6 stone to lose - my journey!

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here but decided to pop my head up and talk about my weight loss journey which I have just begun.

49 years old, yo-yo dieter for approx 20 years. Never have much problem loosing weight, just can't keep it off. So, I joined Slimming World on Wednesday and have around 6 stone to lose. So far I have lost 3lb, which is to be expected in week 1. Very much enjoyed the group meeting, and the meals/recipes are good too.

So far, so good. Anyone else on their journey too?

Ah you're both doing fantastically well @StanleyOscar and @picklemewalnuts - well done!

I'm still here, beavering away but that gain won't shift (although at least it didn't continue which I suppose I should be grateful for after a family celebration and a trip away). Still motivated though - just!

WheresMyTweezers · 29/07/2021 07:55

Oh meant to say, I did measure myself and I've lost 3cm of waist and the same off hips so clearly something is happening, just not on the scales!

StanleyOscar · 29/07/2021 07:59

@WheresMyTweezers - Hello there! What a pain that your weight won't shift, I know how you feel. My weight has now stalled, which I was expecting but still annoying. Been stuck at 16st 1lbs for 4 days, so close to being under 16 stone. It will start moving again, as will yours, have faith! Smile

Well 3lb of the 4lb gain has now come off - hallelujah! I'm back down to an even stone off. Again no idea why - maybe the change in weather? Maybe hormones? I'm eating the same as when I gained (in fact, maybe a little more as husband and kids are home now during the day). Who knows, just gotta keep on doing what I'm doing.

@StanleyOscar it's so tough when you just want to break through another achievement. It'll happen though and you'll feel even better when it does.

StanleyOscar · 30/07/2021 08:25

@WheresMyTweezers - Well done! I'm so pleased to hear you are chipping away at the 4lb gain, many would probably give up which we know isn't the right decision. It's so demoralising when the weight increases, I suspect it might have something to do with now you are much lighter, your body doesn't burn so many calories as it used to, therefore any treats have a far greater impact on weight gain? I don't know, just guessing.

Well, I went running yesterday and ensured I did 10,000 steps in the hope that it would break my plateau, and it worked, or at least something did. Weighed in this morning and the scales said 16st exactly, I'm pleased with that and on the brink of 15st 13lbs. So, overall, 32lbs lost in 10 weeks, 49lbs to go!

SW = 18st 4lbs
CW = 16st 0lbs
TW = 12st 7lbs
Loss = 32lbs

Brilliant news, @StanleyOscar and @WheresMyTweezers ! Well done!
I'm due on the scales again tomorrow. My eating machine tendencies seem to have settled, and I'm back to healthier habits again. I need to walk a bit more, but the weather and business are getting in the way. Ought to get the trampette out really.

I've managed a better squat in Tai Chi, which is pleasing. Posture is really important, and I couldn't find a way to deepen the upright posture, weight back, wide legged stance. Turns out that it tucking my tailbone under I was tensing a lot of muscles unnecessarily. Letting that tension go has allowed me to sink much deeper, so I can increase the challenge of the work.

It's remarkable- I've found a few pockets of tension I was oblivious to before I started. Mainly under my buttocks and at the back of my thighs. It's a curious process of mindful relaxation, stretching and exertion.

picklemewalnuts · 30/07/2021 14:22

And my stats!

6 stone to lose - my journey!
StanleyOscar · 30/07/2021 16:03

@picklemewalnuts - WOW! Just WOW! Shock

OP posts:
WheresMyTweezers · 31/07/2021 08:11

Oh you're so close @picklemewalnuts !!!

Ah, fantastic on getting to that next boundary @stanleyoscar

And, that final extra pound has come off! So I end July 9lbs lighter and 15 lighter since mid June.

I need to get my head round 1 stone being fine in 6 weeks and not get carried away by a decent loss then disappointed by a STS/gain as my pattern seems to be 2 steps forward 1 back even though I'm being consistent and maybe that's just how it is for me. I have been able to live too, if I've been out for a meal, I've simply tried to enjoy it then average it out the next day.

Anyway, busy day - let's see what the next week brings!

StanleyOscar · 31/07/2021 08:24

@WheresMyTweezers - Well done! 9lbs in a month is excellent, you must feel the difference? I know what you mean about getting your head around STS, I seem to have gotten used to it now. Everytime I STS, it is always followed by a big drop in pounds, and so last week when I was stuck at 16st 1lb for four days, I didn't worry. Sure enough, 1lb off a day for the last two days. Smile

Climbed on the scales this morning - 15st 13lbs!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! Star Star Star

At last, I am under 16st, the lowest weight I have been for over 4 years. Next target - 15st 11lbs - 2.5st loss.

SW = 18st 4lbs
CW = 15st 13lbs
TW = 12st 7lbs
Loss so far = 33lbs

@picklemewalnuts - How are you?
@73kittycat73 - Not heard from you for over a week, I do hope you are okay?

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 31/07/2021 08:30

That's so important, Tweezers. It's a long road, and you need to sustain it at the end. It's not about getting to a target weight, it's about living at your target weight.
We need to learn what the right amount and the right type of food looks like. How much activity we need to stay fit. How to deal with meals out, birthdays, other people's poor eating choices etc.
All that, for the rest of our lives.

I have to say, looking better in clothes is motivating! More motivating for me, though, are practical things like not needing to think so hard about what to wear, being able to get wellies that fit my calves, wearing the dog walking belt (for treats, whistle, poop bags) easily.

