Has anyone had a gastric band or balloon fitted . Would you be willing to share your experience.
Also if anyone has gone abroad to have it done I'd love to hear your experience.

Thanks

Both the balloon and the band have an extremely high complication rate and the NHS doesn't offer them in most trusts. I've had a gastric sleeve, which is similar to a band but without the band itself. I've lost 5.5st in 6 months (need to lose another 1.5st) and it's been life changing. I still enjoy food but portions are minuscule and I can live my life without sore joints/tiredness/breathlessness.

I went with a company called Tonic, but there are plenty who go abroad. Join 'The friendliest gastric sleeve/bypass' group on Facebook for advice on surgeons

I paid for a band 3 years ago , it was a total and utter waste of money , has done me more harm than good and I am the same weight I was when I had it fitted

If I liked large portions but ate healthily it may have been better
As an emotional over eater it was a big mistake
It was easy to trough ice cream sweets cakes biscuits - no problem at all
However even a medium size morsel of any of the following would have me retching in agony
Bread / rice / pasta / certain vegetables/ certain meats /
So on occasions where I would try to eat well and be sensible would end in me just scoffing a pack of biscuits with tea as it was easier
I have vomited in every cafe in my local town
My family refused to go anywhere with me if food was involved
I should have spent the 5 grand on therapy for the issues that make me turn to crap food

I finally had all the liquid removed 5.5 mls so not overfilled and am now stuck with it as I cannot afford to have it removed

My stomach looks as if I was stabbed 5 times to Edward Scissorhand

I seriously wouldn't recommend this to anyone but I am sure there have been success stories out there too

The band and balloon aren’t seen as the best options now - the gastric sleeve and bypass (full or mini) are now seen as the gold standard. There’s loads of us who’ve had surgery on this thread and can answer questions about things post surgery.
