Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

I hope you’re enjoying the cruise @Dashel

Begone those pesky, but delicious chocolate malted milks @Yourownpersonaljesus

I’ve had a few ups and downs diet wise including a weekend incident with frozen yoghurt and Halloween shortbread but mostly kept to my limit and did extra guilt steps and a few just over 1k calorie days to make up for it.

SW - 214lbs
Week 1 - 209.8
Week 2 - 206.8
Week 3 - 205.6
Week 4 - 204.4
Week 5 - 202.0
Week 6 - 198.8
Week 7 - 197.8
Week 8 - 195.8
Week 9 - 194.6
Week 10-190.4
Week 11-189.4
Week 12-189
Week 13 -189
Week 14 -184.8
Week 15 -184
Week 16 -181.6
Week 17 -181.8
Week 18 -180.4
Week 19 -179.0
Week 20 ————
Week 21 -178.0
Week 22 -176.4
Week 23 -175.8
Week 24 -173.8
Week 25 -173.6
Week 26 ————
Week 27 -172.8

Slowly getting there. It’s frustrating because I know if I stopped self sabotaging I’d be at a healthy weight by now.

I hope everyone’s having a great week.

Well done @LargeInCharge - the numbers are still going down. I weighed myself at the weekend and am still the same. Had Chinese takeaway tonight though after a long day at work (parents evening). I had Kung Po Tofu with boiled rice, 4 little spring rolls and a few chips. I only ate half of the tofu and rice though - I'll be taking the rest to work for lunch tomorrow. I went 300 calories over today!!!

Dashel · 26/10/2021 09:55

Hi everyone!

Congratulations on another loss @LargeInCharge

I got back on Saturday and after a COVID test went to a party, no alcohol as too tired and thankfully the food was chilli and bread so not too calorific.

So pre holiday weight was 10st 12.5lbs
Sunday weight was 11st 3.1 lbs😭
Weight today 11st 1.1lbs

So I have already lost a load of presumably weight weight 🥳 but still more to go.

I want to be back on track ASAP to get to continue to be under 10st by Christmas, which will be a challenge but I’m going to try my best.

So my plan is going to be 1500 calories in the week and 1700 on weekends plus the 15k steps. I want to start sha bam at lunch time or a walk outside and have lots of protein and fibre rich foods.

Going on holiday was great but there was just so much temptation everywhere. We did 25k steps most days which will have helped but the calories in the wine and cocktails probably didn’t

Yourownpersonaljesus · 26/10/2021 20:41

Welcome back @Dashel. You did well to only put on a few pounds on your cruise with all that temptation about. I'm sure you can reach your goal weight. I'm still the same. I have eaten lots of cake today as I was celebrating a friends birthday. I went about 200 cals over my maintenance allowance but was under yesterday so it all evens out I guess. I need to try to eat healthily for the rest of this week. It's half term for me so at least I can exercise more.

Dashel · 27/10/2021 08:43

Thanks @Yourownpersonaljesus, it’s so hard when there is temptation about and outside of the home it’s impossible to avoid it. A cruise ship even has a choice of donughts for breakfast but I think I was pretty good to avoid those. I think you did well to not go too far over calories and eat cake.

I know you can’t out exercise a bad diet, but I think keeping to my 15k steps gives me some wiggle room.

I lost another pound this morning, so getting closer to my pre holiday weight, I’m sure all of it is water weight, but I can live with that to get back under 11st again!

Dashel · 30/10/2021 09:48

Good morning and happy weekend to my following dieting veggies!

I am in an exceedingly happy mood this morning as I am at my joint lowest ever recorded weight in my history of digitally recorded weights- which started in March 2015.

I am 10st 12 lbs exactly, yes it’s still a long way to get to what I should be at 5ft 3, but I am taking this as a huge positive and very motivating. It’s all downhill from here.

It also got me thinking about how I keep this sustainable and don’t repeat past mistakes and yo-yo back as I don’t want to weigh all my food every day for the rest of my life

Some of the biggest things I have realised is

  • condiments use a lot of calories, use ketchup with chips instead of mayo
  • don’t buy a whole french stick or an uncut loaf of fresh bread
  • butter although nice must be used sparingly and spread used when I can’t use the difference at about half of what I would have previously used
  • don’t eat a whole family bar of chocolate over the weekend,
  • alcohol is for special occasions only, DH now drinks alcohol free beer or alcohol free gin and tonic on the weekend if he fancies a drink.
  • Crisps whilst lovely must not be bought in a sharing pack size and multi packs must be small and bought sparingly as they get eaten quickly
-stewed fruit with yoghurt is a good for a warm pudding but easy on the calories
  • use sweetener rather than sugar
Yourownpersonaljesus · 30/10/2021 12:49

That's fantastic @Dashel - well done. You'll be feeling motivated to keep going now. I agree with all of your realisations except the drink one as I don't drink (and was still very overweight). I've pretty much cut crisps out of my diet but had some when I was out for lunch the other day and they tasted amazing! My DD has a uni friend here today and as she'd driven all the way from Cardiff to Essex I made us brunch. We had Richmond sausages, potato scone, hash browns, baked beans, scrambled egg and tomatoes - it was so good. I added up the calories and it was just over 600 so I'll have a healthy dinner. Must work out later too! Have a great weekend all.

