Hello,

From tomorrow I'm starting calorie counting but wanted some other views and advice on what I can do to be a lot more healthier?

Any tips etc, so far can only thing of having at least 3L of water a day but even this I'm unsure if that's correct?

Thank you!

You don’t need 3l of water. 2 is plenty.

For me, eating a large variety of veg every day is the key. That helps keep less good food off the plate.

Building in exercise is really good, even though it doesn’t really impact weight loss. It’ll make you feel great and help you maintain when you hit your goal.

Don’t aim too low with calories-be realistic about what will work for your lifestyle.

Don't eat ultra processed food; try and avoid anything you couldn't buy in a farm shop. Eat meat and fish, salad and veg. Eat full fat dairy and avoid diet foods. Read ingredients lists - if you see an ingredient you wouldn't expect to find in a normal kitchen don't eat it.

Look up recipes and get into cooking.

For calorie tracking, remember to count calories in sauces, cooking oils, dressings and drinks. If you don't have a food scale, get one - it can be surprising to see what a portion size really is.

Log your planned meals in in advance, where it's possible - this will help you see if you need to shave some calories off a meal, or if you can actually have a bigger helping of something :)

For non-food stuff - increase your activity. This can be small, like phone calls while walking around, increasing the trips you need to make up and down stairs. I saw a really good tip about drinking from a small glass as you'll need to keep walking to the tap to re-fill it!

Not getting enough sleep has been shown to have a negative impact on weightloss. A lack of sleep triggers hormones that make your body store and/or hold on to fat. It also affects your self-control and will make it much more likely that you turn to calorific treats. So making sure you get enough sleep is not a bad place to start!

Totally agree about sleep. I sometimes suffer with insomnia and the day after I just want to eat junk food all day.
