Good luck Mclarenette.
i am not enjoying the LRD. Not at all.

McLarenette · 12/07/2022 21:30

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, the LRD is no fun. At least it’s easier when it’s so hot out (or so it seems to me)

niki26 · 14/07/2022 13:46

My virtual consultation has been postponed.... can't be helped but I'm a bit disappointed!

The very lovely helpful lady on the phone said that we are looking at a three month waiting list for surgery but slots do come up sooner every so often....she said we were essentially looking at October. I've got a trip to New York booked for December - those that have had surgery would you recommend waiting until after the trip? I was sort of hoping to have lost some weight for the trip to be honest!

(Of course I'll ask the surgeon when I have my virtual appointment but just thought I'd ask here in the interim!)

fudfootedfannybangle · 14/07/2022 17:29

My surgery is October and I’ve got a weekend away in December. I expect to be rocking a 2 stone weight loss.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 14/07/2022 17:31

@niki26 it depends what you have planned. If it’s a relaxing holiday with a pool it might be great. If your wanting to trek all around NY and try lots of food I’d wait till your further heeled. I’d say 4 months out would be perfect.

Is that Southampton by any chance?! Their list seems rather long.

MGBop2022 · 16/07/2022 10:28

I had my op on 07/07 and am really regretting it. I feel so awful every day and am afraid that I’ve made the wrong decision.

has anyone else felt like this and then became happy with the decision? Thanks

Twinsandsome · 16/07/2022 11:00

Hi @porkypine im getting on ok. But frustrated and annoyed with myself at the minute. I’ve lost 4 stone but it isn’t evident like for conte t I still have 12 to lose but I’ve noticed as past 2 weeks maybe that I’ve been eating a lot of slider foods and I’ve scared I’ve messed this up already and feeling very negative. I can’t help think should I of have a bypass instead and keep googling stuff like how soon after a sleeve does stomach stretch and when does those hormones kick in again because I’ve contantly thinking about food and picking at food and pushing boundary’s.

for context I have no problem with any food groups, my surgeons recommendations after was 1 week fluid, 1 week purée 1 week soft then go with anything from there and I think maybe having longer times in those phases might have gave me longer to adjust I don’t know. I don’t regret having it because I am very fortunate that it all went smoothly and I’ve had no trouble from it I just think I’ve self sabbataging and annoyed . How are you doing? Xx

porkypine · 16/07/2022 11:36

@MGBop2022 why are you regretting it? My understanding is that it's common to begin with to regret it as it's so final and the realisation kicks in.
I've yet to have surgery - speaking with a surgeon next week.

niki26 · 16/07/2022 11:37

@porkypine sorry I didn't see the responses until now! No it's Gatwick Spire!

@niki26 ah I see. I was told Southampton would be October onwards, but could do London or Birmingham July or August and would get a discount for travelling to those locations, which I'm currently considering.

porkypine · 16/07/2022 11:46

@Twinsandsome have you considered having therapy alongside this? It may help with the self sabotage. 4 stone loss already is great. I'm speaking with a surgeon next week to try to get it squared in my head. Think if I do go ahead it'll be next month. I have a history of self sabotage though so it's something I am conscious of.

bornonvalentines · 16/07/2022 16:18

Hi everyone. I'm 9 days away from being admitted to St Richards in Chichester for a bypass by Guy Slater. I was approved for NHS surgery in Dec 2017.

Must admit that I'm struggling with the milk diet, just counting the days down now.

Wanted to join the chat, and will keep you posted. Flowers

McLarenette · 16/07/2022 17:29

Hi folks, the bypass operation seemed to go well, being driven home really took it out of me, can see why they don’t let you drive for weeks. I’m a bit uncomfortable but the painkillers really help. Now it’s just a question of try to work out a schedule of drinking enough fluid, taking the supplements etc, making sure the surgical incisions heal etc.

Bit disappointed I haven’t already lost weight but I’m guessing the body retains a ton of water following the surgery. Knew it wasn’t realistic but I am also thinking ah, c’mon that’s basically no meaningful food since Tuesday night -HOW’ lol.

It is as freeing as I hoped not to be thinking of what I can next eat, how much and when, which is the main thing. I know this will not always be the case but I hope by the time it comes back, the habits will be second nature.

