Okay!

I have my consultation tomorrow! God I’m nervous!

Is there anything I should ask?

Having a gastric sleeve!

DrJump · 16/02/2022 19:09

Hello I’m booked to have a sleeve 7 April.

One thing I am struggling to find is a clear plan for exercise after the surgery. Wondering if anyone has come across something.

I’m trying to lose some weight before surgery by less snacking and more veggies plus upping my exercise. Late last year I did 12 weeks VLCD so I am sort of looking forward to pre op.

Whereismyplate · 16/02/2022 21:13

Hi All, I had weight loss surgery 2 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. My health was really bad and it was the only thing that would help me. I am now 10 stone down but I am struggling with my confidence. It’s so hard to talk to people in my real life about this as they don’t understand, they see I have lost all the weight so I should be happy. Honestly I’m not I think I was more confident when I was 10 stone heavier. I change numerous times if I have no one to look at my outfit and I hate buying new clothes in case people take notice of me. It’s making me feel really down. Has anyone else experienced this and have any advice?

Starbursts90 · 19/02/2022 09:52

Can anyone recommend any suitable multi vitamins for after gastric sleeve surgery please?
I’m googling and there’s so many come up, but don’t want to buy something that may have an impact on the staples etc

Hi, I've bought centrum chewable multivitamins tried them and they chew up well and dissolve fine, I'm hoping it'll feel like a daily treat of something to chewable on 🤣
BuntyCollocks · 20/02/2022 20:17

Hi all, I had a mini gastric bypass earlier this week, and feeling pretty good today! All in all, I’m 18lbs down from 1/2. I feel like I have my life back.

Luckycloverzz · 20/02/2022 22:00

That's great news, I'm glad it went well for you. Did you have surgery in the UK or go abroad?

SayCheeseBoris · 21/02/2022 19:52

I'm a year post op now. Went with GetSlimInTurkey who were fab! The first 2 weeks were horrible for me mentally. I was absolutely fine physically but mentally I was a mess (health anxiety so I was assuming the worst at all times). Food was a bit of an issue for about 10 weeks as I couldn't eat a lot of things or I'd be spitting up but once that settled it's been completely plain sailing and I'm now 11.4 down from 19.4 so would like another stone off, even half a stone would do.

No regrets at all.

I went to Riga. Great experience.

Like a PP, I was recommended Centrum Chewable by a dietician. They’re pricey so look for Boots/ Superdrug 3 for 2 offers. Also, Superdrug do a chewable vitamin but they’re often not in store. You’ll also need Calcium daily and B12 shots every three months - these should be prescribed as part of your aftercare.

Had my pre op assessment yesterday and met my surgeon. He was lovely. He has asked me to start the LRD now, a week early as my stomach felt quite hard (it’s where I carry the most weight). So I weighed myself this morning and am trying to focus on the benefits of doing the LRD for 3 weeks instead of 2.

A couple of the people I saw yesterday for the appointments were surprised at my BMI as they think I carry my weight well and I’m not that big, but it is all about how you feel isn’t it.

I just have one more person to tell about the surgery, I am seeing her on Friday. I haven’t told many people at all. I am also going to be paying the balance on Monday next week. No going back then 😀.

With the LRD they are happy for me to have shakes as well as food as long as I am confident I will stick to the calories which I am, I will be weighing everything and will stick between 800 and 1000 calories a day.

Just need to sort out the tablets I need for after the surgery and buy all the vitamins I need too. Then I am pretty much set, apart from getting some new pyjamas.

I am nervous but I am also excited and excited to see the results.

claire0614 · 27/02/2022 17:15

Has anyone had weight loss surgery with a bmi under 35 I am currently looking into this have spoken with get slim turkey who seem really good and I’ve been given the number of a clinic in Manchester is the much difference to staying in the U.K. to going abroad other than the price any help or advice appreciated x

BelleVale · 28/02/2022 16:25

Hi Claire, my BMI is 35 and I have no comorbidities. I had a consultation in London and also one for surgery in Belgium. The London consultation was very thorough. I spoke to a dietitian and the surgeon. He recommended a gastric sleeve and provided a quote for £10860. The Belgium surgery asked me for a few details: BMI, existing conditions, previous surgeries, did I smoke etc and also recommended a GS. The quote is 6500 euros.

MagentaRocks · 28/02/2022 19:31

Does anyone know of any active on line bariatric support groups? I tried joining a couple off private groups on FB but there was people I know on them so I left as don't feel comfortable.

LJZRBB · 02/03/2022 23:39

Hello all,

Apologies if this has been asked before, the thread is long I can’t catch up.

I am booked in for a sleeve in two weeks. Can anyone tell me how soon after coming off the anaesthetic where you up walking? Could you take yourself to the toilet?

I have never had a general before, this part scares me the most. I was VERY sick all day after my spinal for my c section.

MagentaRocks · 03/03/2022 17:33

@LJZRBB I have mine in 2 weeks too. The paperwork said you are encouraged to move around to go to the toilet etc.

BelleVale · 03/03/2022 18:25

@LJZRBB I've felt very nauseous after previous GAs. If your anaesthetist knows this they can include something to help with this during surgery. I'm very anxious about the nausea too but hopefully the anti-emetics will be on hand but if not I know it will pass. The surgeon I spoke to said the first 24 hours are the toughest but it gets noticeably better each day.

LJZRBB · 03/03/2022 19:04

Thank you both @BelleVale @MagentaRocks and good luck !! X

I have never had a general before, this part scares me the most. I was VERY sick all day after my spinal for my c section.

I had mine at 9.30am, finished at 1pm and they were getting me up at 4pm to walk around.

That day and the day after are the hardest, then it gets better

MagentaRocks · 06/03/2022 17:58

@MrMrsJones how are you getting on?

10 days until my sleeve. Doing ok on the LRD, although it is hard. Especially as I had to do it for longer than 2 weeks, but I keep thinking that it will be worth it.

MrMrsJones · 06/03/2022 18:25

I shall hit week 4 on Monday

I am weighing everyday and put that into my fitness pal, then weigh on a Monday and put that into a different app.

I had my op on Monday 7th Feb and so far I have lost 18.4 lbs.

The first two weeks were hard, I got fed up of protein shakes and wanted real food, week 3 I had steamed fish, mash, hummus, scrambled egg (that make me feel sick) chicken.

I bought a soup maker and throw all veg and chicken in. I don't eat more than 125ml probably eat 5 times a day.

It's confusing because you have to eat protein, drink 1500 squash/water per day, but you can't eat and drink at the same time. You do get used to it.

MrMrsJones · 06/03/2022 18:27

@MagentaRocks

What LRD, is that a pre diet?
I didn't bother really.

10 days will go so quick

MagentaRocks · 06/03/2022 20:31

Yes, the pre op diet to reduce your liver. It is harder to do the op if your liver is too big.

I have been having shakes and food off the diet sheet, between 800 and 1000 calories a day, but sticking nearer to the 800.

I think I will find it hard to not eat and drink at the same time but I am sure I will get used to it.

Well done on the loss. I bet you are happy with that.
