@muddyone1968

Had my consultation with Chris Pring on Thursday and now received my quote for a sleeve with Streamline - £10485. I've been reading the posts on Facebook and freaking myself out. Lots of people saying they really regret having surgery. Any advice from those of you who've been through this?
With anything you are going to get people saying both good and bad. I haven’t had mine yet, it is middle of March. I have done a lot of research and looked at all sorts of pros and cons. Yes there are cons, and it isn’t something to do that involves no effort either. You still need to eat right etc.

Someone at work had it done and the difference in her is amazing, not just the amount of weight lost but also in herself. She is a lot happier, more confident etc.

Having a sleeve will mean changing your life, I am a Diet Coke fiend and I know I will have to give that up, I am weaning myself off it slowly. I will also have to plan food etc so I know I am getting enough nutrients, but I can lose weight on my own, I just struggle to keep it off so it won’t be much different day to day from my previous diets, it is just a permanent one.

Brindille · 12/02/2022 14:45

Hi @muddyone1968, Chris Pring did my sleeve just over three weeks ago. He struck me as a very competent and experienced surgeon and I felt in very good hands.

The last three weeks have been hard, I can't sugar coat it, but I have no regrets about getting this surgery done. I keep saying to people it is both the easiest and hardest diet I've ever done! It is hard because I'm having to relearn how to eat, and what quantities etc I can manage. It is tiring and quite all-consuming trying to keep myself nourished and hydrated at this stage. But it is also very easy! I have no hunger or cravings. I enjoy my food when I have it but I don't feel as desperately hungry etc any more. It is freeing.

Anyway, feel free to ask me any questions you have and I'll do my best to answer them.

muddyone1968 · 12/02/2022 16:46

Thank you for the replies.
When you say it's been hard, can you elaborate? Have you been sick?

I'm also worrying about the number of people who seem to be saying they are having their sleeve converted to a bypass.

Hi all

This is my first time every posting on mums net - and Ive come on here purely to get advice and recommendations.

For most of my life I have been struggling with my weight. When I was younger (my teens) I underwent major orthopaedic surgery which had a massive psychological impact on me and meant I was no longer able to be as active as I was so used to being. I fell into a horrible depression and the weight piled on!

Im now in my mid 30s and so desperately want to lose the weight. For myself. For my self esteem. To feel confident. To get my life back. To have children. For all of the reasons we all have!

I have been researching the different procedures and given my previous experiences of surgery, am not keen on any surgical procedures that require me to go "under the knife" so to speak.

SO - if I get to the point. The endoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (ESG)... Has anyone had one? Would they be willing to share their experiences please?

TIA

My surgery is mid March, I'm doing lots of research and currently reading Living with Bariatric surgery.
I've started my vitamins and biotin now as I am rather worried about the hair loss side of things. I also would like to be in a good routine with them as I have other meds I take daily.
I know it is going to be hard, no diet has ever been easy for me. I just cannot stop eating, I will start the day with good intentions. Then eat three packets of crisps at lunch. I want to stop thinking about food, my next meal, how many weeks till Holiday and how much weight can I lose by then - I never lose more than half a stone.
I'm tired and just over the whole thing. I want to have more energy for myself and my kids. I want to do fun things that I avoid because I'm too fat.
I am having my surgery done in the UK as logistically going overseas was a nightmare to organise.
I've joined Instagram as there's a good supportive sleeve community on there. I am doing this for myself and for my health and quality of life.

Luckycloverzz · 13/02/2022 13:54

Hi 👋 I'm new on here and due a sleeve on the 5th of March in the UK. Just hoping to see if anyone has any pre op tips or suggestions? Surgery is in the UK private I've been saving for a long time but can't cope with flying so going abroad not really an option. Excited but nervous

Bloody hell £10,000 I paid £2,650 plus flights They were fantastic 👏
Brindille · 13/02/2022 18:54

I think everyone will make their choices according to the resources they have at their disposal and how comfortable they feel in travelling abroad etc.

It would be a shame if anyone were made to feel criticised for the choices which they've made about where to have the surgery. This has been a wonderfully supportive thread so far.

Starbursts90 · 13/02/2022 19:09

How long do people generally have to wait between seeing their consultant and their surgery date?

MrMrsJones · 13/02/2022 20:21

I guess if people can afford it.

It's a shame the UK is so expensive. If they charged less people would stay here and have it done, I know I would

Brindille · 13/02/2022 20:26

Yes, I totally agree. I think access to this surgery should be much easier, given how significant the health benefits are.

Hi, private will be about 6 weeks from consultation to surgery though depends on how long you need to be on a low calorie diet and your health conditions etc
Luckycloverzz · 14/02/2022 00:36

Will be 6 weeks for me - forgot to add that bit obviously different for every clinic. I need 2 weeks low calories

MrMrsJones · 14/02/2022 08:03

Well it's a week post surgery, I'm home and I have lost 9.3lbs

Glad you are home safe. Hope you are doing ok. Great news on the weight loss. Do you mind me asking how much you want to lose?

Great news you're home, well done on the loss is this since the operation or including pre op diet etc?
MrMrsJones · 14/02/2022 11:23

This is all weight I have lost since I have had the operation. I didn't really do a pre-op diet

I would like to lose about 4/5 stone. I am currently 16.10 and 5 foot 6inches tall.

Fairly similar goals to me.

How are you feeling? Are you able to move around much?

didgeydoo · 14/02/2022 16:15

Im 13 weeks post op now and down 76lbs. Feel amazing! Don’t get me wrong it has its challenges, like my periods are so bad right now but at least they are now regular!

I have so much more energy, I feel really good. Have a king way to go, still wanna loose another 150 lbs but for the first time in my life this feels possible!

Had my surgery at Ekol hospital in Turkey. £2700 and I paid for my own flights.

MrMrsJones · 14/02/2022 16:22

@MagentaRocks

Day 1, 2 and 3 were the worst.

I feel fine, but as my husband said I may feel good on the outside, but I'm healing on the inside.

Your not allowed to lift anything heavier than 6kg, for 3 months.

Thanks. Taking it easy will be the hardest. I am desperate to get back to the gym. But I will go back slowly and not do weights for a while.

Starbursts90 · 15/02/2022 20:33

Hi all
so im really considering all my options for surgery.

I am trying to weight up the pros and cons of staying local to where I live vs traveling 2.5 hours away.

I have spoke to a couple of providers today for a sleeve.
The ones that provide surgery closer to me charge almost £3k more than the place that's 2.5 hours away. On discussion with them, the only real benefit is that I would be closer to the local hospitals for after care and post op consultations but from what I can figure, in todays climate most aftercare and consultations are done virtually now anyway?

Can anyone who has had a sleeve recently advise on how they are finding things post-op with regards to aftercare please?

Also - does anyone know of any aftercare only packages (if any)?

Brindille · 15/02/2022 22:03

Hi @Starbursts90

I had my sleeve through Streamline. They've been good with aftercare.

All consultations have been via zoom, apart from my pre-op, which obviously I had to go to the hospital for.

MrMrsJones · 16/02/2022 13:49

I had mine in Turkey, I haven't needed any aftercare.

But they are on hand if I have any questions
