Looking for weight loss buddies

Hello,

I have a lot of weight to lose (7st 5lbs in total) .. I previously lost this weight before on the Cambridge diet /1:1 diet and maintained it for 5years but after having a 3rd baby, lockdowns and losing 5 family members in a very short space of time I have unfortunately ended up back at square one. I have been feeling so low and embarrassed about my size and I know it’s time to take control. So I started back on plan yesterday and plan to stay 100% until Christmas Eve, when I will come off for a week and then straight back on plan on the 2nd January until the middle of February when we are going to Florida. I would love to lose 4 stones before we go and would love to buddy up with some people who want to lose weight and motivate each other xx

hi, I'm looking to lose 15 kg and have ballooned during lockdown. I seem to lose a bit and then gain it back over the last year, lockdown has been hard as well but like you I'd like to lose some before Christmas and I am aiming for 1 stone if I can by then. Happy to buddy up with you and others to achieve it. I am looking at doing 800 cals rather than lower as I'd like to increase my exercise as well. I am starting my plan on Tuesday or Wednesday this week as just waiting for my shakes to be delivered! Good luck, I know you will do it!!

Buckydoesafart · 31/10/2021 20:09

Just to add I am also in peri which has made losing weight and exercising difficult but have started hrt patches so hopefully that will help.

bridezillah · 31/10/2021 20:12

I'm looking to loose quite a few stone but all my friends seem to be pregnant so not interested in been a support !x

picklemewalnuts · 31/10/2021 20:18

@StanleyOscar has a thread called 6 stone to lose. He and I have been going great guns- I've lost 5 stone 9lbs in a year. There are a few others along with us. We're friendly! Come and have a look!

6 stone to lose - my journey! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/4256624-6-stone-to-lose-my-journey

hattiesmith · 31/10/2021 20:22

Me ! I'll join you. With it being 1st tomorrow I was going to start. I have the same amount to lose!

ohtwatbollocks · 31/10/2021 20:32

I'll join you OP. I(like any others) have really struggles with lockdown, I've just been discharged from the mental health team and I have about 4 stone to lose, I've lost it before and kept it off for 4 years but I've put it all back on, I need to lose it. But I'm trying to care about myself, trying to look after my skin, drink water a bit more, I'm doing my nails and trying to dress nice. Taking vitamins too. Tomorrow I'll fast from 6pm until 9am every morning because that works well for me. I will listen to my meditation app that I have too.

Eliards2012 · 31/10/2021 21:24

Thank you everyone - hopefully we can all achieve our goals together!

@Buckydoesafart what shakes are you having?

@bridezillah I know the feeling all my friends in real life do not struggle with their weight so it feels so lonely sometimes

@picklemewalnuts well done that’s incredible!! What plan have you followed? Thank you for the link I’ll pop over and a have read later.

@hattiesmith - hello and welcome it feels like a massive journey ahead but I need to make everyday count and start getting the lbs off instead of on! What are you planning to do?

@ohtwatbollocks - sounds like you have a great self care routine in place, does fasting work well for you?

In terms of actual weight loss it never does that much for me but I stop craving lots of rubbish(I've struggled with binge eating a lot) and it makes me feel like I'm more in control. Also lessens the bloating I get a little which is nice.
picklemewalnuts · 31/10/2021 21:33

I've been following SlimmingWorld. It's not everyone's favourite but it's very simple and works for me.

One lady on our thread recommends the 'why we eat' book- there's a thread on here about it. It's about modern diets being hard for us to metabolise correctly, and us getting incorrect satiety messages or something like that- I'm sure I've dumbed it down a lot!

I would say that following a diet plan is only part of the process. You need to have things lined up and organised to make things easier for you. My life until the last couple of years was lined up to make things harder!

Have a think about what's stopping you, and see if you can make some changes around those things.

Also, a diet plan can be 'gamed' or followed in an unhealthy way. You still need to aim for a sensible, healthy diet- just assisted by the framework of your diet plan.

