Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Do you use any oil on the chick peas or just roast as is?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 13/07/2021 22:43

I coat them with oil in a bowl - not loads but a bit.

So tonight I had this -

www.goodto.com/recipes/joe-wicks-miso-tofu-with-stir-fried-ginger-greens

So good.

I made brown rice with it but only ate half a cup - it might have been ok without any

LargeInCharge · 14/07/2021 21:26

Cheers @TheSlayer it was weird yesterday, I was soo hungry. I swear it was my body begging for another carb fest. 😂

I checked this morning and I’m 188.0 so I’m relieved and my hunger is back to normal.

I snack on those Hartley’s 10 calorie jellies (which aren’t actually 10 calories but 7-9). Ryvitas are nice too, especially the fruit crunch and the protein ones. I got some marmite peanut butter which I like but sadly the weighed portion is tiny so I spread it thinly on rice cakes or protein ryvitas. I get those little portions of marmite cheese too.

Hi all. I recently discovered these and thought I'd share: www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/kallo-veggie-cakes-caramelised-onion-chutney/723512-758131-758132
They are so nice. I had them with sweet chilli Philadelphia today. There's other flavours too which I plan on trying.

TheSlayer · 19/07/2021 21:06

84kg give or take at the beginning
83.3kg currently.

Not a massive loss, but at least not a gain. I'm hoping it will continue to go down now it's started to slowly. I've cut out crisps in favour of rice cakes and riveta and definitely eating less on the whole.

I did get some fake feast choc ices in lidl though, because they were there. Just the one treat I hope won't set me back.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 19/07/2021 21:26

Going in the right direction @TheSlayer - well done.

LargeInCharge · 20/07/2021 09:38

Well done @TheSlayer and good job ditching the crisps for rice cakes. Crisps are my nemesis. Grin

Weigh day again for me.

SW - 214lbs
Week 1 - 209.8
Week 2 - 206.8
Week 3 - 205.6
Week 4 - 204.4
Week 5 - 202.0
Week 6 - 198.8
Week 7 - 197.8
Week 8 - 195.8
Week 9 - 194.6
Week 10-190.4
Week 11-189.4
Week 12-189

Week 14 -184.8

Just over 4 pounds. I’m really pleased after not losing anything at all in the last two weigh ins.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Well done! :)

Yourownpersonaljesus · 20/07/2021 17:24

That's a great loss @LargeInCharge.

LargeInCharge · 20/07/2021 19:00

Thank you @TheSlayer and @Yourownpersonaljesus

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/07/2021 23:26

Wow that is brilliant.
It's funny how nothing seems to be changing then there's a big shift.

I finished my noom trial. I think it was quite helpful. But I'm not going to pay for it.

LargeInCharge · 23/07/2021 08:29

Cheers @SuperLoudPoppingAction it’s weird how some weeks it’s 1 pound lost over and over then boom, 4 pounds. I remember reading about the “whoosh effect” but I’m not sure if it’s proven.
I am eating under my carb goal every day but I don’t think low enough to kick start ketosis (not going down that route).

Did noom have any good tips or help you could keep using?

OP posts:
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/07/2021 13:22

It did.
Also I think I am better weighing every day rather than every week or so. It is more of a routine.

You can see the first 2 weeks as a pdf online but I liked the trial as it was quite personalised.

I also think it has helped me move towards maybe eating more calories (nothing exciting was happening at 1000 calories a day) to eating 'better' calories eg fresher things and more whole grains which I wanted to do anyway.

I've lost weight for the first time in a wee while anyway. And eating a bit more, I feel more like exercising.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/07/2021 13:23

BTW if anyone wants to try hello fresh i have 4 free boxes to send but you would need an email address you were comfy sharing.

TheSlayer · 23/07/2021 14:23

Ohh I'd do hello fresh if it's still going. Can pm my email.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/07/2021 16:01

OK - I will keep an eye out for a pm.

My best recipe so far was a halloumi one - I will try and dig it out.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/07/2021 16:03

www.hellofresh.co.uk/recipes/chilli-jam-glazed-halloumi-with-parsley-bulgur-60b756f5bec6113d17429329

Possibly not the lowest in calories but delicious.

HereticFanjo · 27/07/2021 09:18

Marking place

TheSlayer · 27/07/2021 09:30

Thanks for that @SuperLoudPoppingAction. Sadly I had to cancel as they didn't have enough vegan dishes to make it worth delivery. Don't know if you can regive it to someone else.

I'm having a very bad week. In-laws down so lots of eating out, cakes etc. A real shame because I just got into 82 territory. It's bound to zip back up too.
According to BMI I need to be 72 to get in the healthy weight zone...

LargeInCharge · 27/07/2021 18:43

Don’t worry too much about a higher calorie week @TheSlayer you can always fix it afterwards.

Weigh day today for me:

SW - 214lbs
Week 1 - 209.8
Week 2 - 206.8
Week 3 - 205.6
Week 4 - 204.4

Week 11-189.4
Week 12-189

So .8 lost. Not too surprised as I have my period and been slacking with my steps.

It's still a loss @LargeInCharge. I was struggling last week. It was the last week of term for me so lots of party food and presents from the children of lovely treats. I'm back on it again this week and am determined to up my exercise too - I've only been doing 2 workouts a week lately. Last time I weighed myself I was 10 stone 2 but my weight fluctuates so much so no doubt it will be higher next time. Also I'm out for the day in London with my adult DD on Thursday and will definitely be consuming lots of calories. We are starting off with tea and cake then a late lunch of dim-sum and finally making a visit to Donut Time for a doughnut to bring home!!! There will also be shopping between all of the eating!

LargeInCharge · 29/07/2021 07:56

That’s true @Yourownpersonaljesus any loss is a loss.
I hope you and your dd have a wonderful time today and enjoy the treats.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 29/07/2021 20:37

Thanks @LargeInCharge we had a lovely day. I actually enjoyed trying on clothes for once. My calories were actually fine - dim sum are not too calorific (didn't have anything fried). Just home and had a nice cup of tea and my doughnut!

LargeInCharge · 03/08/2021 09:35

I’m glad you enjoyed your day and trying on clothes @Yourownpersonaljesus and well done for keeping your calories in check. It’s easy to have a blow out when you’re enjoying yourself.

Weigh day for me.

SW - 214lbs

Week 4 - 204.4

Week 12-189
Week 13 -189
Week 14 -184.8
Week 15 -184
Week 16 -181.6

Just over 2 pounds lost and apparently I’ve left the 13 stone club and have entered the 12 stone club! If I remember correctly I’ve a stone left to lose until I’m in the NHS’s healthy weight section on their chart.

Happy Tuesday everyone!