And- massive one, this- chub rub seems to be resolving! I'm wearing dresses without needing shorts underneath!

picklemewalnuts · 31/07/2021 08:45

Well done, @StanleyOscar ! I didn't see your post when I wrote mine! Those mileposts are so important. I'm heading for the 90kg mark next, so that will be a feel good moment!

ThroughThinkandThing · 31/07/2021 21:51

Just lost a long message - sorry! Am in the Highlands with no wifi and signal only every twenty miles - hope I can type this before we lose it again!

@StanleyOscar fantastic on being in the 15 stone bracket.

@WheresMyTweezers such good news on 9lb in the month, and absolutely agree on if you go out, not worrying about it at the time, but averaging it the next day.

@picklemewalnuts definitely agree on the practical things like clothes and wellies.

Eating too much on holiday, but walking 15km plus each day so hoping it doesn't all pile on. No scales for me or for food, so doing it by guesswork at the moment.

WheresMyTweezers · 03/08/2021 07:23

How are we all doing? I'm hovering between 15 and 16lb off so happy things seem to be going in right direction again.

@ThroughThinkandThing -same, I'm away again and have less control over what I'm eating but hoping it's balanced out with extra activity.

picklemewalnuts · 03/08/2021 08:52

Make sure you enjoy your trips away, Thinking and Tweezers! I'm doing ok, in a slow and steady way. I mistakenly got trapped next to the food at a party- there was nowhere else to sit. I'll be prepared next time, with a little pot of Cheerios to nibble on! There was very little in the cucumber/carrot stick department, and I didn't want to eat it all! So I ended up nibbling things I shouldn't have. Still. Never mind.

I'm off to DM's after tomorrow's weigh in. I have my 'allowed' snack bag already packed, and lots of fruit and yogurt being delivered. That will see me through.

ThroughThinkandThing · 03/08/2021 09:53

@picklemewalnuts it is tricky when you are trapped like that. Definitely felt trapped this morning by eggs and sausages, but lunch will be fish and salad so not so bad. And we are out tonight, so I can choose my own meal.

Yesterday no scales so I don't know what my weight has done, but my waist and hips have stayed at 31.5 and 47.5. Argh!

picklemewalnuts · 03/08/2021 13:23

There's an eating 10 veg/fruit a day Thread if anyone's interested. I'm having a go. It's a good addition to eating sensibly.

StanleyOscar · 04/08/2021 07:52

Weigh in day today, and I think I am on target for a 2lb loss. My weight has stalled at 15st 13lbs for the last five days, it just won't budge. Sad

I have done over 10,000 steps a day, cycled along the river for a few miles, and stuck strictly to my diet with absolutely no naughty food or treats. I think my inches have dropped though, finally had to resort to wearing a belt as my shorts and trousers keep dropping to the floor. Grin

Oh, and I have now dropped from a XXXL all the way down to a L, albeit a little tight, it is comfortable.

How's everyone else doing?

OP posts:
StanleyOscar · 04/08/2021 14:17

Well, I got a 1.5lbs loss which was disappointing after all the work and discipline I have put into my diet & exercise this week. Sad

Might as well have a blast tonight, chinese takeaway, crisps, icecream etc.

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 04/08/2021 15:03

It must be something in the air- I maintained this week. Disappointing.

It's definitely our body messing about, rather than us. Have a night off, only eat what you really enjoy though!

picklemewalnuts · 04/08/2021 15:04

And your overall loss is staggering!

WheresMyTweezers · 05/08/2021 07:32

Hola!

Agree with @picklemewalnuts - your overall loss is amazing @stanleyoscar so focus on that AND that you are still getting losses despite such a drop.

Me? Yo yo is my name! Back to around 13lb off (from 15/16) but I've been away so understand why. I've made fairly good choices but I have had alcohol which I rarely do and some low fat/cal meals but carb/salt heavy. I have done SO MUCH walking though. The most I've done since having my accident last year. At least it's proven to me you can't out-exercise your diet and it's a good job I don't eat back any calories I've "earned"!

Let's see if it's a real gain or if it comes off as easily as it went on...

StanleyOscar · 05/08/2021 08:13

Thank you for your words of ecouragement, and yes, you are both absolutely right. I think I was just having one of those days and no, I didn't resort to having a blast in the end, just couldn't let myself down after all the hard work over the past 10 weeks, and so I stuck rigidly to the diet yesterday.

Like you say @WheresMyTweezers why after so much walking do the pounds NOT come falling off, and @picklemewalnuts I agree, definitely our bodies messing about.

So, this mornings weigh in on the home scales, and a 1lb loss after a 5 day plateau! Interestingly enough, I didn't do any exercise yesterday, nor did I get to 10,000 steps. At yesterdays Slimming World weigh in, it was mentioned to me that I looked very different, and my weight loss was now very noticable, that was nice to hear.

It's interesting too that many friends/family haven't said a thing despite me loosing almost 2.5stone since the last time we met. It's either because they simply haven't noticed me drop from a XXXL to an L, or they never thought I was really that big, although I doubt that. I guess I am in that 'inbetween' stage at the moment between massively overweight, and slim. Losing 3st from a starting weight of 18st 4lbs won't notice as much as if and when I lose 3st from 15st 4lbs. I guess 1 stone out of 18st doesn't notice as much as 1st out of 13st (1/18th vs 1/13th).

SW = 18st 4lbs (24th May 2021)
CW = 15st 12lbs
TW = 12st 7lbs
Loss so far = 34lbs (10 weeks)

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 05/08/2021 09:12

I must say, I don't really notice people's weight gain/loss. Unless they wear something radically different, which shows it off.

Well done on holding firm!

Good point! Time for me to bring out the Mankini then! Grin
