@fudfootedfannybangle
I can answer your question about boozing having been a soak.
If you do not drink now don't start! I am waiting for my op date (nhs) and I gave up the grape to expedite the surgery and shrink my liver. My obesity and drinking were a symptom of deep distress. I spent my wine budget on counselling. And I have lost nearly two stone (1 dress size).
I understand it is very hard to drink a lot with a sleeve so that shouldn't be a problem unless you are already alcohol dependant.

It’s not hard to drink after a sleeve at all. I can drink exactly the same level of booze as before and was able to drink from 6 weeks. Transfer addiction is a real issue for some people so you really have to be careful. Apparently some people find they get drunk too easily in the early days.

SavBbunny · 22/07/2022 06:28

@WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor
Thanks for the post.
I have two friends of friends who are sleeved and can't drink at all. Tbh they can only eat tiny meals and are not really drinkers.
One has become a dedicated shopper. I will discuss this with my surgeon. The mind is a powerful voice if you feel hard done by.

fudfootedfannybangle · 22/07/2022 07:30

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to put everyone on a downer by shining a spotlight on “ishoos”. 😔

at the moment I’m trying to focus on a reward I can only go under a certain weight - hopefully eyes on the happy prize rather than finding a new brain anaesthetic.

im not a huge drinker right now and that’s a good tip to lay off completely for liver shrinkage.

@SavBbunny im off In october so I’ve a little wait yet and I’m going for the bypass rather than the sleeve so booze will probably floor me.

SavBbunny · 22/07/2022 07:59

@fudfootedfannybangle
My liver shrank to near normal readings in 5 months.
I will budget for more counselling if I feel the wine witch's call after my surgery. Highly likely I will buy too many clothes. That's what I used to do pre children and obesity. At least you can send them back these days.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 22/07/2022 08:15

I have to admit I definitely buy too many clothes. But everything looks good! When I was at my biggest I’d go shopping or do an online order and not want to buy a single thing. Now everything fits and there’s nothing better than having to look for a small because the medium swomps me.

WitchesWalk · 22/07/2022 08:17

I fly on Monday. Op on Tuesday.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

im excited and bloody terrified. Can’t wait to get it done and get on with life.

need to pack.

fudfootedfannybangle · 22/07/2022 08:51

@WitchesWalk exciting! What are you planning to pack?

what did everyone else take?

I already have far too many clothes as I couldn’t bear to part with them even though they’d not go over my knees. So for a good while I’ll be able to shop my own wardrobe. Eg I have TEN (!) pairs of jeans I can’t fit into.

WitchesWalk · 22/07/2022 09:00

So far I have packed some mini toiletries and a big bag of yarn.

I also won’t have to actually shop for clothes that fit for quite some time. Biiig box of assorted too small stuff I kept because I assumed I’d crack the diet thing one day and fit them Hmm

WitchesWalk · 22/07/2022 09:31

Packing tips please.
monday - travelling. Normal clothes
Tuesday - surgery day. PJs?
wednesday - comfy
thursday - comfy
friday - comfy/recycle Monday travelling.

1 set of PJs? Is that mingin for 4 nights?
do I need a dressing gown? I’ve never worn one at all. Would a cardi do?

fudfootedfannybangle · 22/07/2022 13:40

I’m planning to take just one pair of jammies plus nightdress (if I’ve got drains in), travel in leggings and slouchy stuff. Only taking deodorant and lip balm - I’m going to assume the hotel has smellies. Kindle, phone, chargers. Doesn’t seem much point taking anything else as I plan on resting in bed. 🤷‍♀️

McLarenette · 22/07/2022 14:44

The hospital staff asked if I had a dressing gown when I arrived (I did not) because you walk down to the theatre.

I didn’t care I was only in the gown thing because I knew most of the same people would be basically seeing a lot of me naked a few minutes later but if the idea of shuffling along a corridor wearing only a hospital gown bugs you, I would take a gown.

bornonvalentines · 25/07/2022 07:43

In waiting room to go down to surgery today. I'm apparently second on the list. I'll report from the frontline when I can Flowers

@bornonvalentines how are you?

bornonvalentines · 26/07/2022 09:05

My experience in the NHS has been terrible. Will wait til more people have had theirs before I give the whole update. Sending Flowers to everyone going through it.

Twinsandsome · 26/07/2022 09:42

Good luck @WitchesWalk where are you having your surgery at? X

Twinsandsome · 26/07/2022 09:43

Sorry to hear that@bornonvalentines xx

rainwilder · 26/07/2022 11:33

Hi all - I just wanted to check in and give a little update on my experience, 1 month post-sleeve.

I'm feeling so much healthier. I'm 2 stone down (I lost 1 stone the week before surgery and 1 stone the week after). No movement on the scale for the last 3 weeks, which I understand is fairly normal, but the inches are definitely coming off, my clothes are looser week on week and it's such a joy trying on old clothes that now actually fit - I'm down two dress sizes.

My heart rate has improved - my resting rate used to hover around 85 or 90 just sat at my desk, but now it's more like 70-75, or even 65 if I've just woken up. I can walk to the shop without getting out of breath.

It's not all great - I'm struggling a bit with food and I really need to work on my water intake - I used to drink LOADS of water every day but find it really hard now. I'm finding flavoured water too sickly, and I just don't seem to like the taste of tea or coffee any more. I got bored very quickly with the liquid only/puree stage and must admit I pushed the boundaries a bit after a couple of weeks and tried some more solid stuff but just chewed the hell out of it. I don't enjoy eating at the moment though, even soft stuff seems to get stuck in my throat after a couple of mouthfuls and I end up being sick. I'm most comfortable just having soup or yoghurt drinks and will carry on with that for the foreseeable. This will no doubt get better with time so it doesn't worry me too much.

I'm mourning the big roast dinners and Big Mac meals that I used to love, but it's become really clear to me now just how much I was overeating in the first place, and it's no wonder I'm the size that i am. I'm really happy that I took the action that I did and am seeing results already. No regrets - wish I'd done it years ago.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 26/07/2022 18:25

When I first had my sleeve I really wanted pizza and take away etc. I was worried that it hadn’t worked as most people seem to say they stopped feeling hungry. Pretty much as soon as I was allowed to eat solids I tried a bite of pizza and it was awful. Haven’t missed it since. I did the same for most other foods I used to love. Now I mostly just have healthy ‘clean’ foods and don’t miss the bad stuff (except the occasional bite of cake or chocolate but I can’t tolerate much). It’s not really a conscious effort I just feel satisfied from what I eat and junk food makes me feel a bit heavy and weird.

Twinsandsome · 26/07/2022 20:37

@WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor you are so lucky I have found I’ve been able to eat junk food far too easy they really are sliders 😔

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 26/07/2022 22:20

I agree it’s worked out well so far. Hopefully it’s stays this way. I am stating to think about trying to maintain now. It’s a weird mindset to be trying to eat more after a life time of restricting myself.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 26/07/2022 22:21

@Twinsandsome how far out are you now?

Twinsandsome · 26/07/2022 23:23

@WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor im 3 months out. I have lost weight just over 4 stone but I still have a good amount left to lose and it scares me how I’ve let habits slip back in and sliders go down far too easy. Out of interest would you be fit to eat a piece of toast? At the start I couldn’t manage a piece of toast but lately I’ve been able to eat the piece with 1 egg which seems so much compared to what I was eating a month ago etc x

Twinsandsome · 26/07/2022 23:24

How far out are you @WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor
