I've had a rough few years with IVF, inevitably I've gained weight through stress, hormones and all the shit that goes with it. My weight has crept up to over 73kg. I used to be around 64kg, lightest was 58kg. I used to be a muscular, lean size 8. I'm now a strong, curvy size 10. (41, 167cm)
The person I dislike most in the world texted me this .....
'It's laughable how much weight you've put on. You've always been ugly inside and out, but at least you had your enviable figure as leverage to get your own way. Now you don't even have that'
For weeks this has eaten away at me, I shouldn't let it upset me but it does. This week however something has clicked and I want to use this as motivation to drop the comfort Kg's.
Main issues are irregular eating
Too much wine
Not enough sleep
Starving myself, then eating too much
Over indulging on the weekend.
Anyone fancy keeping me company?

Oh, I look like a rugby player, lol.

AndTime · 28/10/2021 09:18

@Finfintytint you are right in the middle of a healthy BMI not even overweight never mind obese.

I am the same height and weight as you and a size 6-8 I do weight training so may have slightly more muscle but we are both absolutely a healthy weight.

Finfintytint · 28/10/2021 09:23

AndTime, thank you. It knocked my confidence a bit. I do lots of swimming and have an outdoor role that involves lifting and carrying heavy equipment and walking around a good deal ( 10k steps a day).
I’m quite muscular so I must be just heavy not fat.

Chocaholic9 · 28/10/2021 09:25

@Finfintytint

I’ve had some feedback today that I’m bordering on obese. Really upset. It came from a nurse at a blood pressure clinic. I’m 5’2 and nine stone. I need to lose another one and a half stones. I feel I look ok. I’m a size eight to ten ( although I know vanity sizing exists) but at 54 years I thought I was doing ok….was a size 18 several years ago.
I am 5ft and used to be 9 stone. I was also told I was obese and I agree it is upsetting to be told this.

I managed to get down to 7 stone but it took me years to do.

It sounds like you are making great progress.

Chocaholic9 · 28/10/2021 09:26

Also, one downside of losing weight that no one tells you about...you get cold a lot more!

Hollyhead · 28/10/2021 23:47

Hi, I’m struggling this week, think I’ve got some ovulation water retention going on which is really annoying. Hoping to lose at least something this week! Going to be sensible over the weekend too. Keep going everyone Smile

ShipwreckSunset · 29/10/2021 00:09

Can I join you? Similar size to some of the other posters, 170cm and 72kg. Would love to lose z5 kg but would be v happy to get to under z70 to start with!

Hop27 · 29/10/2021 09:38

Welcome @ShipwreckSunset !
Keep your head up @Hollyhead, don't be too hard on yourself !

Will be a bad day today as at Legoland and eating snacks as we go but will be back on it from this weekend.

AndTime · 29/10/2021 12:51

Bad day here too - 1.3kg gain despite sticking to a deficit, ended up binging yesterday and getting a 500calorie surplus but over the week still a deficit.

I know it's hormone related water retention but it is just so disheartening.

Hollyhead · 30/10/2021 11:25

I’m just bouncing around and not losing or gaining (which is good). I think I need to step up a few things this week. Doesn’t help I just had a cake for breakfast!

I just calculated your BMI and it’s 23.2.

Overweight is bmi over 25 and obese is over 30.

You are nowhere near obese!

AuldFox · 30/10/2021 11:51

@Chocaholic9 you weren’t obese at 9 stone either. At 7 stone you are nearing underweight BMI. who are these people telling perfectly healthy weight people that they are obese?! They are hideously misinformed and I hope aren’t healthcare professionals!

AuldFox · 30/10/2021 11:52

@Hop27 you’re doing great, what a total cunt that person was to say that to you!

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/10/2021 15:20

Wow - that person is no loss to you! May I join the conversation please? I've managed to put on 8kg in just over a year though some of it (🙏) should be muscle as I've been doing lots of training. Last weekend I decided to buy a slightly too small dress for a special occasion instead of the next size up which fit better. Risky, but it was expensive and has given me the kick Zi needed to get my backside in gear. My trainer at the gym has set me calories and macros and I've got five weeks. If I can lose 5kg in that time I'll be delighted.

ShipwreckSunset · 30/10/2021 19:58

@WeAreTheHeroes that sounds like excellent motivation!

I started logging on MFP again today, aiming to keep to 1400 cal but find the process of logging everything helps identify where I am going wrong.

Also established where I am at in terms of power on Zwift, not great but it sets a baseline to work from.

Hop27 · 31/10/2021 23:13

@WeAreTheHeroes love the motivation and welcome !
New week everyone, step away from the Halloween treats 🎃 👻 How is it November already?!
This is the week I'm going to get under 70! Sitting on 70.4kg this morning.
And yes to those that brought up that complete bitch, she is. Easily one of the most bitter and spiteful idiots I have ever crossed paths with. Everytime I feel like stopping I see her smug face laughing at me. It is priceless motivation.
How is everyone doing?

I started last Monday and the PT at the gym set my calories on Saturday (pretty much what I had set myself). Sunday and yesterday I didn't stick to them, but I have already lost some weight. Now it's stopped raining I feel more like going out for a walk so might do that at lunchtime.

WeAreTheHeroes · 02/11/2021 08:24

I wasn't way off the calories btw, it's still important to log everything because the best way to stay on track is to make sure you average the same and have a deficit over the week.

wetpebbles · 02/11/2021 10:27

Ditch the carbs as they hold onto water

Carbohydrates, or carbs, also cause the body to store extra water. When we eat carbs, the energy that we do not use right away is stored as glycogen molecules. Each gram (g) of glycogen comes with 3 g of water attached.

WeAreTheHeroes · 02/11/2021 22:20

Doesn't matter how you do it, you need a calorie deficit to lose weight. Drinking plenty of water actually helps too. A lot of very low calorie/crash diets have impressively quick results to start with, but it's usually water that people lose and it's not sustainable.

ShipwreckSunset · 03/11/2021 08:37

Spoke to the PT who has confirmed 1400 cals as a good place for me to start, but has also split into protein, carbs and fat. I am way over on the carbs and under on protein so need to address that.

Hollyhead · 07/11/2021 13:18

Hi everyone, how’s it going @Hop27

Finally after 3-4 weeks of being sensible I seem to be 1kg down and clothes look and feel better. It’s just the motivation I needed and motivated me to have just soup for dinner last night instead of a normal Saturday night feast! I still have Friday as a treat night, so I don’t get too deprived. Goal for this week is to make sure this is maintainable and then hopefully progress towards the next KG will come.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 07/11/2021 13:33

Who the fuck would send a text like that! What a nasty individual! Glad you have blocked and good luck with the weight loss plan.

Hop27 · 07/11/2021 23:51

Hope everyone is good! I am stuck on 70.6, but I have been training hard and notice a difference in my overall shape. Hopefully this will be the week I get under 70. I really want a new bikini for Christmas, so using that as motivation. DH has joined in and annoyingly is dropping kg's with ease and looking amazing.
Might be brave enough for some progress pics .... maybe Grinanyone else feeling brave?