LargeInCharge · 02/11/2021 18:52

I’ve been mia for a couple of weeks, had a dreaded cold for a week so haven’t been sticking to plan but I’m back on track now and will be weighing next week (dreading it).

Well done @Dashel on your weight loss!

That brunch sounded delicious @Yourownpersonaljesus I’m glad you’re doing well.

Have a great week.

Hope your feeling better now @LargeInCharge. I had a really bad cold a couple of weeks ago and just wanted to eat everything in sight! Nothing to report from me. Still the same weight and still eating too much cake!

I’m feeling much better thank you @Yourownpersonaljesus and I hope you are too. Dreaded cake, it’s so nice.

I chickened out on the weigh in again. I think if I’ve gained five pounds or so it’s going to trigger me into eating even less than 1200 calories a day and to be honest some days even that doesn’t feel like enough calories.
The fact Christmas isn’t far away has kicked some sense into me so I think the period of self sabotage is over. (I hope 😣)
I’m taking it day by day and exercising more to keep me motivated.

I hope everyone’s doing well.

Hi all, just checking in. Wanted to recommend these: www.ocado.com/products/yutaka-12-pieces-of-vegetable-gyoza-410653011
I just simmer them in water and serve with sweet chilli or soy sauce. They are pretty low calorie and make a change for lunch when I'm at home. They are vegan too @dHope everyone is having a nice weekend.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 13/11/2021 21:46

Pressed post when I didn't mean to! Meant to say they are vegan too @Dashel.

LargeInCharge · 16/11/2021 09:00

I finally plucked up the courage to weigh myself:

SW - 214lbs
Week 1 - 209.8
Week 2 - 206.8
Week 3 - 205.6
Week 4 - 204.4
Week 5 - 202.0
Week 6 - 198.8
Week 7 - 197.8
Week 8 - 195.8
Week 9 - 194.6
Week 10-190.4
Week 11-189.4
Week 12-189
Week 13 -189
Week 14 -184.8
Week 15 -184
Week 16 -181.6
Week 17 -181.8
Week 18 -180.4
Week 19 -179.0
Week 20 ————
Week 21 -178.0
Week 22 -176.4
Week 23 -175.8
Week 24 -173.8
Week 25 -173.6
Week 26 ————
Week 27 -172.8 (19/10/21)
Week 31 -173.2

A gain. Not surprising considering the crap I’ve been eating on and off. I couldn’t bury my head in the sand anymore and not weigh so I’m glad I did.

Yesterday dh ordered Chinese food and I could have given in and ordered pizza or Indian food but I didn’t. So I’ll take that as a win. I’m not blaming dh for my month of sabotage….it was my own fault.

I feel relieved today in a weird way. Not knowing how much I’d gained was messing with me so I feel more on track now.

Onwards and upwards! (Not upwards scale wise) 🤣

Welcome @HereticFanjo

OP posts:
Yourownpersonaljesus · 16/11/2021 20:33

That's barely a gain @LargeInCharge - don't be so hard on yourself. Look how much you've lost since you started.
Welcome @HereticFanjo.

LargeInCharge · 18/11/2021 15:54

Cheers @Yourownpersonaljesus I think it’s more the self sabotage that’s annoyed me.

Hope you’re doing good.

FluffyBattleKitten · 23/11/2021 18:36

Hi, looks like everyone is doing well. I'm impressed with your loss @LargeInCharge, we're around the same weight at the moment, so hopefully your goal is in sight. I've had to move my target down because I miscalculated and will sadly not be a nice healthy size at 65kg so am aiming for 63 to be realistic. Just under a stone to get there :)

LargeInCharge · 24/11/2021 09:38

Hi @FluffyBattleKitten thank you. Just under a stone, that’s great. You’ll get there.

I haven’t thought of a goal weight yet. I want to reach the healthy weight zone then I guess I’ll have to.

I weighed myself today (a day late) and I’m still 173.2. I’m still struggling to keep my calories in check for one or two days a week so I’ve decided to weigh daily to attempt to keep myself on the straight and narrow.

Hope everyone’s having a great week.

OP posts:
FluffyBattleKitten · 25/11/2021 18:14

I've been stalling around the same weight so I wonder if it's some sort of weird biological hurdle!
I can't remember what method you are using but 5:2 could work for you if you are finding it hard to be strict all the time. 5:2 has stopped being too effective for me so I am going to switch to 16:8 once I am over my blasted winter bug!(Sadly no loss there as could not find lucosade zero!)

Yourownpersonaljesus · 25/11/2021 21:24

I'm having a very unhealthy week! It's my DD's birthday so there has been takeaways (more than one) and cake. Last night I had the biggest slice of cake you ever did see and I was over my daily calories by 400. Today we had pizza hut and I have consumed 2704 calories - I am thoroughly ashamed!!! I'm trying no to go over 2000. I'll pick up some of those gyoza at the weekend @FluffyBattleKitten - get back to the healthy eating.

FluffyBattleKitten · 25/11/2021 21:33

No judgement here @Yourownpersonaljesus I am pretty sure I have had 2000 calories in lucosade alone and made cookies with Ds today.
Let's all be good tomorrowHalo
