Just ordered 5 weeks' supply of Saxenda

Early last year I came to the decision that I was going to go on the waiting list for weight loss surgery. At that time I was over 21st at 5'7" having put on 3 stone since having my daughter (and being overweight my entire life). Unfortunately my DH passed away suddenly in October last year and so now weight loss surgery is off the cards - I have nobody to look after my DD for the recovery period and I also wouldn't take the risk as I'm now her only parent.

I've managed to lose 2st, mostly through grief-related not eating, but have totally plateaued and can't see how I can go any further alone. I don't know if I have a messed up metabolism or if my PCOS has impacted me more than I think but even on a 1200 cal a day diet 6 days a week (the 7th I have a takeaway and a glass of wine) I'm stuck, so I need some help. Hence the Saxenda.

Has anyone else seen any success with it? If it works I will use the savings I had set aside for WLS to fund a 12 month course which will hopefully get me nearer to my goal of achieving a healthy BMI.

How long does a 'pen' last? How many pens is 5 weeks supply? I can't figure it out!

MissCherryCakeyBun · 14/07/2021 19:47

Hope this helps
To start with the first pen lasts you 17 days the next 5 pens pens last you 6 weeks by then you will be on the full dose
Then 5 pens last you 30 days

I found the info here www.privatedoc.com/medication/saxenda/how-long-does-a-saxenda-pen-last

@Uniformicorn my post didn't tag you for some reason but I've popped up the answer

Uniformicorn · 14/07/2021 19:55

Very helpful, thanks @MissCherryCakeyBun it's a pricey option then, looks like circa £250 a month?

pinkpantsrock · 14/07/2021 19:57

What is it / how does it work?

linerforlife · 14/07/2021 20:15

Hi op search for a thread on here called Saxenda journey all welcome - there's lot of us Smile I'm on week 3 and I've lost half a stone (despite being TOTM last week!) so far. I was 20st at my biggest, and 17st 9lb when I started saxenda. It's a great tool if you're committed to losing weight. Good luck!

peachgreen · 14/07/2021 23:48

@uniformicorn Yes it definitely is pricey. I have savings set aside - if it works, I'll use them. I'm sick of living like this.

On the bright side I've been on a low calorie diet since ordering and have lost 4lbs! So fingers crossed they just make that even easier.

Thank you @linerforlife I'll search that out!

please stop with the drugs,
sort out your gut microbes first, if your gut is not functioning correctly, nothing else works well in your body. then get your lymphatic system running
overhaul your diet. eat protein with every meal.
keep your muscle mass and improve on it. muscle burns fat.
extreme calorie counting is not sustainable and buggers up the metabolism

peachgreen · 15/07/2021 00:05

looool okay, as if I haven't already tried everything under the sun in my 25 years of dieting. This is the step before WLS for me. If eating protein with every meal and taking a probiotic had helped I wouldn't be at this stage!

Following with interest OP.
Can I ask, how much did it cost you?

peachgreen · 29/07/2021 00:48

It was £350 for 5 pens. I'm still on the lowest dose so not even halfway through the first one. Started on the 14th and have lost 10lbs with absolutely no hunger pangs or cravings whatsoever, despite sticking to a 1000 cal a day limit.

notapizzaeater · 29/07/2021 00:54

@peachgreen that's quite expensive, there's groups on Facebook you can join, IIRC I paid about 250 for 5 pens (also lost my DH in Jan)

I've lost 4 stone with it. Message me if you want to chat 🙂

peachgreen · 29/07/2021 15:48

Thanks @notpizzaeater! I'm on the Facebook group but couldn't see it any cheaper anywhere annoyingly! Will have a better hunt around. Congratulations on your weight loss, that's amazing! And so sorry about your DH. What a shit time. Will DM you now x