Oh, just because I found this fascinating, the surgeon said he could tell I’d done the LRD because apparently you can kind of see marks where the liver has previously been taking up space, then shrank. Bit like a high tide line, I guess!

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 18/07/2022 09:19

@MGBop2022 your at the worst possible point. You’re recovering from major surgery and are still overweight with all of the issues that brings. Believe me it’s hard at the beginning but it gets better and better.

MGBop2022 · 18/07/2022 14:46

@WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor thanks, good to know I’m not here on my own . Had a chat with my bariatric nurse and she also said it’s not an unusual feeling at this stage.

ClappyFats · 18/07/2022 18:28

I hope it's ok to post on the thread. I am de-lurking just to say this thread is really helping me, thank you. All of the information and comments are really useful because you know it's genuine and not to advertise some organisation. I have saved up to go private and just mustering the courage to contact a surgeon now.

MGBob22 - this is my fear that I will have it done and then regret how finite it is. At the same time, I think I need something that I can't "cheat" at. How are you feeling? Is it physical discomfort or psychological aspects that's the hardest at the moment?

fudfootedfannybangle · 21/07/2022 12:56

@MGBop2022 how are you feeling now?

@ClappyFats have you made that call yet?

I booked my flights this morning and my passport is in my sweaty mitts. I understand the feelings of regret - even hitting the “buy now” button I was thinking “oh well, it’s only the deposit + flights - can still back out”.

I suppose I worry about what I might replace food with. Have any of you read “I’m still hungry” by can’t-remember-her-name - singer from Wilson Philips - she swapped grub for booze and had an ugly couple of years.

perhaps I’ll be one of those who swaps food for a “quick 5 mile run”! 😂

in fewer than 3 months I’ll be on the loser’s bench - should be plenty of room for me by then. 😁

bornonvalentines · 21/07/2022 14:40

Hello, good afternoon everyone. I have a question about clothes.

How long would you say it took you to drop a dress size, and can you roughly equate it to pounds lost?

I'm lucky enough to have an Autumn holiday, six weeks post op, and am wondering what size clothes I should be looking to buy.

Thanks in advance (love, v v v sick of the milk diet x)

ClappyFats · 21/07/2022 18:28

fudfootedfannybangle

I haven't decided Gloucester or Bristol, but have got it down to those 2 choices. I wonder as well what I will console myself with once food is out of the picture. I'm equally hoping I get exercise obsessed!! I did used to love exercising when I was slim many years ago. I can see how you could very easily turn to a glass of wine though. How are you doing? Have your nerves settled any? When do you fly out?

bornonvalentines

I obviously haven't had the op yet so will let someone who knows what they're on about respond - but on my many yo-yo diets I used to find for me that a stone and a bit was a dress size roughly speaking. It's a very inexact measure though. I can imagine you are sick of the milk diet!! How much longer?

bornonvalentines · 21/07/2022 18:40

Thanks @ClappyFats

My op is on Monday so only 3 more days of milk. I was browsing swimwear for September to try and take my mind off it DaffodilWink

SavBbunny · 21/07/2022 18:40

@fudfootedfannybangle
I can answer your question about boozing having been a soak.
If you do not drink now don't start! I am waiting for my op date (nhs) and I gave up the grape to expedite the surgery and shrink my liver. My obesity and drinking were a symptom of deep distress. I spent my wine budget on counselling. And I have lost nearly two stone (1 dress size).
I understand it is very hard to drink a lot with a sleeve so that shouldn't be a problem unless you are already alcohol dependant.

ClappyFats · 21/07/2022 19:02

That's made me smile - the thought of browsing swimwear. The thought of browsing any clothes actually with a feeling of pleasure rather than how I currently feel. Good for you. Not long now, will be cheering you on on Monday.

Daft question, but aside from being thoroughly peed off with the boredom of just milk, have you been hungry all the time or has it killed the cravings?

bornonvalentines · 21/07/2022 19:14

Hungry all the time I'm afraid. Thank God the end is near!

ClappyFats · 21/07/2022 19:18

Blimey in that case you have my admiration! You have done amazingly. Nearly at the end! 💪
