Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Thank you @Yourownpersonaljesus
I did have pizza again on Saturday so I suspect I would have done better if I didn’t. I need to stay away from it. 🍕🤬

How is your 10 stone mark going?

Pizza is so good though @LargeInCharge. Yeah I'm managing to maintain which I'm happy with. I'm still counting calories and weighing myself regularly. Have eaten lots of cake today as it was someone's birthday at work. Can't say no to cake!

LargeInCharge · 26/09/2021 01:08

Nice one @ the maintaining @Yourownpersonaljesus cake is so good too. I bought some fibre one bars (carrot cake and lemon drizzle cake flavours) and pretend I’m having a slice. 🍰
I was tempted to get pizza again last night but managed to avoid it. I’m not sure why I’m suddenly getting the urge to self sabotage.

OP posts:
Yourownpersonaljesus · 26/09/2021 08:47

I'm exactly the same at the moment @LargeInCharge. I can't stop eating cake and chocolate. There's been a lot of birthdays at work recently and I can't just walk past the treats in the staffroom. I've gone over my calories the past few days (by a couple of hundred calories) so I'm sure I'll start gaining weight soon.

LargeInCharge · 26/09/2021 22:27

It’s annoying isn’t it?

I managed to get through the weekend with zero pizza and had enough calories last night for a Turkish Delight.
I’m taking things day by day again and motivating myself by looking at some clothes that used to be tight on me and some photos when I was larger.

We’ve all done really well and I’m a few pounds away from being a healthy weight so let’s keep going!

OP posts:
Yourownpersonaljesus · 27/09/2021 19:49

I've got rid of my old clothes now so really can't afford to put the weight on. Plus it feels good to be a healthy weight after being overweight for so long. We can do this!

LargeInCharge · 28/09/2021 10:34

Yeah you’re right @Yourownpersonaljesus we can do this!

I avoided pizza (and cheesy garlic bread) last week although I was tempted. I’ve got into my “You don’t need it” mindset again and did my steps everyday, stuck to my calorie limit and drank lots of water.

Hi everyone, admittedly I’m a tad late to the party, but can .i join too please? Congratulations on your progress so far!

I’m a 11st 2lb 5ft 3 vegan who is trying to loose a few pounds before her holiday in two weeks and then to get under 10 stone by Christmas.

I think my weight is caused by inactivity and weekend treats and with a bit of wine on a regular basis. So I have decided to up my steps to 15k a day from 5k during the week and maybe 12k on the weekends and start increasing my activity. I have been very active a few years ago, running a lot, squash, spinning etc and various other activities, but two years later and a lot of Netflix and I turned into a couch potato.

So apart from the steps, I am cutting calories to 1500 and trying to eat plenty of protein.

I am planning on upping the exercise once my legs get used to the extra steps but it’s been 10 days and I have only just started a bit of core work. I am hoping the exercise will make me feel and look better and help with the weight loss too.

Keep going everyone!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 29/09/2021 21:59

Welcome @Dashel. Good luck with your weight loss. How exciting to have a holiday to look forward to. Where are you off to?

Dashel · 30/09/2021 09:21

Thank you for the welcome!

I am off on a cruise so temptation will be everywhere. However I plan on keeping up the steps, being reasonably careful with lunch and breakfast and using this as a great opportunity to hit the gym, so this should stop too much damage being done.

I am really hoping that I can learn to keep the weight off for good.

So today, I have already had my pre work walk and made my protein powder, banana and oat milk breakfast smoothie.

I will probably do a Shabam work out at lunch time as it’s very wet here and then a post work walk. Lunch will be beans on whole meal toast with 10g of spread and dinner faux chicken Mexican whole meal wraps with a load of salad and then strawberries and raspberries with some alpro yoghurt for desert.

I am also weighing daily and find that useful in some ways but will use weekly averages for reporting here.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 01/10/2021 18:58

Sounds like a very healthy day @Dashel. What fake chicken do you use? There's lots to choose from now isn't there? I had pasta with lentil bolognese for dinner tonight which was really nice.

Dashel · 01/10/2021 20:24

It was Fry’s chicken strips yesterday. Which are really nice. Pre diet I would cook them for 10 mins and finish them off with sweet chilli sauce but that’s a bit calorie heavy now.

Currently I’m walking around the house trying to get my steps in tonight. I had my usual protein powder breakfast, left overs from last night (without the wrap) for lunch and a Friday night treat dinner of Marks and Spencer’s chicken tenders and 300 calories worth of chips and some peas…. I’m also pushing out the boat with some Diet Coke and stewed apple with sweetener … living the dream!

