Also 3 stone in 6 weeks @coldandverytired , that's crazy! Congratulations!

StickyFingeredWeeNed · 30/06/2022 14:58

@coldandverytired that is INCREDIBLE! 4 years of self-loathing reversed in 6 weeks. I’m so glad I’m on this path. I asked for nhs tier 3 during lockdown and that request obviously got filed under “who fucking cares?”.

coldandverytired · 30/06/2022 19:48

Thanks all, it’s a little over 3 stone and that’s with a 2 week stall, the first 3 weeks it dropped off, then 2 weeks of not much to write home about but I’ve dropped again the last few weeks.
Measurement wise I’ve lost 87cm in total, mainly my waist and hips but my neck and bust have changed fairly significantly too- I actually have a waist now 🙈 i wore a baggy pair of size 22/24 dungarees to get to turkey for the op but they are now totally unwearable and I’m in a size 18- my old clothes look like clown trousers 😂 still a long way to go but for those waiting or newly sleeved, believe in the process because you will have moments when you haven’t lost and you wonder why the heck you did it, but it’s short lived!

I feel fab, my face has changed totally, my confidence is growing and I’m looking forward to going clothes shopping next month when I can hopefully buy size 16 🙂

these are my stats in Kg 😁

Incredible! 😲 I want baggy clown clothes too! stomps feet I’ve still got tons of teeny-tiny <tinkly laugh> clothes from when I had my band… so I can shop out of my own wardrobe for years.

(I’ve name changed but am a regular foul-mouthed Scot booked in for October).

for those of you who went overseas, who did you use for medical travel insurance?

coldandverytired · 01/07/2022 18:44

@fudfootedfannybangle I didn’t do insurance 🥴 which looking back might have been daft but I didn’t need it thankfully 😬

BettyB0Op · 02/07/2022 19:28

I had a gastric sleeve in October 2021 in Birmingham at a cost of around £10,200. My weight has been an issue almost all my life and weightloss, dieting and food consumed my life.

Following the death of my much loved Grandmother, through the grieving my weight gain really ramped up between 2019-2021 ending up almost 20 stone at 5.3ft ans a size 22/24.

At 35 my body was in an awful state and struggling to function without painkillers. Alongside that my mental health was in ruins and I was taking 90mg of Duloxetine daily.

I’d managed to drop some weight in early lockdown purely from not being in work drinking lattes all day but stalled at around 18.9 st. I couldn’t even contemplate the sheer amount of effort and willpower I would need to find to get back to a healthy weight having lost and gained the same 5/6 stone many times.

After talking it through with my husband he fully supported me in my decision to get a gastric sleeve and within 3 weeks it was booked, paid for and I was in the operating theatre.

The first few days/weeks were rough and I had some buyers remorse. I missed eating so much and never through I’d get used to not having huge portions but I did. Each week/month that passed things got better and my weight dropped faster than I could ever have imagined.

As of today I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. I’m 10 stone 12 lbs and a size 12, I’m full of confidence again and no longer on any medication. I have an issue with buying clothes because literally everything I try on looks so good, I’ve never had that problem!! I no longer shy away from parties or nights out, I can’t wait to go to get dressed up. I have no pain anywhere on my body, it has truly changed my life in so many ways. It’s still hard sometimes not eating much or sometimes eating too much and making myself ill but I wouldn’t give this up for anything. My BMI is down from 48 to 27 and I have just 14lbs left to my first target weight.

I just wanted to share my story in the hope it will help others make their mind up. Best of luck to you all x

fudfootedfannybangle · 03/07/2022 05:52

@BettyB0Op that’s wonderful to hear! Well done in your terrific loss and return to health.