Buckydoesafart · 01/11/2021 09:17

Morning everyone! @Eliards2012 I have previously done Cambridge diet and lost the weight - but have gone with exante shakes - so one for breakfast, one for lunch and then I have 400 cal for dinner - which is low carb. No booze and I’ll be going to the gym once the first week is done as I find that the hardest. I’m doing this within the fast800 method - so once I have shifted the stone will probably do some fasting as well.

Just need the courage to step up on the scales 😩😩 will do that when my shakes have arrived.

I agree with @picklemewalnuts about thinking ahead to normal life and how to manage that - for me it’s overeating and lack of exercise when stressed.. Last year was hard as I lost my job, lockdowns, family issues etc - not an excuse but I got to the point I felt like not getting out of bed! Mentally stronger now and had a family picture on Saturday where I looked like a teletubby! So have to change!

HerRoyalWitchyness · 01/11/2021 09:22

Morning, can I join? I have 10 stone to lose and various disabilities (arthritis, EDS and fibromyalgia)
I've slowly been making changes to my life and feeling much better for it. The weight is something I need support with though.

picklemewalnuts · 01/11/2021 09:27

Sometimes weight feels like the least of your worries. But it is a manageable area to work on, and I do feel better for losing it.

It's the little things- easier to do my shoes up, have a bath without worrying about being able to climb out (shoulder injury and general weakness). Do my coat up comfortably, etc.

Eliards2012 · 01/11/2021 09:40

@picklemewalnuts @Buckydoesafart it really is the little things! for me it’s dealing with stress I overeat as a way of coping, I also don’t sleep well and therefore there is extra hours in my day to eat. I also think drinking the water is huge part of it, if I don’t drink enough then I end up feeling tired and that’s when I’m likely to binge for a sugar hit.

I’ve done exante before but I’m not keen on the products I prefer the Cambridge products but ultimately it’s the same really isn’t it? Do you think fasting would work alongside exante/Cambridge? I don’t know much about it but was wondering if it was worth considering?

@HerRoyalWitchyness hello and welcome … what changes have you made so far? Good luck I can imagine with your disabilities it’s challenging however hopefully we will be able to support you here xx

OP posts:
HerRoyalWitchyness · 01/11/2021 10:12

My changes so far have been making sure to write in my journal each day, do ten minutes of suitable yoga, read or listen to an audiobook every day, being more mindful in general.
Currently can't do the yoga as all of the family has covid! But I'm meditating each day instead so I'm still doing something.

FireflyGirl · 01/11/2021 14:56

Morning, hoping I can join.

DD has just turned one, and I've managed to lose the baby weight from this pregnancy, at least, but I still want to lose another 20-25lb to get down to a 'comfortable' weight.

I'm still breastfeeding, but it doesn't seem to particularly help me to lose weight as it increases my appetite.

Starting weight of 159.4lb, and my aim is to get to 150lb by Christmas, and then the rest off by the end of next March when I'll be back in the office.

I managed to lose weight after DS using MFP with the support of a similar thread to this, so that is my plan this time too. I also plan to post a summary of what I eat every day, to help keep track.

Also hoping DD starts to sleep better, then I can start going to the gym in the morning before DH goes to work.

How's everyone's day going?

Eliards2012 · 01/11/2021 20:13

@FireflyGirl hello and welcome, well done on your weight loss so far! I found that I didn’t lose any weight while breastfeeding, in fact it was the opposite and none of my 3 slept well so it was easy to reach for snacks during the night. I think having a group of like minded people really helps. I will
Join in with you posting a summary of my day each day on this thread so that I am accountable every day.

I’ve had a good day so far / I’ve still got a couple of products to have, I try to fill up on water during the day and then have my products in the evening as that’s when I struggle.

How’s everyone else? What day is everyone’s official weight day?

OP posts:
FireflyGirl · 01/11/2021 20:58

I plan to weigh in on a Sunday, as I go swimming at the gym with DS. I like their scales better than my ones at home Wink

Today I have had:
B: Cherry Bakewell overnight oats, apple
L: leek and potato soup with petit pain, satsuma
D: spag bol, garlic bread, grapes
S: salted crisps, 4 after eight mints, 2 oat cakes

I found today quite difficult - I've gotten in the habit of picking at biscuits during the day when I'm peckish, so my body was craving them. Feel quite proud I managed to just have a couple of oatcakes and some crisps instead. Logging my food definitely helps me think about what I am putting in my mouth!