I have noticed that all this walking seems to be making my thighs a bit bigger but a bit of searching online seems to indicate that’s not that unusual.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I need to remember that weekend calories count just as much as ones eaten in the week

LargeInCharge · 05/10/2021 09:52

Welcome @Dashel your cruise sounds lovely, how motivating too.

My week was slightly eventful but I behaved from Sunday onwards. I think I’m back in the zone now. Was very lazy with steps though.

At least you haven't gained @LargeInCharge. I'm terrified to get on the scales at the moment! Not long now @Dashel. Bet you can't wait.

Dashel · 07/10/2021 21:40

No I am pretty excited, but a tad apprehensive as I’m the lightest I have been for two years and I want to have a good time but not go too far of the diet wagon. It’s going to be a challenge to find the right balance

I desperately want to be under 10 stone at Christmas

I have been doing my 15k steps except one day when I had to travel for work and spent so long driving I only managed 10k steps.

@LargeInCharge that sounds like a NSV to me so congratulations!!!

@Yourownpersonaljesus just get on the scales, you know it’s better to just get it done!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 09/10/2021 22:07

Well I finally stepped on the scales this morning and amazingly I haven't gained. The trousers I was was wearing to work yesterday definitely felt a bit snug though! Could be due to the fact that I'm only exercising twice a week now. Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

Dashel · 10/10/2021 20:23

@Yourownpersonaljesus I’m glad you got on the dreaded scales and didn’t gain, that’s fantastic!

I leave for my holiday tomorrow and I’m currently 10st 12.4lbs which is the lightest I have been in two years and that was only briefly when I was doing a lot of running before then it was 2015.

So 13lbs to loose by Christmas to hit my target.

Hopefully when I get back my protein powder stuff will have arrived and I can start hitting the gym more. I have been using up old stuff to make breakfasts with oat milk and banana and coco powder all blended but I have protein powder pancake mix and some low cal high protein drink sachets coming along with chocolate protein powder.

I have noticed that I don’t get so hungry as much now and I think I’m going to carry forward some of the things I have been doing indefinitely, things like buying a mini baton instead of a whole french stick for DH and I to munch our way through and weighing high cal foods and watching the sauces and not buying stuff just cos it’s vegan. Vegan junk food still has calories!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 10/10/2021 21:02

Have a wonderful holiday @Dashel. It sounds like you are on track for your target weight. I'm trying to increase my protein and I definitely think it helps me feel full for longer. This afternoon I made a chickpea and veg curry for tomorrow night and some extra to put in the freezer. Yesterday I made a quorn stir fry with wholewheat noodles. I added ginger, chilli, soy sauce and honey and it was really tasty. I find that weekends are the only time I cook properly - I'm too exhausted after work.

Dashel · 11/10/2021 17:47

So checked in at the pre cruise hotel and hit the gym! DH was a little moany but happy wife and all that!

Protein and fibre are definitely the best for making you feel full so I would aim to smash those and I think being veggie or vegan can make the protein harder so protein powder really helps me

Yourownpersonaljesus · 11/10/2021 18:44

Get you going to the gym @Dashel - very impressive. I've eaten just under 1900 calories today and had 61g of protein which isn't too bad. I had 96g on Saturday!

LargeInCharge · 12/10/2021 10:53

Well done on not gaining @Yourownpersonaljesus and keep scoffing that protein.

Nice one @ the gym workout @Dashel

I’m skipping the weigh in today. I spent two days eating way more than I should 😖 and I may not have gained but I don’t want to feel miserable if I have so I’ll weigh next Tuesday. I’ve been slacking exercise wise too.

I’m going to try kale, spinach and garlic soup for lunch.

Hope you all are having a good day.

Dashel · 13/10/2021 09:31

I’m at the gym again today, it’s so hard to resist temptation on a cruise ship, the bar staff keep offering drinks and the food, even for a vegan, is amazing! We had lunch on board and I a lentil salad so pretty good.

Then dinner I had aubergines in harissa and tomato sauce for a starter, cubed raw tofu and watermelon for a salad course and a vegan frittata and a few chips for mains but couldn’t eat it all. I only had one alcoholic drink. I’m still torn between eating healthy and low ish cal and trying everything in sight 😳

Keep strong ever…, Christmas party dresses are coming!!!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 13/10/2021 20:45

Sounds like a good plan missing the weigh in @LargeInCharge. I'm sure you won't have gained though. Must be really difficult being on holiday @Dashel and trying to lose weight. Sounds like you are doing really well though, going to the gym and making healthy choices. I've eaten 2003 calories today, including the last of the chocolate malted milks! 76g of protein and 46g of fibre.