@coldandverytired oooh you naughty gal! 😂 I’ll have to, I’ve got such a lot of travelling to do I just darent. Especially as I have a history of dramatic panic attacks on planes, I’ll probably demand to be taken to the nearest hospital when actually all I needed was a nice coffee, biscuit and to listen to some whale music for half an hour.

got my passport photos done yesterday. Was nearly at the shop when I realised I’d forgotten to put on even a scrap of make-up. But then I don’t think you’re supposed to look “nice” in passport pics. She showed me the pic but I still had my glasses off so I said - in the way you say to a hairdresser after a bad cut - “oooh yes lovely thank you”.

ancient pasty pancake face. And in 12 months my face will be half the size, so who cares!? 🙏

MGBop2022 · 05/07/2022 11:00

My op is this Thursday! I’ve felt so excited up to today and now I’m starting to feel quite nervous.

smurffette · 06/07/2022 09:56

Anyone else have a sleeve in May 22? I’m nearly 2 stone down and so glad I took the plunge!

coldandverytired · 06/07/2022 11:25

Good luck @MGBop2022 !

Hi @smurffette I was very early May, sleeved in turkey. 22kg's down so far at my last weigh in 😁

MGBop2022 · 06/07/2022 12:51

@coldandverytired thank you!

fudfootedfannybangle · 06/07/2022 14:36

@MGBop2022 good luck for tomorrow!

smurffette · 06/07/2022 15:10

@coldandverytired That’s AMAZING.
It’s a life- changer already for me and my journey has only just begun. I’m on an all inclusive holiday for 10 days on the 24th - shame I’ll not be able to take full advantage like I would normally 😂

MGBop2022 · 06/07/2022 22:07

Thanks @fudfootedfannybangle Buyers regret is setting in early. I keep questioning why I’m doing it tonight.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 06/07/2022 22:53

You would be mad if you didn’t feel a bit nervous. I still sometimes think ‘what the hell did I do’ it’s so extreme.
However, I’ve never regretted it, not for a second.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 08/07/2022 10:39

@MGBop2022 how are you feeling today?

MGBop2022 · 08/07/2022 18:25

He @WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor im not too bad. Feel worse today than yesterday strangely.
I have managed a few spoons of consommé and soup.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 08/07/2022 22:14

Well done on getting some soup down. Its a rough few days after surgery. Day 2 was bad for me too. Day 3 I could suddenly drink more and stopped vomiting. Had a brilliant recovery after that.

MGBop2022 · 09/07/2022 08:41

That’s really good to hear. Difficult to get even water down now, so it’s great to know there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

WitchesWalk · 09/07/2022 16:01

Afternoon.
2 weeks to go and I’m suddenly bricking it badly.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 09/07/2022 20:57

@MGBop2022 have you tried warm juice? I could only tolerate hot cordial for the first couple of weeks.

MGBop2022 · 09/07/2022 21:57

That’s a great tip @WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor thanks

porkypine · 09/07/2022 22:51

Twinsandsome · 11/06/2022 21:26

@JaneIsInsane keep going it gets better. Itchy incisions is good means they are healing. In a couple of weeks you will be flying mines was 1 week liquid, 1 week purée and 1 week soft and then normal foods ad each stage flew past. Keep getting plenty water xx

How are you getting on @Twinsandsome?

McLarenette · 12/07/2022 18:32

I’m getting a gastric bypass tomorrow at the Spire in Bristol! I feel pretty excited about it even though I suspect there’s a good couple of days of feeling mouldy afterwards and then the hard work of learning to eat again.

But the longer term thought of not being plagued of ‘when can I eat again/another two hours/aaargh BUT I’M HUNGRY NOW’ feels so seductive and exciting.

I know there is still a lot of work but I am hopeful this will shift the odds in my favour of it working. I have high blood pressure, raised sugars (diabetes in our family) and whenever the GP takes a blood test, they note low levels of inflammation. All of these should benefit from the excess weight going.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 12/07/2022 19:54

@McLarenette exciting!
You may be completely fine. Many people have an easy recovery. Let us know how to get on and I’ll make room on the losers bench for you.
