On another thread but not a lot going on there

I need to do something

I am 4 stone overweight

Just tried into get into the last pair of jeans WITH elasticated waist...they don't fit.

I don't want to go up another size AGAIN.

I also don't want to obsess about food.

Also, at the weekend, the hill on our normal walking route was a real struggle.

I don't know how to lose weight cheerfully. My sister wasn't fat, gave up sugar - I mean choc, biccies etc - and lost a load so I guess that's one way! I don't eat that much of it in the first place, she was a choc bar and dessert daily person and still never got fat!

I'll be your weight loss buddy 😃 I've about the same to lose!

Beechview · 02/11/2021 12:27

Instead of thinking what not to eat, try to think what to eat more of. If you commit to eating 5-6 portions of fruit and veg a day plus drinking 8 glasses of water a day, you’ll probably find you don’t eat too much if the crap.
If you start telling yourself to eat more whole grains and lean protein, then you really won’t have much room for snacking.
If you want a snack, tell yourself you can eat your biscuit or whatever you want but only after you’ve had your fruit and water. You’ll probably find you don’t want it anymore, or if you do, you don’t eat as much as you would have.

ApolloandDaphne · 02/11/2021 12:33

I am currently 14st 7lb and really need to be at least 11st although 10st would be better. I had a FFS moment this morning and rejoined WeightWatchers. They are doing 3 months free at the moment for all their plans.

My issue is a lot of snacking, too much wine and poor portion control. I am hoping I can reset and start to lose some weight. I can be your buddy for accountability.

DaisyNGO · 02/11/2021 12:37

Thank you cant

Beech, one reason I'm a bit lost is all that stuff doesn't work for me.

I drink a lot of water but I'm never sure that's a good thing.

We are flat hunting at the moment and I'm all right in the day because I'm obsessed with all of it. Plus there's no one here to eat with.

But in the evening, less so. I might take up knitting or something. I think distraction is key. Organising meals is very dull.

I'm wondering about attempting one meal a day.

magicstars · 02/11/2021 12:38

I need to lose about 2 stone ideally. 1.5 would do.
I find I can eat really well during the day, but fast after about 3pm. So i eat a good size breakfast & lunch. If I'm hungry in the eve I'll have low calorie soup &/or watermelon. I can lose about a pound every 2 days this way. Not calorie counting or denying myself- if there's a treat I really want I can have it early in the day.
Susie Orback 'on eating' is short & useful to read.
Good luck

DaisyNGO · 02/11/2021 12:40

X post
Thanks Apollo

I hope WW is good. I'm probably lucky as I don't like wine.

Magic
soup is a good idea, especially now.

Weight watchers is only free for 3 months if you commit to a 9 month plan.I have 6 stone to lose but have absolutely no willpower, spent thousands over the years, wish I hadn't bothered I'd have the money for weight loss surgery then lol.Ive lost over 4st on about 6 separate occasions but always put back on,calorie counting was always the way I managed to lose but have tried every club, fad, shakes out there.

AmandaHoldensLips · 02/11/2021 12:47

Fucking hell. I just tried on a bikini in a shop. I looked like the Michelin Man in palm-print lycra. I cannot believe the state of my post lockdown body.

Orangetractor · 02/11/2021 13:13

I've just started yesterday using huel, the reason I chose this is it is nutritionally complete and I need the vitamins etc because I find it hard to look after myself. I'm gonna go for twice a day and a meal in the eve. I also have around 4st to lose and am only 5ft 1! I can't commit to all the prep of 3 meals a day, I work shifts and end up eating nothing all day then binging so hopefully the huel will keep me full and I can have a moderate sized dinner. I am counting calories as well, the shakes aren't a magic weight loss aid, just easy to track and full of goodness. I saw the WW offer but I'm going to get through the 3 bags of huel I ordered first and see how I get on.

DaisyNGO · 02/11/2021 13:36

I thought about Huel
I still remember a comedy sketch about it but I realised if I could take food in a pill form, I would do that reasonably often.

I wish I was a person who be interested in salad dressing but I'm simply not.

I've got to do some DIY now and just had crackers and soup for lunch which is probably fine.

OP posts:
DaisyNGO · 02/11/2021 13:38

Oh hang on
I thought Huel was liquid only
There is mac and cheese on the website...!

