Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Well done. A bit jealous! Hope I get to 12 stone club soon. (I seem to be going up again!)

FluffyBattleKitten · 03/08/2021 20:30

Oops name changed (Slayer here!)

LargeInCharge · 04/08/2021 01:16

You can do it! @TheSlayer @FluffyBattleKitten There’s a vip slot reserved for you in the 12 stone club.

This thread was right at the bottom of my thread list.
Hi all!
I'm hovering around 12st 7. Which feels like a milestone as I've lost half a stone.
Very slowly but it'll do!

I'm still quite enjoying the gousto boxes for mainly ending up eating veg and a bit of tofu.

qwerty1972 · 07/08/2021 20:02

Hello everyone! Please may I join you? I'm a very plant-based vegetarian who for various reasons has eaten way too much chocolate, bread and crisps over the last 3 years. I don't know what I weigh (on holiday, so no scales), but I suspect it might be around 10 and a half stones. I should weight about 8 and a half stones as I am only 5 feet tall and have dodgy knee and ankle joints which need protecting. Sunday 8th August is the start of the weight loss. I will be fifty in May next year and plan on being my target weight by then (but hopefully before).

Yourownpersonaljesus · 07/08/2021 20:25

Hi @SuperLoudPoppingAction - well done on losing half a stone.
Welcome @qwerty1972. Hope you've had a lovely holiday.

I've finally got down to 10 stone - yay!!! I've been exercising a lot for the past 2 weeks after becoming very lazy recently. I'm finding that my stomach is still very wobbly though even though I've been doing lots of abs exercises (Joe Wicks and Rebecca Louise). Maybe it will never shrink (not expecting a six pack or anything) as I've been a few stone over weight so maybe it's excess skin too. Does anyone here eat linseeds? I bought some today but I'm not really sure what to add them to apart from yogurt or porridge.

LargeInCharge · 07/08/2021 23:23

Congrats on your weight losses @Yourownpersonaljesus and @SuperLoudPoppingAction that’s great news, well done.

Welcome @qwerty1972 please do join us.

I’ve never tried linseeds so I’m no help I’m afraid.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 08/08/2021 15:59

I love linseed. It's nice instead of sesame seed, I think. So toasted on whatever - salads etc.

OrganicAvocado · 08/08/2021 17:07

Hi. Just saw this thread and thought I’d hop on board! I’m a lifelong vegetarian but became vegan after the birth of dd who is severely allergic to dairy and egg. I’m allergic to nuts, so my died is quite limited, however over the past 3 or 4 years my weight has crept up and up and I’m now at the top end of the “normal” BMI range, bordering on overweight. I’m only 5’1” and most of the weight is around my waist. My diet, for the most part, is healthy, but I just eat so much all the time. I rarely drink alcohol but I do snack on crisps. I do also eat tonnes of pasta, and bagels, but apart from cutting down on crisps and carbs what else can I do? I can’t exercise much due to hip pain. I’ll skim this thread for advice but as there are 27 pages it may take me a while!

OrganicAvocado · 08/08/2021 17:07

Yourownpersonaljesus · 08/08/2021 17:44

Hi @OrganicAvocado and welcome! I think there are a few vegans on here so you might be able to pick up a few tips from them. There's some nice recipes that people have linked to - my favourite is the one for spinach kibbeh which is vegan. I've lost three and a half stone in the last year so am maintaining now. I lost the weight by not buying all of the things that I love (crisps, biscuits etc) as I have no self control. I did still eat chocolate, but much less than I used to. Also my big downfall was eating rubbish in the evenings which I'm trying really hard not to do anymore. I'm now working on mostly eating foods that are good for me and increasing my protein and fruit and veg intake. I do fall of the wagon from time to time though Smile.

FluffyBattleKitten · 08/08/2021 18:25

Don't ask me, I've only been and gone up again. D'oh!
Have bought peanut butter powder if anyone does a lot of cooking with peanut butter normally. Meant to be a third of the calories. Only tried in a massaman so far, but was reasonably tasty.

LargeInCharge · 10/08/2021 09:46

I've also cut out meat but not found it helps with my weight. I've experimented with cutting out dairy and that actually seems to help more. There's a Joe Wicks recipe for green lentil bolognaise that I love. I've also love Moo Free vegan chocolate which tastes like normal chocolate so it's all working out well for me. I'm aiming to lose 1 stone. :o Good luck everyone.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 10/08/2021 15:27

Hi @MaryZe. I was the perfect example of an unhealthy (and overweight) vegetarian! I did give up dairy many years ago but only managed it for 5 months as I missed cheese too much. I did lose a stone without trying though. Do you have a link to the lentil bolognaise recipe by any chance?
Just think about your overall weight loss @LargeInCharge - you have done so well. Papa Johns sounds amazing. What did you have? They do a good selection of toppings for veggies/vegans don't they?

Hi - I couldn't find a way to post a link but the recipe must be popular because if you start typing Joe Wicks Lentil on Google, it will come up. Love your user name, BTW.
Yourownpersonaljesus · 10/08/2021 16:32

Is this the one @MaryZe? www.goodto.com/recipes/joe-wicks-lentil-bolognese
It does look good Surely the calories aren't that high though. Maybe I'll leave out the cheese and walnuts.
Are you a Depeche Mode fan?

LargeInCharge · 10/08/2021 17:20

I had a cheese less pizza with double feta and double mushrooms with marmite scrolls…..I love their marmite scrolls.
I didn’t get a carb hangover this time too. 🎉

Yourownpersonaljesus · 10/08/2021 19:20

That sounds so nice @LargeInCharge. I haven't tried the marmite scrolls but I think I'd love them! Have you tried these? www.ocado.com/products/m-s-marmite-dinky-cheese-pinwheels-557646011

MaryZe · 10/08/2021 21:18

@Yourownpersonaljesus that's the one! I also leave out the walnuts and cheese.

Yes, I love Depeche Mode

Yourownpersonaljesus · 10/08/2021 21:28

I'm adding it to my meal plan for next week @MaryZe. Good to meet a fellow Depeche Mode fan Smile.

Hello everyone! Back from my holiday so my first official weigh in was today.

13/08 - 143.2lbs

I’m relieved that I haven’t quite reached the 10 and a half stones I feared, but it’s definitely time for action. For the sake of my joints 120lbs is where I absolutely need to be. 115lbs would be ideal.

First target - getting below 10 stones. 139lbs - I’m coming to get you!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 13/08/2021 08:41

Welcome back @qwerty1972 and goof luck!
