Noom: no progress after a week

I started Noom on a whim last week after a friend told me of the great progress she had made with it.

I'm 10st 7, would like to get down to 10st or below. Not a huge amount to lose, but all my clothes are tight and I've been gradually putting on weight over the last few years despite being careful/going low carb/ etc.

Over the first few days I lost a couple of pounds and was quite encouraged.
However, after the weekend including a meal out and a couple of (small) glasses of wine on two evenings I'm back to where I started.

I feel really discouraged and that, despite their saying occasional treats are fine, it's basically impossible to lose weight unless I'm strict 100% of the time.

Any insights?

I don't know anything about Noom, but, to be fair, you've
a) treated yourself to a meal out
b)had two glasses of wine one evening
c) had two glasses of wine another evening

all of which is fine, in life, but not going to be conducive to loosing weight now is it ? Grin

A week isn't long. Takes a while to reset habit sand think differently about the ebb and flow of eating and appetite and disconnect eating from feelings. Give it six weeks.

A week is nothing, especially if it’s a week including eating out and drinking more than usual.

It’s totally normal for it to take longer to start seeing changes and then suddenly drop a lot. There are all sorts of other things that can impact your weight at any given moment. Stick at it and hopefully you’ll see a general trend downwards.

If you are strict 100% of the time you’ll lose more quickly but for many people (including me), that’s not sustainable or much fun so slower is better.

I don't know anything about Noom, but I'm
losing weight at the moment and j absolutely wouldn't be having meals out our wine while
I shift it! I only want about 7lbs off - should do it in 7 weeks on 1200 calories a day.
I take small treat to mean e.g. mini mars bar

You realise the calories in a small glass of wine are similar to a small mars bar?

I've been doing Noom and have only lost a few pounds. Been doing it about six months but Tbf I've been pissing about on it and eating a lot of red foods

goldenbag · 14/02/2022 23:20

@PurpleDaisies I do, but the OP said she had two glasses of wine on two days plus a meal out, which is different to finding the calories for one mini Mars bar within 1200.

Sally872 · 14/02/2022 23:38

Noom is all about tracking calories and changing habits. Give it some time but essentially you need to burn more calories than you eat. Noom is good at teaching you how to do that in a sustainable way.

Thanks! I know I'm being impatient. The reason I am frustrated is that the meal out was modest and the glasses of wine were small -- genuine 1-unit size, not a generous "at home" glass... and the rest of the time I'm being very strict.

Get 15,000 steps that will really boost your calorie deficit and drink 2 litres of water a day to help reduce hunger helps me.

I’m feeling frustrated with Noom too. I lost half a stone before Christmas but then put it back on again and now my weight is stuck and won’t shift at all! I’m sticking to my allowances but will see if I can increase my green foods to see if that makes a difference.

Noom is mostly just another way to keep you mindful and accountable. It's not magic and won't work if ou don't actually do it properly. Colleague of mine lost 3 St in about 5 months. Just steady.
