Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

I braved the scales yesterday and I'm exactly 10 stone. That means I've put on 2lb as I was just under last weekend. Not surprising at all considering what I've been eating this week. I'm not going to beat myself up over it but I am a bit worried about going back to where I was before. I can't go back there - I was so unhealthy. Has anyone got any recipes/foods that they've been eating recently to inspire me. The easier the better.

Goldilocks99 · 28/11/2021 20:22

Gosh I really hope that you are shorter than me. Ten stone seems like a distant dream haha.
My low calorie recipe is:
Fry onions, garlic, ginger, chillies and Chinese five spice.
Add mushrooms, tofu, peas, soy sauce(dash of sesame) miso if to hand and water to make a broth.

Serve with carrot noodles or gyoza

Yourownpersonaljesus · 28/11/2021 20:37

That sounds nice @Goldilocks99 will give it a try with the gyoza linked to by @FluffyBattleKitten that I bought today. I'm 5'7 btw. I lost 3 and a half stone but it took me a long time (slow and steady). I'm a size 12 now but still have a flabby stomach - can't seem to shift it.

Goldilocks99 · 29/11/2021 08:39

I'm 5'7 btw.😭

So am I!

LargeInCharge · 29/11/2021 17:59

Don’t worry about a small gain @Yourownpersonaljesus even though I do tend to be harsh on myself when I gain so I’m not the best person to advise.

I wish I was 10 stone too @Goldilocks99

I messed up again last week and the weekend so I probably will chicken out of weighing tomorrow. I’ve behaved today and also done over 10k brisk steps so I just need to keep it up.

I tried Pegan Diet. seems to have been somewhat helpful. it may seem like a tough one to start with but it is definitely worth the effort if you want to lose weight and benefit from a healthier lifestyle.

LargeInCharge · 01/12/2021 11:58

I guess I’m pretty set in my ways with the calorie counting @meliscanan88 but I’m glad the pegan diet is working for you.

Calorie counting does work for me as long as I stick to it. I knew when I started this back in April there would be a couple of setbacks but I didn’t think one would last a whole month 😂. I feel like I’m getting back on track now though.

I hope you’re doing good @Yourownpersonaljesus and what I meant to say in my last post too was that the main thing is, is that you accepted the small gain and didn’t bury your head in the sand. I think that’s hugely important with weight loss journeys.

Happy 1st of December everyone! 🎄

Have a feeling this will be the hardest month so far. Does anyone have a plan how they are going to navigate Christmas?
I have a vague idea I might add in an extra fast day up to three the week before and just hope it cancels the excess out. Accept no loss until new year perhaps.

LargeInCharge · 02/12/2021 13:26

It’s dh’s birthday this month too so a double whammy for me @FluffyBattleKitten
I think I’ll reduce my calories on alternate days 2 weeks before Christmas. I don’t drink alcohol and won’t be having much chocolate so hopefully I won’t do too much damage weight wise. Hopefully 😂🤞🏻

FluffyBattleKitten · 03/12/2021 10:50

That sounds like a good plan. Do you reduce your calories to tdrr deficit or use something like 5:2? So far I've only really and success with 5:2 as I probably underestimate my calories so sticking to one meal is the only way I can guarantee a loss.

LargeInCharge · 03/12/2021 13:29

My fitness pal lets me have 1200 calories a day and won’t let me tap “complete diary” if I’m under 1000 so I’ll have 1000 a few times a week saving up around 600-800 calories a week so I’ll have between 1200 - 1600 to spare if I start 2 weeks before Christmas.

I weigh everything, even down to the milk in my coffee (I know a lot of people find that overkill but I’m okay with it).

I’ll probably still gain a little because 3500 calories is the equivalent to a pound in weight but it makes me feel less guilty when I’m inhaling Yorkshire puddings 😂

Hi all. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. My niece came over on Thursday and we had a very unhealthy Chinese takeaway. I ordered tofu kung po style with boiled rice which wasn't too bad but then ate loads of chips as I accidentally ordered an extra portion! Have kept below my maintenance calories yesterday and today though. I have an Ocado order coming tomorrow so am going to make the broth suggested by @FluffyBattleKitten. I'm going to try not to go over the top at Christmas but I'm not sure how that will go with my dwindling willpower.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 05/12/2021 15:19

Here is the broth. It was lovely - will definitely be making it again.

