B: bacon, tomatoes on a tesco folded flatbread. It has wheat but only 17 carbs. These were my weekend treats when I was LCing
L: Half a Burrata
D: Sirloin steak, jacket potato & homemade coleslaw with homemade mayo followed by Oppo salted caramel ice cream
Oops but it's the standard 'start of the weekend meal and it was lush.

Re the rapeseed, I think you have to read between the lines. EVOO is OK because the 3 to 6 ratio is better than veg oils and because it's not refined. According to the book veg oils are refined and have a bad 3 to 6 ratio. However rapeseed oil does actually have a good 3 to 6 ratio but it's normally found down on the bottom shelf along with the cheap sunflower and veg oil - this stuff is refined. However over the last couple of years cold-pressed rapeseed had made an appearance. I can't for the life of me figure out why this wouldn't be on-plan. I've read quite a bit around this subject even before the book and I can't see why it isn't the UK's version of Olive Oil.

badlydrawncat and catherine thanks very much. I agree. Let the mayo experiments commence!

Benvolio · 02/07/2021 22:38

I had a huge tub of strawberries all to myself today, no such thing as 'too many' in season! I think they are v low GI anyway.

Well exactly, got to make the most of them. Tomorrow - cherries!
Benvolio · 02/07/2021 23:25

I adore cherries too. Always have a packet in the freezer. Fresh ones are so expensive, but I think I deserve some tomorrow too.

Words · 03/07/2021 07:01

Definitely strawberries and cherries on my list for the market tomorrow. Hoping to snack on those rather than eggs and cheese next week, to help the gut issue.

Hi, I am just reading the book and am keen to get started, having not reached the end of the book yet. You know how it is! I wondered if this sounds like an ok meal plan for the first week?

Sat
B - oatcakes and full fat cream cheese
L - ham, cheese and salad
D - salmon, broccoli, kale and green beans

Sun
Brunch - bacon, eggs, sausages (?), mushrooms, tomatoes
D - roast chicken, potatoes, lots of veg (is gravy not allowed?)

Weekday breakfast - porridge with full fat milk and cinnamon
Weekday lunch - omelette/salad/soup, apple and satsuma
Dinners:
M Rice with leftover chicken, bacon, peas, onions, carrots and peppers
T Halloumi and roast veg traybake, salad
W Jacket potato with butter, cheese and salad
T Greek salad
F Steak and veg with salad

I am new too, week 1 , so am sure others will jump in if I haven't got this right:

I would query the oatcakes , sadly , on the veg oil front if you are being very strict.

Gravy - fine if home made but without flour to thicken, probably not if you use processed granules.

Looks good! Welcome Smile

ColouringPencils · 03/07/2021 11:20

I did wonder about the oatcakes but was eating them while reading the book - oh well!

ColouringPencils · 03/07/2021 11:27

How are you finding it so far @Words?

Aria999 · 03/07/2021 13:15

Dinner: cheese fondue (yum). I did have some bread to dip in it but also apple.

Words · 03/07/2021 13:16

It's heaven sent for me, frankly. I love to cook, and have been following my own version of this since last October, so these ideas just tweak it a bit plus giving me free rein on the things I like most to eat.

The one issue I am having is mild constipation, which I think is because I've been overdoing the meat. Chia seeds have been recommended so I am trying those.

Words · 03/07/2021 13:16

That was for @ColouringPencils :)

Words · 03/07/2021 13:19

Menu today:

Greek yoghurt, blueberries and, erm, Chia seeds.
Green salad with feta and tomato. Baked pot on standby if I am hungry
I've just made the meatball tagine recommended upthread for dinner - looks great so will serve that with brown rice I think

Couldn't find my heat diffuser so put tagine straight on the burner. It cracked, of course :(

Aria999 · 03/07/2021 14:35

@Words , Sam said it's actually flax seeds if you're targeting bowel movement

Words · 03/07/2021 15:18

Oh bother! Blush

badlydrawncat · 03/07/2021 18:24

B: Shakshuka (no bread)
D: lamb in ginger, chili and soy with soba noodles (100% buckwheat) followed by cocoa persimmon pudding

thehairyhog · 03/07/2021 19:13

The clearspring oatcakes are made with olive oil

CatherineCawood · 03/07/2021 19:38

I think I ate too many carbs yesterday (porridge, rice and potatoes 😬)

Today was:

Breakfast: bacon, 2 eggs and mushrooms plus one third of a flapjack (don't ask!) after morning running

Lunch: greek salad and a satsuma

Snack: half an apple and a slice of cheese

Dinner: curried cauliflower puree, chicken, roast potatoes and asparagus (see photo) and half and apple with cinnamon and 1tsp of oats baked, dollop of cream

@Words how was the meatball tagine? It was v popular in our house and I will 100% be making it again.

Words · 03/07/2021 20:41

It was excellent @catherinecawood. Apart from cracking my tagine, that is!
Slightly under seasoned, so will watch that next time.
Will definitely make again- thanks for the recipe !

CatherineCawood · 03/07/2021 20:49

Nooooo, how did it crack your tagine? I had left overs the next day, always better the next day! I added a green pepper which was really nice.

I have no pics, but today I had bacon, scrambled eggs and a couple of tomatoes

Lunch was a banana and berry smoothie made with unsweetened coconut milk and water

Dinner was homemade beef chilli with basmati rice.

Not great for veg, but in my defence, I had to get a covid test unexpectedly and couldn't get to the shop to buy any! Delivery is coming tomorrow!