I input my details into MFP, and it's given me a target of 1300 cals to lose a pound a week.

I've just hit my step target for the day, due mostly to marching DD to sleep earlier, which adds 500 cals. I ignored these when I lost weight with MFP before, but I think 1300 cals is too low for me, especially as I'm breastfeeding and don't want my milk supply to drop.

Total cals for today 1595, I'm happy with that Grin

Rolo104 · 01/11/2021 21:10

I have 3 stone to lose, all put on over lockdown! Started the veggie keto diet today and am excited to see how it goes. Have enjoyed eating the high fat foods all day and will be interested to see whether eating so much cream and cheese actually makes me lose weight. If so, it'll be nothing short of a miracle!

FireflyGirl · 01/11/2021 21:28

I'm a bit jealous, @Rolo104. DD has a dairy intolerance, I haven't had proper cheese since February!!

Are you vegetarian? DH and I had cut our meat consumption right down, but between lockdown/lack of sleep/boredom with the same recipes/not being able to eat dairy, I've reverted to things that are tasty but simple to make, which for me means meat based.

Eliards2012 · 02/11/2021 07:07

@Rolo104 - eating cheese and losing weight will be incredible! Good luck i’ll be watching your weigh ins with interest Smile

@FireflyGirl - my son has a milk allergy, so I hear you I also had to cut all dairy out when I was breastfeeding and to be honest due to his allergy we have remained pretty much dairy free as it’s just easier for us all to adapt. His allergy can be life threatening so we just don’t take any risks. Looks like you’ve had a great day! Is there an option on MFP for breastfeeding?

My summary for yesterday (sorry it’s late I fell asleep last night)

  • 2 x Cambridge bars
  • 1 x chocolate shake
  • 3.5litres of water
(I am supposed to have 4 products but I fell asleep and didn’t have the 4th) My weigh day is Saturday, today is day 4 so I’m Hoping it will start to get a bit easier from today although saying that my head is in the right place So it hasn’t been too much of a struggle so far.

Rolo104 · 02/11/2021 10:41

Weight myself this morning after 1 day of keto and I'm 3 pounds down already. Probably mostly water weight but still encouraging!
Yesterday I ate:
Home made Gouda keto crackers
Peanuts
Halloumi and pesto salad
Raspberries
Strawberries and cream
Veggie shepherds pie with cheesy cauliflower mash.
All delicious and somehow allowing me to lose weight!!!

FireflyGirl · 02/11/2021 21:25

That's a great start, Rolo, well done 👍

Look at all that cheese 😭

Today was easier than yesterday in terms of avoiding the snacks, even though we went out to baby class yesterday and today we were mostly at home.

We're out most of the day tomorrow, probably won't get home between school runs, so I've done us packing up to eat while we're out. Fingers crossed it stops me stuffing my face when I get home, or picking something up while we're out.

B: Cherry Bakewell overnight oats
L: leek and potato soup with a roll
D: steak, chips, asparagus and mixed veg
S: 1 oatcake, some Biscoff biscuits

I've come in under my calories, even without the additional ones I get from my Fitbit for exercise, so I'm pleased with that for day 2.

How's your day been Ellards?

Rolo104 · 02/11/2021 21:40

Yes, I'm veggie so the meat eating keto is not an option.

Eliards2012 · 02/11/2021 22:28

Evening all,

@Rolo104 the veggie shepherds pie with cheesy cauliflower mash sounds delicious!! That’s a great loss so far, it’s so motivating to see the scales coming down!
@FireflyGirl - another great day for you!! And packing up is a great idea for staying on track! I always think half of the battle is in the planning - when I’m organised it’s so much easier.

I’ve had a good day - (sneaky weigh in this is morning is looking positive so that’s motivated me more), I definitely feel like my head is in the game this time - I feel so much better even though I’m only on day 4 - this morning I woke up way before my alarm went off I felt so refreshed and ready for the day compared to feeling sluggish and tired. I had some more products delivered this afternoon so I’ve got a bit more choice now which will help, I’ve still got one more product to have shortly then I’ll do my update for today.
