6 stone to lose - my journey!

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here but decided to pop my head up and talk about my weight loss journey which I have just begun.

49 years old, yo-yo dieter for approx 20 years. Never have much problem loosing weight, just can't keep it off. So, I joined Slimming World on Wednesday and have around 6 stone to lose. So far I have lost 3lb, which is to be expected in week 1. Very much enjoyed the group meeting, and the meals/recipes are good too.

So far, so good. Anyone else on their journey too?

Thanks for the support everyone - I'm not too downhearted though - it WILL come off. Somewhere...

Interestingly I looked at my stats over the last month. In the corresponding week, 4 weeks ago, I lost 0. It was the only 7 day period not to show a loss. Maybe I'm wrong about not losing in the run up to my period, maybe it's mid-cycle which is the one week in four where I hold on to everything? And combined with water retention in this heat...I have at least lost 1lb in this rolling seven days so that's good.
So yeah, I'm fairly confident I'm doing ok and should see a loss soon, but I'm also ok with not seeing a loss if I understand why.

Oh and a little NSV - just caught sight of myself in a full length mirror and I look much better in this dress than I did a month ago!

Anyway...oh you're going to feel so good @StanleyOscar when you get that next award! I know what you mean though, must be weird being held up as a guru!

picklemewalnuts · 20/07/2021 14:25

Gosh well done all!

If you are sticking a bit, have you checked your tape measure!?

I'm doing brilliantly today, and am confident of a loss tomorrow. I've been cooking for 150! Community kitchen. And have only had a yogurt and a Small Chunk of sausage so far today. I'm starting to get hungry now I've sat down, but I'll have a yogurt and save myself for dinner! Sausage and bean casserole with pitta bread.

StanleyOscar · 20/07/2021 14:47

@picklemewalnuts - Well done helping the community, sounds like you have been very busy in the kitchen. You deserve a sit down, and well done for sticking to yoghurt. It's time like that when I have cracked in the past, gotta have a naughty snack because I am famished and feel I deserve a treat. Star

Good morning Team!

Weighing-in day today at slimming world, wish me luck. Got on the scales this morning and it said 16st 4lbs, and so another 1lb off making a total of 4lbs this week on my home scales. That makes sense as I have just come off a plateau.

Total loss so far - 2 stone! Grin

That's fantastic - well done!

StanleyOscar · 21/07/2021 08:56

@WheresMyTweezers - Thank you!

It's always a double edged sword with this weigh loss, because it is never consistent. On the one hand when it stalls for a week, I think it's not working, no matter what I do. I get down and frustrated. On the other hand, when it suddenly shifts and I lose 1lb a day for a few days, which is what I want, I do get concerned that maybe I have a health problem. Then, it will stall again and I think 'no, I'm not ill, it's just what my body does'. I have been very strict this week and have increased my fluid intake, I think Ketosis might be coming into play?

I fully expect another plateau over the next week.

OP posts:
WheresMyTweezers · 21/07/2021 09:23

Same. This week has been very resistant! But, looking back over the last month I can see a pattern so I'm trying to keep positive and remember it will come off next week. I'll be unbearable if it doesn't though Grin

picklemewalnuts · 21/07/2021 09:46

2.5 off! Yay!
Blip last night when I ate a bakery cookie and a bag of crisps while talk to my mother on the phone!
New strategy, line up yogurt and apples before picking up the phone.

picklemewalnuts · 21/07/2021 09:47

Hang in there- you know it's a loss over time.

StanleyOscar · 21/07/2021 10:13

Dash it! No slimming world class today, the lady who runs it is self-isolating. I drove all the way there, looking forward to the weigh-in, and the awards, but the door was closed and nobody else there. Shame as I have lost 4lbs this week, ah well, can't be helped, these things happen.

Roll on next week.

@picklemewalnuts - WELL DONE! Star

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 21/07/2021 10:50

Oh that's frustrating! What a shame. Will they get someone else in for next week?

StanleyOscar · 21/07/2021 11:06

@picklemewalnuts - I don't know. There was a sign on the door that said the class was cancelled due to self isolation, other than that, no further information. I guess these things happen, especially in these covid times, and it does give me another week to really hammer away at the weight loss resulting in a bumper weigh-in next week. I do wonder though how many other members might suffer with their dieting if the next weeks class is cancelled too?

At least for me the diet goes on, and today I acheived my 2 stone target. If next weeks class goes ahead I hope to get the 2 stone award, the Club 10 award, and I may have a chance to win the slimmer of the month as I could rack up a total loss of 12lbs for the month of July. However, the main thing is that my weight is still dropping, and soon I will be 15 stone something.

All good stuff though!

@picklemewalnuts @73kittycat73 @WheresMyTweezers @everyone - How are we all today?

StanleyOscar · 21/07/2021 11:09

One thing I have noticed since losing weight, is that whilst driving the distance between my belly and the steering wheel has increased. When I started this diet, by tummy used to sometimes touch the steering wheel as I was driving, but now it is miles away. Grin

picklemewalnuts · 21/07/2021 12:13

That's a nice feeling, Stanley!

