Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Maintaining is great too and exercise. I bet your dog loves it even though he/she kept taking breaks. I’ve not been exercising as my foots still getting better.

My current goal for motivation is to fit a ring I hinted to DH about which he bought me last summer and it’s always been too tight.

Happy Sunday everyone ☀️

Hope you enjoyed your camping trip @SuperLoudPoppingAction. I just rinsed it as I checked some other recipes and none of them mentioned cooking it. They were so good - I'm finishing off the rest of them today.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 13/06/2021 15:40

I had a lovely trip. Heard but did not see a capercaillie so that will motivate me to go again!
Walking up hills with a 13kg backpack has hopefully done things to my metabolism- we shall see.

LargeInCharge · 14/06/2021 04:48

Yesterday’s calories - 1176.

The heat woke me up this morning. I hope today isn’t a 30+ day.

Hi I hope everyone is well I’m just checking in after three weeks of covid hell!

I’ve lost a lot of weight and muscle
and only managing to eat full meals and get my strength back now so will be concentrating on dieting gain this week.

I went from 146lbs down to 138lbs due to illness but I think I’m around 142 now (lots of carbs and potatoes consumed to get my energy back which was needed!!)

I’m hoping to keep it consistent at 142lbs for this week only as I can’t exercise yet, and then steadily lose 1lbs a week. My new goal is 133lbs which is hopefully my stop goal. Grin

LargeInCharge · 14/06/2021 12:34

I was wondering how you were @Themadcatparade that sounds awful. I hope you recover quickly and be kind to yourself. Getting better trumps dieting so take it easy.

Oh @Themadcatparade sorry to hear that you've been so ill. Glad to hear that you're finally on the mend though. Take care of yourself.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 15/06/2021 21:22

Well done @LargeInCharge. You must be really noticing the difference now.

LargeInCharge · 16/06/2021 01:04

Thank you @Yourownpersonaljesus yes I am noticing and dh is too. I’m so glad I started my new healthy eating and reading about everyone else’s experiences/recipes on this thread has been motivating and helpful.

I hope we all get rid of those pesky, unwanted guinea pigs. Grin

I’m not going to be posting my calorie amount daily anymore as I feel it will eventually clog up the chat but I’ll still post my weekly weigh ins on Tuesdays.

Mini goal today….my watch got loose again so it’s on hole #5.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

Definitely a win with the loosening watch strap @LargeInCharge. I hope it's okay for me to hang around even though I'm not losing any weight lately. I love getting recipe ideas and support from you guys. I'm hoping to get back on track soon. It's been a very stressful week at work and when I'm feeling stressed I just want to eat.

LargeInCharge · 17/06/2021 23:35

Cheers @Yourownpersonaljesus and of course you’re welcome here. Maintaining, losing or gaining, we all support each other.

Oh Ive been putting loads on I can feel it but I’m too scared to stand on the scales!

I’m back in the office two days a week and it’s a long journey so I’ve just been mindful to make sure I have breakfast rather than skip it for now to maintain me. Today I have brought:

B: cherry, blackberry strawberry avocado and oat smoothie wi coconut milk.
L: Cajun quinoa with salad and violife greek block and teriyaki sauce.

S: two oranges and some almond butter

Not sure what’s for dinner but the Euros is on so it will most likely be junk food. We have zinger burgers in so might just chop one up for a salad rather than having bread!

Happy Friday hope everyone is well

purplegirl13 · 18/06/2021 12:13

Hi all, I'm still around. I keep wanting to catch up on posts but I've decided to message and catch up from now.

I hope you are all doing well, I've mostly stuck to salads and gazpacho during the hot weather. Watermelon has been a great go-to!

It was my birthday yesterday and I've had 2 dinners out in the lead up, plus a takeaway pizza yesterday and profiteroles as my 'cake'. Dinners out were at Turkish restaurant so halloumi, courgette fritters, salad etc light on the bread. Antibiotics have meant I've been alcohol free for 10 days so no wine on my dinners out or on my birthday.

I have maintained my weight from last Friday which I'm very happy with (9st12.6) and I'm taking a break from calorie counting to see if I can eat more mindfully and maintain under 10st (and ideally continue to lose). My next 2 goals: 9st8.8lbs (1st lost) and 9st2.2 (healthy bmi/no longer overweight)

Today:
B - small amount of greek yogurt and honey (need to buy groceries), and coconut kefir drink
L - cheese and bread, plus prosecco
D - red lentil and chickpea soup from the freezer

The cheese was a birthday gift - a creamy goats cheese made with double cream and creme fraiche and it apparently pairs well with champagne (hence the prosecco)

@Themadcatparade nice to see you back and well - how do you make the cajun quinoa?

purplegirl13 · 18/06/2021 12:16

*9st6.2 would put me at healthy bmi and no longer overweight

Themadcatparade · 18/06/2021 14:00

@purplegirl13 happy birthday for yesterday!!

It’s a packet one from Aldi! We have a few things like that in the cupboard at the moment they are just useful to have in.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 18/06/2021 20:34

Hope you had a lovely birthday @purplegirl13. Mmmm goats cheese!

purplegirl13 · 19/06/2021 10:22

Thanks for the birthday wishes, I am so pleased I was able to maintain my weight for the week.

@Themadcatparade good to know, they are opening an Aldi near me so I'll have to remember to keep an eye out. I am loving the merchant gourmet packs of puy lentils/quinoa for a quick addition to a salad

The cheese, paired with some prosecco yesterday, resulted in me having an afternoon nap! The cheese was very creamy, almost liquid when I sliced into it. I sensibly cut a 70g chuck from the round.

Today's plan:
B - greek yogurt, honey, flaked almonds
L - am out for this - possibly an omelette
D - goats cheese on sourdough
Extras- prosecco, dark chocolate

What does everyone have planned food-wise? I seem to be lacking in inspiration these days.

Hope your birthday was good @purplegirl13 and I hope everyone had a nice weekend and it hasn’t been as cold as it has been here. 🥶

Happy birthday, purplegirl!

I've been eating a fair bit of Thai curry (lets me pile the tofu high to increase protein consumption).

Yesterday I made vegan rollmops which I was delighted with.
They were from a vegan packed lunch recipe book.
They're made out of aubergine.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/06/2021 13:44

www.vegansandra.com/2014/08/pickled-eggplant-rolls-eggplant-rollmops.html?m=1 this is a different recipe- mine didn't use oil - but just sharing so you get the idea!

LargeInCharge · 22/06/2021 08:17
