Weight loss for vegetarians

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Hi everyone. Hope you're all having a lovely weekend. I'm currently waiting for my Ocado delivery - I'm making the halloumi tacos for dinner tonight recommended by @purplegirl13 and can't wait. My calories haven't been too bad the last few days but I'm sure that will change when I go back to work tomorrow.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 06/06/2021 19:37

Just wanted to report back on the tacos- they were amazing. I'm having them again tomorrow!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 06/06/2021 19:41

I made a few adaptations: reduced fat halloumi and no sweetcorn as I'm not keen. Also I used harissa paste instead of chipotle paste. I would highly recommend them.

LargeInCharge · 07/06/2021 09:06

Those tacos sound tasty. I’ll look through the other recipes too.

Yesterday’s total - 1216

I have been using recipe books from the middle East recently.
This weekend I was cooking from 'syria' and 'falastin'.
Some fairly buttery.
Some better.
I made spinach kibbeh and knaffeh

Your food looks good @LargeInCharge. Could you share the recipes please.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 07/06/2021 19:52

I had a terrible day today calorie wise, A child in my class brought cakes in as it was their birthday - I had one at school and brought one home for after dinner!

LargeInCharge · 08/06/2021 10:09

Those delicious photos are SuperLoudPoppingAction’s.

Don’t worry too much about the cake....I bet it was tasty (I miss cake).

Yesterday’s total was 1096 calories.

Today’s weigh in is 195.8 so 2 pounds down from last week and 18.2 pounds down since the beginning of April.

Sorry I meant @SuperLoudPoppingAction.

That's an amazing loss @LargeInCharge - congratulations to you.

Thank you @Yourownpersonaljesus

Yesterday’s total was 970 but I hit my goals and ate a lot considering. Mfp wouldn’t let me complete the day though.

Don't know if this is the right order but this is the spinach kibbeh recipe.

I'm generally obsessed with pomegranate molasses though. A little in some fizzy water gives the same dry taste as cranberry juice. And I had some on roasted cauliflower yesterday.

Tea was roast cauliflower, quark and rice with various pickles.

I reckon if I could try and eat mainly Levantine food I would be ok. Baklava aside.

Knaffeh seems OK because it is mostly cheese.

Hello all. Sorry to have gone AWOL, a hectic week or so here. Just catching up on all your posts and progress. Some amazing weight losses and I need to try the tacos and the kibbeh! Another half pound( small guinea pig here, my body does not want to see this half stone off. I’ve done some great exercise however and feel quite positive about my shape which is nice.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 09/06/2021 12:25

I'm in a similar place - half a pound off and I've been exercising more.

I still think I like my new approach to food. I don't snack as much and am quite happy to be hungry for a bit.
It was ds2's birthday over the weekend, hence pastries, so I would have been surprised if I had lost more than that.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 09/06/2021 17:43

@SuperLoudPoppingAction - thanks for the recipe, they look delicious. I just looked to see if Ocado sell pomegranate molasses and they do so i'll buy the ingredients and make them at the weekend.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 09/06/2021 17:55

I used chunky coarse bulgur because that's what I happened to have, and the texture reminded me more of kibbeh that Syrian friends had made.
From doing a bit of reading, bulgur is less processed (freekeh even better) so it might fit with my current efforts to try and eat less ultra processed food.

LargeInCharge · 10/06/2021 00:50

Today’s total (technically yesterday) is/was 1147.

Good to see you back @NotquitewhatImeant and well done on the small guinea pig and the exercise.

Yesterday’s total = 1044.

To be honest lately I’ve been finding myself full at around 800 calories and forcing myself to eat more to get to 1200 so I’ve decided I’ll finish my day over 1000 if I’ve met my goals but will eat more if I’m hungry. Mfp let’s me complete the diary if I’m over 1000 and I’m getting no joy of having to eat more when I’m full.

LargeInCharge · 11/06/2021 23:14

Today’s total = 1141.

@SuperLoudPoppingAction I have a quick question before I attempt your recipe. Do I need to cook the bulgur wheat before adding it to the other ingredients?

Yourownpersonaljesus · 12/06/2021 17:52

Don't worry @SuperLoudPoppingAction I've made them. They were delicious - thanks for the recipe. Here's a photo of them and the halloumi tacos I made last week.

Your meals look delicious @Yourownpersonaljesus

I bought some quinoa and buckwheat to cook then add to salads with chickpeas, lentils, salad leaves, fresh parsley, maybe mint, low fat salad cheese and quorn. I’ve never tasted quinoa or buckwheat before so fingers crossed. Grin

Yesterday’s calories = 1191.

Your salads sound good @LargeInCharge and full of protein. My calories haven't been low enough this past week - more like the right amount to maintain (which I am) so at least I'm not gaining I suppose. I've walked the dog and worked out this morning so at least I'm working off some of those calories. I'm finding it tough to exercise in this heat though - even the poor dog keeps stopping when we go for a walk! Have a lovely day everyone.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 13/06/2021 09:40

Sorry to miss your message. I've been camping. Those look lovely. Did you cook the bulgur in the end? I used coarse grains so thought I should rinse in boiling water