OP posts:
Orangetractor · 02/11/2021 13:41

They do a hot range, curry flavour, mac and cheese and something else, I haven't tried it though

Mixitupalot · 02/11/2021 13:46

Hi I have about the same to lose. My problem is that I eat a lot and I eat all the time.. I never know when to stop. For example I can eat a three course meal and come home and have tea and biscuits.

So the concept of eat better and you won’t want to snack for me just doesn’t work! I have a very sweet tooth. I lost 2 stone in the first lock down and over the course of the last year have put it all back on again.

I need to go back to the only thing that works for me which is low carb. Maybe you could try the bootcamp on here? That’s what helped me with my weight loss.

DaisyNGO · 02/11/2021 17:39

Mix
That sounds like you're in search of the dopamine hit
Where else can you get dopamine or shoukd be less reliant on that anyway?

I was going to buy one of those dopamine necklaces and call it my dopamine hit, lol

I am going to do a HIIT workout now, argh. I used to love working out but it's harder with the extra weight.

Low carb is def not for me. I need to focus on eating less and no evening snacking. I was actually wondering if I should increase my carbs of an evening. I seem to have spent a long time having healthy protein based dinners, then eating toast and some DC choc at night!

ApolloandDaphne · 05/11/2021 11:02

How are you getting on @DaisyNGO?

I have settled in to WW and have realised my portion sizes were definitely much too big and I snacked too often on terrible foods. I lost 2lb so far which is great!

DaisyNGO · 05/11/2021 11:52

Apollo, that's great
I'm afraid I have been much the same really.

I find it all so tedious.

we are hoping to move so I am thinking that sheer stress might, in theory, remove a few pounds.....

I have resisted chocolate and cake every time I could have had it this week. That's a small start but a good one.

I have still have an issue with eating toast before bed. I haven't yet done the experiment of having a carb based dinner and seeing if it actually ends up a cut in calories, which it might do?

I can't eat huge portions, but if I eat chocolate, that's a disaster, I can just go on and on!

SameToo · 05/11/2021 12:00

I’ve been doing the 16:8 for one week and have lost 2 pounds even though I went out and got twatted on a staff night out 😂

Didn’t do as much exercise as I’d have liked but my eating has gone well.

secretbookcase · 05/11/2021 12:09

I hate dieting so I found exercise was a better incentive. Start with some 5-10 minute HIIT and bodyweight online workouts free on YouTube. Build up to 15-20 minute ones. Also look at some easy yoga ones.

Buy some dumbbells or a kettle bell and look up some easy weight training workouts. Join a bootcamp or a c25K group. I lost a stone just through exercising, without changing my diet at all. It was so lovely to start seeing my old shape emerge and to gain extra strength and energy.

Another thing to do is find healthier or lower calorie versions of what you like. Increase the quantity of veg on your plate and reduce the carbs.

Make a long list of non food treats - anything from a magazine, a face pack or new nail polish, a candlelit bubble bath, a box set of an old comedy series you love etc. Get into the habit of giving yourself one of these treats every time you feel down or angry or stressed or happy and in the mood to celebrate. Start associating comforting your moods with non-food rewards.

Meet friends for a walk not a coffee or a drink. I almost never sit in a pub with a friend any more. It is always a walk through the woods.

DaisyNGO · 05/11/2021 15:12

secret I have exercised consistently throughout my life, hasn't stopped me getting so big.

Definitely an issue of diet for me.

Same I have had a bit of success with that but it means a 3pm start on food. The days it works are great and I feel so much better for it.

I'm going to try that again tomorrow. It should be easy as we've got four properties to view and a long trek either side (I never eat on trains).

OP posts:
SameToo · 05/11/2021 15:21

Why 3pm @DaisyNGO

DaisyNGO · 05/11/2021 15:30

@SameToo

Why 3pm *@DaisyNGO*
Well 16: 8 means you have an 8 hour window for food, have I got that right?

So with an 11pm snack - I am never in bed before midnight - that means a 3pm light lunch.

I must admit, I am often not hungry before then but when working, I get bored. Much easier to deal with at the mo.

OP posts:
SameToo · 05/11/2021 15:45

Ah ok I understand. I do mine 11-7 but go to bed before 10. Might work if you have a protein shake in the morning to tide you over then start food at 3?

DaisyNGO · 05/11/2021 15:48

Doesn't that defeat the mechanics of the fast period though?

I'll see how tomorrow goes, hopefully I can get into a groove. It is so nice when you go hours without feeling like eating.