Oh that looks delicious @Yourownpersonaljesus

I had pizza on Friday 🤦🏻‍♀️ But I’ve been doing good the rest of the week.

Hope you all had a good weekend.

That looks much more photogenic than my attempts usually do haha. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm doing the same tonight.
Had a bit of a carb blowout at the weekend. Gotta show a bit of discipline as a result: Chinese soup Monday, stew Tuesday and using these as my two fast days.

I can't get on with my fitness Pal. Tried it when I was slimming for my wedding (when I was actually slim) and always felt like I was hungry.

My jeans are looking baggy though so I am taking that as a win. Good thing is I will get to tumble dry them hehe.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 07/12/2021 21:48

Not been too bad the last couple of days. I made a nice stir fry yesterday with Linda McCartney chicken pieces (which are vegan), lentil protein noodles, Chinese leaf, peppers, carrots, courgettes, spring onions, chilli, garlic, ginger and soy sauce. And today I was back on the broth - loving the teriyaki chick'n gyoza. Also had some natural yoghurt with low sugar granola for desert followed by 2 chocolates!

FluffyBattleKitten · 12/12/2021 17:26

Boohoo😥 fell off the wagon and gained 2kg in two days. How is that even possible!? I need tricks and recipes for a detox week this coming week as I did want to eat normally over Christmas.
Grumble grumble humbug!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 12/12/2021 21:01

Some of that must be water retention surely @FluffyBattleKitten. No idea about detox tricks and recipes but I did make a lovely veg masaman curry tonight with sticky rice. I just used a paste but really enjoyed it. I managed to lose the couple of pounds I put on last week. Not on purpose though - I had my booster jab during the week and was really ill so hardly ate anything that day. I really want to drop a couple of pounds before Christmas so I can pig out for a few days! We have our school Christmas parties and Christmas lunch at school (for the kids) this week so not much chance of that happening.

Goldilocks99 · 12/12/2021 21:11

Well done @Yourownpersonaljesus, sadly I had the opposite when I was ill-it makes me binge eat.
How do you cool down the paste if you don't use coconut milk?

Yourownpersonaljesus · 12/12/2021 21:58

I did use coconut milk @Goldilocks99 (I don't think I explained myself properly) but used a low fat version and added veg stock. I bought a bar of this today: tonyschocolonely.com/uk/en/our-chocolate/product/dark-chocolate-mint-candy-cane-51-1
Not sure if I will manage to keep it until Christmas!

Goldilocks99 · 16/12/2021 10:31

I've reached my original weight loss goal of 65kg. It's not quite enough as, although I was this weight when I was a size ten, it must have been mostly muscle. I plan to continue to slim to between 60-63kg by February or when I lose the final two inches off my waist, whichever comes first.

However, I am going to just try for maintenance over Christmas. I'm thinking 16:8 (so skipping breakfast) most days and alternate days where I have no carb seasonal salads etc for lunch.

Has anybody got any great winter/ Christmas salad ideas?

Yourownpersonaljesus · 18/12/2021 16:39

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Well done @Goldilocks99. I know what you mean - I weighed around ten stone when I was in my 20s but my shape is different now (the main difference is my belly). My good intentions have gone out of the window this week. I have eaten my body weight in biscuits and chocolate! Not really sure about winter salads but you could try roasted vegetables with either coscous, quinoa or bulgur wheat. I'm having it hot for dinner tonight with a quorn fillet but it's nice cold with humous or feta (if you eat dairy).

Goldilocks99 · 18/12/2021 17:15

So I did a roast style salad today for lunch.
Balsamic sprouts, cranberries, peppers and broccoli.
Rocket
Grains and chestnut packet mix thing
Vegan horse radish dressing

Was fairly nice, but the grains calories pushes it up.

I then undid my good work with mince pies and crisps and lashings of mulled wine. Whoops!

I think I am going to struggle because DH is home from work and his 'eating schedule' details my fast days.

I definitely look more like myself at least, not at my target weight but at least some semblance of shape is returning. (Although I suppose round is a shape).

I might need another tactic as my winter salads plan doesn't plan for unscheduled mince pies hmmm.

jeffersonsam · 21/12/2021 06:46

Take rich amount of fiber foods...Drink plenty of water. Don't eat any fry and oil rich food items. Do some simple workouts in your daily life. This will surely supports to reduce body weight.
