May I please have a humble brag?

I am sorry if this sounds smug, but I really need to celebrate somewhere about my weight loss. I have lost a stone over a year and kept it off, and reduced my BMI to a healthy level. I know this weight loss is nothing much given people are losing far more, but I am 49, and going through the peri-menopause, so it is really hard to keep weight off.

Gone from a size 12-14 to a size 10-12, hoping to get it down to a proper size 10. My main motivation is to avoid diabetes, which is very common in my Asian family. I was diagnosed pre-diabetic in early 2020, but now my sugar levels are normal, which is such a relief.

Congratulations! That must feel amazing. Don't minimise your achievement - a stone is still a lot to lose and it's hard to keep it off, which you've managed. Brag away!

adviceseekingnamechanger · 15/06/2021 12:34

Humble brag away! That's fantastic! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Fantastic achievement! Losing weight in peri-menopause is so hard. You’ve inspired me to keep going (6 lbs lost, 20 to go).

LovelyGirlCompetition · 15/06/2021 13:05

Don't be humble about your brag, op Grin. You have done really well. It's definitely harder, the older you get. Well done x

MareofBeasttown · 15/06/2021 13:17

Thanks very much. DH and DS have barely noticed, so felt I needed to tell someone. I do feel a lot lighter. It's an ongoing struggle; am cooking chicken kung pao and rice for DS today and it is going to be so hard to stay away from the rice! I see there is a thread for the 50 plus here. Going to join it now and hope to lose another half a stone at least by the end of the year.

I do not follow a diet, but I reduced my rice and chapattis considerably. I measure my rice out now and only allow myself a tiny half cup a day. Was already eating mostly veggies, but now I have made a conscious effort to chuck more in. For instance, any time I am making an omelette, I will toss in spinach, mushrooms or tomatoes. If I am making a dahl, I will toss in onions, tomatoes or some greens. I am definitely a bit protein deficient because I do not eat meat, but I eat a lot of lentils and eggs daily. If I am hungry mid afternoon, I eat nuts. I do not drink any more. Not sure my diet /lifestyle would work for everybody:) DH also needs to lose weight so that makes it easier.

Exercise wise, all I do is walk a lot, average of about 7 k steps daily. I would like to do some other exercise but I can't really stick to proper training.

That's fab, I am Asian too and rice and chapati are my weakness. I need to stop the carbs doesn't help I have a reduced sense of taste since I caught covid and struggling with regular spices which helped me eat lot of veg.

I am trying to lose go from size 16 to a 12 which I used to be. I am motivated that it can be done in a Asian veg diet. Thanks for sharing!

Well done. Definitely worth a humble bragSmileStar

Congrats.

I eat cauliflower rice which is delicious and 150g is only 30 calories compared to almost 200 calories for the same amount of cooked white long grain rice.

Shock. This could be life changing... 👍
RedHotChiliChips · 18/06/2021 21:55

That's an amazing result, you deserve a humble brag or two!

Funnily enough I was listening a pod cast yesterday about the Indian diet, problems with chapatis and prevalence of T2 diabetes.
