How long did it take for people to notice your weight loss

Over the last 4 months or so, I've lost 26lbs so far. I still have around 26lbs left to lose. It has been tough, and I have pcos which has made it harder. I don't think I look any different when I look in the mirror and when looking at old photos. DP says he can definitely notice it, but he does have to hear me going on about it all the time when I manage to lose a bitGrin

How long did it take for people to start noticing your progress? I feel like I just want to know that I look different after all my hard work and that I don't look like the big fat lump that I did beforeGrin

I haven't lost any yet! Just wanted to say well done!!

Wombat64 · 20/08/2021 13:17

About 2 stone. If you need reminders, take progress pics, it can help with motivation, depending on how you feel about them. Probably best to concentrate on health & other intrinsic reasons for losing fat tho. Not everyone will notice & it's not as important or difficult to them as you.

Wombat64 · 20/08/2021 13:18

And yes, well done. I've lost 5lb in 12 weeks on a supervised diet & that was hard enough.

Daisy62 · 20/08/2021 13:30

You’ve done brilliantly! Other people won’t notice so much as most people are mainly concerned with themselves and don’t notice the detail of other people. Don’t let it put you off. It might also be that they think they shouldn’t comment - I tend not to, unless it seems that the person is looking for praise. In case it looks like I’ve been judging them for being overweight, or in case they hear “you were really fat” when someone comments enthusiastically on their weight loss, or in case it’s interpreted as women should be a particular size/shape. I actually don’t like people commenting if I lose weight as it makes it clear I needed to!

Winceybincey · 20/08/2021 13:38

Depends how overweight you are. I’ve found with people I know who are really overweight to start with, I don’t notice until they’ve lost a good few stone. With those who are only slightly overweight I’d notice a stone. I’m trying to lose baby weight and I’m wearing baggy, loose clothes until I’ve lost atleast a stone and a half as I know I’ll feel disappointed if I see someone and they don’t comment that I’ve lost weight 😂

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 20/08/2021 14:23

Agree that I avoid commenting on people's weight as it's a bit of a minefield. Some people will hear "you've lost weight" as "you used to be a porker" even if that's not the case. So maybe people are noticing but keeping that thought to themselves.

bigbaggyeyes · 20/08/2021 14:27

It was when I started to wear clothes that fit my new weight. I wore my old clothes and altered them, wore belts to keep the cost down, no one really commented. But as soon as I bought clothes that fit my new size, ones I wanted to wear rather than trying to cover my problem areas, people then started to comment

memememe · 20/08/2021 15:01

was at about 3 stone for me that people started to notice. well done with your loss. keep it up!

ditavonteesed · 20/08/2021 15:07

I was about 3 stone and now they won't shut up about it which actually gets old. I also second when I got clothes that fitted me. Well done. Keep at it.

StarttoFinish · 20/08/2021 15:10

People are always telling me I've lost weight, even when I haven't, but that's because they think I'm too thin.

I think if you're still obviously overweight they'll be nervous about commenting on your weight at all for fear of saying the wrong thing. For some reason no one worries about that when you're thin!

Howyoualldoworkme · 20/08/2021 15:18

I've lost 5 stone and my neighbour eventually asked me if I'd lost weight!
She said she didn't like to say anything in case I was ill Shock
I lost the weight over two years and look quite well so there you are.

M0rT · 20/08/2021 15:27

If you've lost 26lb people will have noticed they may just not be sure about commenting, especially if you are still planning to lose more so haven't done the whole wardrobe refresh people do when they lose a significant amount of weight on purpose.
Congratulations on how well your doing by the way, you should be proud of yourself it's hard going. Flowers

Mylee · 20/08/2021 15:30

Thanks everyone! I hadn't thought of people not wanting to comment but that's a very good point. I gained it very quickly due to being ill, so maybe people have noticed but haven't wanted to mention it just in case

Ive lost almost 5 stone and people are only just noticing! I have loads left to lose though.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 20/08/2021 15:53

Yes, 26lbs is a really big loss and people will definitely have noticed but will not want to say. Some think it’s the equivalent of saying that they thought you were fat before, so it’s quite a nice thing really. But it’s a massive achievement OP, well done!

Spodge · 20/08/2021 17:48

People started commenting after I'd lost about 2 stone. Without fail those were people in the gym, who saw me in tight fitting gym gear every day. Outside of the gym it was at about 3 stone.

As others have said, people tend to be very careful about making comments.

Mylee · 20/08/2021 19:55

@WeeFae that’s amazing well done! How long has that taken you?

KimchiJjigae · 20/08/2021 20:05

4 stone for me. I was BMI 39, am now BMI 29 and in the last few weeks a lot of people have commented that I've lost weight.

The funny thing is, I've most commonly been the weight I am now, as the weight gain was post partum followed directly with lockdown weight but it's come off different places, so I look slimmer overall than before which I think is what people are noticing.

Serenschintte · 20/08/2021 20:08

Wow that’s fantastic! I think a lot of ppl are so absorbed in their lives. They don’t notice much.
Can I ask what you did? Also have PCOS and find if so hard to lose weight

Mylee · 20/08/2021 20:59

@Serenschintte I eat a lot of protein and fruit and veg, and I’ve swapped white carbs for wholemeal, so I have wholemeal pasta/rice and hardly ever have bread. I also do 16/8 fasting, so only eat between 12-8pm as it helps my insulin resistance. A typical day for me is a protein shake and a banana, some kind of salad or something with salad for lunch and then a low-ish carb tea with a yoghurt and an apple after. I haven’t been doing any exercise yet but I’m going to start including that soon

I’m usually oblivious, and wouldn’t comment even if I did notice.
My mother in law can accurately spot a 1lb change either way.
