. But I maybe need to get below 11 stone before I got back into the 14s and below 10st for my normal size 12!

All very depressing! And I refuse to buy more size 16 clothes!!!
