I have the audio book so can't quote or screen shot but he says between 1-1 and 4 omega 6 and 1 omega 3 which seems to be quite widely accepted. The nearest I can get to a quote was by googling reviews - sorry

Aha! I too have the audio book, I also have the actual book but can't find it, I had it Thursday and it has gone missing!

Thanks for clarifying though.

Oh excellent thread. I'm a veggie which limits the options a little.

I'd like to contribute my favourite recipe which is a kind of super lazy mushroom stroganoff which I've adapted to add in piles of greenery and omega 3 seeds to make it a super omega meal.

I live on my own so generally make huge batches of stews etc and then freeze and/or eat leftovers for a week so this makes for a fairly huge batch.

Recipe is me adding all of the below into a large stirfry pan in order:
Olive oil
Couple cloves of garlic
Pack of mushrooms
Chopped pack of green beans
Half a brocolli
Chopped asparagus
Liberal sprinklings of chia seeds and flax seeds
Tin of mushroom soup (lazy but quick)
About two cups of spinach
Add a small portion of cooked rice mixed in.

And that's the main of it. I sometimes mix and match with cheeses: either cheddar grated on top, or feta or halloumi mixed in for extra protein.

OldTurtleNewShell · 28/06/2021 09:55

This was the quote in the appendix. He just says to aim for more natural levels which are 1:1 to 1:4 as opposed to Western diets which are generally 1:15 up.

Thanks for posting that 🙂
I think that a lot of the problem is that the majority of sites write the omega 6 first followed by the 3. The book and a few other places write the 3 first. My brain has to jump and do a quick turn to figure out what's meant. I think that @TheLeadbetterLife I'm not going to sweat it too much. It is intriguing though.

Breakfast
Greek Yoghurt with a little added milk to make it a bit thinner with added strawberries and blueberries. Cappuccino with cinnamon sprinkles because cinnamon makes everything special.

The yoghurt has to be Tesco Finest or Waitrose since Total started dicking around with the fat levels and you can no longer get full fat. And it has to be Greek Yogurt not Greek style. I'm sorry British yoghurt makers yours tastes nothing like Greek Yoghurt (looking at you Yeo valley and Rachel's).

Posted this once and it disappeared, along with the picture!

Anyway, I've just had the baked egg and ham dish @highlandcowbag suggested.

My God it was good. I just happened to have an end of roast ham from the butcher's so used that with one large duck egg, sliced toms ( didn't have any cherry ones, they would have been even nicer) and Comte cheese grated on top.( a new find as a cooking cheese - don't like to eat it 'raw')

Delicious. The best sort of dish: simple, just a few ingredients, quick - and absolutely gorgeous. Thank you :)

Seahorse11 · 28/06/2021 13:22

The mushroom stroganoff recipe sounds delish!! I’ll deffo try that!! I’ve veggie too so it’s a tricky one.
I had fruit and full fat Greek yogurt for breakfast.
Lunch is currently nearly ready. I’m doing a potato salad with creme fraiche, spring onion, watercress, lemon and cheese. Simple and easy.
Tonight will be a mix of Greek salad, Turkish couscous salad, and halloumi. Not sure if the couscous is allowed tho 🤔

LifestyleReset · 28/06/2021 14:04

Breakfast was porridge

Lunch was maybe a mistake! I had some shop bought cous cous, had sunflower oil but very low down the list. Hopefully not bad for a one off. I also had a hot smoked salmon fillet with it and a handful of raspberries after

Dinner will be a cheese jacket potato and a big salad

Words · 28/06/2021 16:13

My menu today

Brunch: Green juice ( kale, apple and ginger) followed by Cowbag's Heavenly Baked Egg and Ham (see above.)

Snack: Strawberries and a cup of tea with milk

Dinner will be venison steak sizzled in butter, cauliflower cheese, broccoli and kale. Pud: strawbs and blueberries with cream or greek yog. Or, erm, both. Maybe some cinnamon too.

@LifestyleReset
Couscous is wheat though isn't it?

Yes, is it. But I have seen numerous people saying it's OK. Not sure but today was my weigh day so I don't mind if it was a little off the plan :)

HighlandCowbag · 28/06/2021 21:11

@Words it's lovely isn't it? Like you say really simple and really easy but so delicious. My lovely aunt who died used to make us cheese and egg when we were little. Literally grated cheese and eggs baked in the oven served with toast soldiers. This is more sophisticated but still simple and delicious.

I've had a good day, apart from beer. Realised I had an influx of eggs from our chickens so made a caramelised onion, yellow pepper and cherry tomato tortilla. Realised I didn't have cheese so whisked a few spoonfuls of philadelphia through the egg and was lush. Had some of that with salad for lunch, then dh made steak, beef fat chips and Mediterranean veg for dinner. Huge portion but I probably won't eat until tomorrow lunchtime now.

Need to get my sleep sorted this week. Haven't slept for more than about 3 hours without waking for about a month now, since daunt started going downhill. Beer tonight won't help but am going to go for a run tomorrow and hope that helps. Physical activity definitely down the last few weeks and I've noticed it.

Seahorse11 · 28/06/2021 22:36

Halloumi salad tonight. Was lovely. Had come back from a 22 mile bike ride. Would’ve been so easy to hit the carbs so couscous was as far as I went!!

Great menus today. I've been head down at work then helping out with English Language revision followed by a quick outdoor theatre thing.

Today I had

avo and poached egg on toast (see above post)
greek yog and cream with blackberries, 1 apple
greek salad with a few potato wedges and a free range pork sausage (not great to have a sausage but it needed eating and there was nothing else sorted)

just got in and am hungry so had another dollop of greek yog

Not sure it was the most balanced day?

Tomorrow's breakfast is asparagus and eggs.

I had porridge for breakfast with whole milk, lunch will be an omelette with spinach and mozzarella and some side salad bits. Dinner is roast chicken, sweet potato wedges and salad.

Thoughts on roast chicken skin??

TheLeadbetterLife · 29/06/2021 12:27

Thoughts on roast chicken skin??

It's one of the most delicious things known to man and I'll scoff as much of it as I can get away with before serving up?

badlydrawncat · 29/06/2021 12:42

I believe it's very fatty, which is what makes it crispy. I can't think why it would be off-plan. I do the same too 😄

TheLeadbetterLife · 29/06/2021 12:46

By the time it's got to optimum crispness, the fat is all in the roasting tin (to be drained off and kept for cooking with).

Christ I want to roast a chicken now...

BrightShark · 29/06/2021 13:20

Boring but easy and tasty lunch today. Scrambled egg and balsamic dressed salad. Along with an apple, very filling and I won’t be hungry until dinner. Previously would have been snacking all afternoon after sandwich and crisps.

@LifestyleReset sounds yummy and I’d definitely eat it!

collywobble · 29/06/2021 14:17

I had made a butternut and sweet potato curry with coconut milk for dinner but kept smelling it wafting through and ended up having a portion of it for lunch. Absolutely delicious it was too so I'll serve some with some salmon fillets for dinner and nobody will be any the wiser .

CatherineCawood · 29/06/2021 14:23

@collywobble did you use a particular recipe? Sounds nice.

I just had lunch of stir fry prawns with garlic and ginger. It was pretty good.
