I am 18'2 on the scales today and starting Fast 800 (again lol)

I've had two black coffee's, a tea with oat milk and water so far today.

12 noon, melon and a pepperami
2pm 2 x devilled eggs and a handful of cherry tomatoes
Dinner will be creamed spinach and mushrooms with granary melba toast

If I'm still hungry I'll have an apple and aim not to eat after 8pm

A great first day! I’ve been doing Fast 800 for about a month and have lost a stone. I’ve had a few days off but have still been really mindful about what I’m eating. Sugar cravings have pretty much gone now. It’s definitely a great programme for a kick start. Think I’m going to do another couple of weeks and the move to 5:2. How long are you planning to stay on Fast800?

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 09/08/2021 17:39

What's this? I need to lose 1.5 stones and would love it to happen fast! Good luck OP, it sounds like a great first day!

TooTiredToBeCreative · 09/08/2021 17:46

It was developed by Dr Michael Mosley, basically you stick to 800 calories a day for between 3 and 12 weeks- adopting a Mediterranean style of eating. Avoid sugar and processed foods. Fat is not the enemy!
Also encouraged to restrict eating window so your body has enough time to Fast. I think he recommends an 8 hour window although I tend to stick to 6.
Once you’ve done the Fast 800, you can move to 5:2- which is 5 normal days and 2 days at 500/800 cals.
The book is really informative , I’ve simplified it here but the science behind it all is very interesting.

Ooh, you should check out my thread here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/4306138-Accountability-thread-14-days-of-Fast800

I’m on day 17 today and loving it. I know it says 14 days in the title but I’m going to go for 21. Maybe even 28 because I’m still a few kilos from healthy BMI and maybe I should just push for that. Once you get in the swing of things it’s great. I haven’t weighed for a while because I always bloat before my period and I don’t want to be disappointed but I will do soon. I’d already lost 5 lbs in the first week and am rarely hungry. The first few days aren’t fun but after day 5, it gets lots better.

If anyone has any questions, just ask me.

SpottyBumPony · 10/08/2021 20:43

Thanks all, name change as I thought I had done it before.

Work today, I got hungry around 11 but had a black coffee. My lunch break was at 12 but I had jobs to do so didn't eat until I got back at 1pm.

Lunch was turkey pieces, a knob of feta, red pepper houmous, cherry Tom's, celery and melon.

I've just finished dinner (late toddler bed time!) Cauliflower Sambal and a Coconut Banoffee pot

SpottyBumPony · 11/08/2021 20:38

Lunch was at 1, cheddar, tomatoes, apple crackers and melon.

I've just eaten dinner, a low GI pitta bread with spinach, avocado, tomatoes, spring onion, red pepper , feta and some Chipotle paste.

I went to a lovely far shop and bought some beautiful veg, I really struggled not to eat the treats for DS and DH but I was able to say not today, maybe tomorrow.

I started this on Monday. Can I check something, the yoghurt is supposed to be full fat natural yoghurt or full fat unflavoured Greek yoghurt right???

mcdog · 11/08/2021 20:42

Oh, and are avocados a yes or a no??

Ontherebound34 · 11/08/2021 20:47

@mcdog

They’re a yes! They are low in carbs but high in fibre and good fats and will keep you full for longer.

Either but Fage 5% or Yeo Valley Kerned Yoghurt both have about 10% protein which is way higher than other types so I always choose these.
SpottyBumPony · 12/08/2021 08:32

I wouldn't worry about types of yoghurt myself. Just focus on higher fats and protein, veg, lower sugar fruit

SpottyBumPony · 12/08/2021 08:53

I'm feeling a bit spacey today, I was hungry when I woke so have had a oat milk latte (I don't drink cows milk)

I've two boiled eggs, apple, banana and melon packed for my lunch and am planning on steak for dinner

Ontherebound34 · 12/08/2021 09:47

Yeah, definitely remember the spaced out feeling at the start. It definitely goes away after a while on the diet.

mcdog · 12/08/2021 18:48

Had Greek style Turkey burgers tonight. For the husband and boys I put them in a bun with fries and salad. I had the burger chopped into a salad.

What is everyone's thoughts on sundried tomorrow's?

mcdog · 12/08/2021 18:49

Tomatoes! Not tomorrow's 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

SpottyBumPony · 13/08/2021 20:21

Well today went up the spout. Grin

I had a KFC rice box for lunch with plans to have a light tea. When I got home DH looked at me with puppy dog eyes and said ... Papa John's? I restrained myself though, a few potato tots, bit bits of medium pizza and I left some crusts. Some cookie.

I'd normally eat half of everything and stuffed crusts

Hekatestorch · 14/08/2021 08:41

Hi, please can I join in.

I let myself go. Completely, pandemic, getting sick, work stress etc all just had me binge eating every night.

I have some recipe books and hoping to start tomorrow. But everyone in RL keeps telling me I will ruin my metabolism.

Not sure I can stick to it but I need to do something. I am miserable about my weight.

I don’t think you’re on it for long enough for it to ruin your metabolism. It’s a few weeks of eating low calories and your body isn’t starving - it’s eating your body fat and there’s enough there to keep most people going for a while. The scientific studies mentioned in the book suggest that long-term, the weight is more likely to stay off than on a ‘traditional’ diet. There is some suggestion that low calorie diets over a prolonged period can affect someone’s metabolism (eg the Biggest Loser contestants) but that is a very restrictive diet where the contestants do eat carbs but very little food and do intense amounts of exercise that could never be sustained in real life. There’s also a big difference between someone with a couple of stone to lose and people who are super-morbidly obese. It is quite unrealistic to expect someone who has been very very obese to suddenly maintain a low weight because their bodies are likely to overproduce hunger-hormones.

For me, I know that the one thing that sabotages me is binge eating high fat, high carb foods like pizza, chocolate, chips etc. If I didn’t consume these to gross excess and just ate normally (like I do most of the time) I would never have been overweight. The cravings are triggered predominantly by carbs and having ‘just a little’ doesn’t work for me. I can’t do moderation - I have to avoid these foods full stop. On low carb, I don’t get the cravings I’d get eating high carb/sugary food.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do!

mcdog · 15/08/2021 19:27

Can anybody help with milk products? For example, the cappuccino I like has 6.9g of carbs all of which are sugars. Is this ok or not?

Is there a % we should be aiming for or anything??

Hekatestorch · 15/08/2021 19:42

@Ontherebound34 so sorry. Just seen this.

Yeah, I agree. I don't believe it will ruin my metabolism. Its just frustrating to hear. Dp really wants to help, but his healthy eating is chicken and rice 4 times a day. We both used to be body builders. I couldn't do the chicken rice thing now and I have no time to work out twice a day, 6 days a week.

But he thinks that eating just works for everyone. He never was interested in yeb science. Just ate what he was told and it worked. Grin

I am definitely doing it. I am set up starting tomorrow. Really looking forward to it as I just feel crap. I have eaten healthy for the last few days. Just not fast 800, iyswim.

But that you for the advice and help. Flowers

Hekatestorch · 15/08/2021 19:43

And thank @mcdog for bumping this so I could see it Smile