ThroughThinkandThing · 21/07/2021 18:24

What a shame about the class, but lots of targets for next week! Good luck.

My day has been pretty rubbish. End of term, which was great, but I crashed the car and the AA think it is a write off and generally all shit.

StanleyOscar · 21/07/2021 18:26

@ThroughThinkandThing - Oh no! Shock

So sorry to hear about your crash, hope you are okay. Sad

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 21/07/2021 18:30

Oh think! That's awful! I hope you are ok, frustration about the car aside. It can leave you with an awful adrenalin slump, even if you aren't injured.

ThroughThinkandThing · 21/07/2021 18:31

Thanks. I'm okay, though feeling really stupid and will probably be sore tomorrow. I had an apple in the car so have eaten it and feel less shaky.

73kittycat73 · 21/07/2021 20:33

Well done on the 2st mark StanleyOscar! Star Shame SW was cancelled. Hopefully next week you get all your rewards. Smile
Good going on the 2.5lb off picklemewalnuts! Star
Congrats on the NSV's WheresMyTweezers and StanleyOscar! Star
So sorry to hear about your crash ThroughThinkandThing. Sad At least no one was hurt? Don't feel stupid, accidents happen. That's why we have erasers, and insurance!
Went to the local traveling fair today (Didn't take a dizepam either!). I did have some doughnuts dipped in white chocolate sauce. Blush It was worth it though! Grin

picklemewalnuts · 21/07/2021 20:43

I'm flirting with the idea of aiming for 3lb off this week. That would be my 5 stone! It would be a stretch though- I've not lost 3lb in a week since the very start.

I made a reasonable start today- a yogurt, some fruit and mascarpone and a small chip butty for lunch. The chips would be synned, but it was only a handful, on a slice of wholemeal (hexb). Dinner was two bowls of chilled soup- gazpacho made without olive oil, and pea and mint. So basically, all veg for dinner. And a cube of cheese, my hexa.

I think I'll try- lots of yogurt and fruit, and salad and veg. Nothing ventured nothing gained, and worst case scenario, I get my 5 stone the week after!

73kittycat73 · 21/07/2021 20:48

Good luck picklemewalnuts! Star I'd love to lose 3lb in one week! Shock Very well done on getting almost 5st off! That's so cool.

WheresMyTweezers · 22/07/2021 09:09

@picklemewalnuts and @StanleyOscar well done on those fantastic losses - both this week and overall. Very inspiring.

@ThroughThinkandThing oh so sorry about the crash. I had a tiny bump the bother year (I was reversing I to a space incredibly slowly as it was tight, a man thought I was stationery and reversed into me), tiny scratch in my car but my legs went to jelly every time I thought of it that day

WheresMyTweezers · 22/07/2021 09:15

This is not a good week for me. Since Friday (my low weight!) I've put on 4lbs and I'm at a complete loss as to why. I've had one blow out meal (and even then I didn't eat anything else for rest day and I'm pretty sure I would have been within calories), had one ice cream bar and one g&t - again, both in days when I was low on calories. The rest of the time I've had salads, eggs, grilled fish etc. I have had carbs, but reasonable amounts and in a low fat/low cal context.

I'm really hoping this 4lb comes off next week as I don't really have anywhere else to go. I'm hardly having any snacks, I rarely drink alcohol and my meals are generally ok. I just can't do a rigid plan as it won't fit in with my family life - I will not be like my mum eating a boiled egg while the rest of the family have proper meals (and it didn't work for her!).

I have checked and this time 4 weeks ago I struggled too but at least I stayed the same. I'm hoping it is hormonal/heat related. I have lost 5lb in July as at today's weight, but a week ago I'd lost 9!

Anyway, on we go...

StanleyOscar · 22/07/2021 09:53

Well, I maintained today at 16st 4lbs, which is fine. I was getting a little worried at losing 2lbs in the last two days, and an overall 4lbs in 5 days, but I have just come out of a plateau. I hope to lose another 3-4lbs this week, meaning a total 8lbs loss at my next SW weigh-in as it will take into account the class which was cancelled this week.

@WheresMyTweezers - I'm putting my money on your 4lb gain being heat related, and water retention. It should be cooling of over the weekend, certainly in the UK, might be the same where you are, and if so, I bet those extra pounds drop off.

@picklemewalnuts - Good luck with the 3lb loss, you can do it!

@ThroughThinkandThing- As the others say, accidents happen and so don't beat yourself up over it!

@73kittycat73 - How are you today?

OP posts:
73kittycat73 · 22/07/2021 12:20

I fine but hot, thank you. Grin It was too hot to sleep last night. Eventually dropped off at about 8am this morning. Slept till about 11am. Was sooo hungry, tummy kept rumbling for hours, but, I stuck to my fasting time. Smile
How are you today? Good luck all with your goals and targets today.
I'm sorry to hear the scales aren't being kind to you WheresMyTweezers . Hopefully like Stanley says it's just water and bloat. Don't give up, hopefully you'll have a woosh very soon!
