Weight loss while breastfeeding?????!!!!!!!

Hi all

3 months post partum. Exclusively breastfeeding my first child. Always been a size 8 with flat stomach. I now have a fat belly that won't seem to shift!! I was under the impression that breastfeeding helps weight loss - it most definitely hasn't helped mine. I feel Horrendous. I fit into NOTHING. I am not willing to stop breastfeeding just because of my upset towards my appearance, though it really is getting me down. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do? Or when I should expect to lose the belly?

Thnks all! Xxx

Don't pressure yourself!! You're only three months PP, nobody is expecting you to be the teeny size 8 you were before. Also, your stomach will probably never go back to exactly what it was before. But that's okay. You carried a baby for 9 months! I EBF with my second and I did find the weight came off quicker than with my first, but I also did calorie count. I didn't restrict myself of anything I fancied, especially during those long sleepless nights but I did watch what I ate a bit more on those days where I did have time to cook/generally have more than 5 seconds to myself. I doubt breastfeeding has anything to do with you not losing weight so definitely don't stop x

No it doesn’t, I never lost weight whilst breastfeeding, I gained because I was hungry all the time, the hv told me not to even bother trying to lose weight whilst bf 🙄

I EBF both my children for 9 months and both times I lost weight and was back in my pre pregnancy clothes well before DC were 6 months old. I did not actively diet. I did walk everywhere pushing the pram, so maybe that helped too.

For me, weight loss during breastfeeding turned out to be impossible. I was absolutely starving all the time!
Weight loss began after I stopped breastfeeding and it wasn't any effort. Think my body held everything in store whilst it was being called upon to provide food for baby. Sorry.

Losing weight and breastfeeding was the biggest disappointment ever.

I am very overweight, I didnt gain much in pregnancy though, in fact it was the only time in my life I struggled to gain it. Once the kids were born I was usually lighter than prepregnancy by a few pounds.

I was really hopeful that I might shift some of the weight exclusively breastfeeding my massive babies, having heard stories of weight dropping off without dieting but no as soon they were born and I was breastfeeding the weight started going up again.

Then when I stopped breastfeeding, absolutely nothing changed, it was still a struggle to lose any weight at all. Gutted.

I did join SW when my 3rd was 6wks and lost a good deal of weight, but I did have to follow it strictly, so breastfeeding wasn't any help at all.

Can you tell I'm bitter 🤣

I lost weight while breastfeeding a very hungry baby, but it didn't start coming off till about 5-6 Mo pp iirc. But off it came! I was thinner after having DC than I was before I fell pregnant and I wasn't exactly massive then either.

But the problem with that was that I developed a huge appetite and ate all the crap of the day which I never would have even had in the house before, because I could and I was always hungry! Of course, the minute I stopped breastfeeding it all came piling on as the eating habit was so ingrained but my little calorie burner wasn't happening anymore! Also a little bitter HmmWink

It does for some and not for others.
With DS1 all the weight dropped off and continued to drop.
With DS2, it seemed to be slower probably because I was eating more crap. Ironic too as he was a far greedier baby than DS1.
Eat healthy and when you decide to stop nursing you’ll probably find your weight adjusts to it’s normal range.

I lose weight during pregnancy and gain a lot of weight the first year of breastfeeding. The second year the weight gain slows down and I start to lose weight and appetite the day I stop breastfeeding.

I waited until baby was 18 month before I did something about my tummy. I was too tired before.

Breastfeeding made the weight stick with me, when I stopped I didn't alter my diet, it was relatively healthy while breastfeeding anyway and I already walked about 7miles with the pram most days but the first month I stopped I lost 11lbs. Everyone is different though and some people lose really well while breastfeeding.
