Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

That’s fantastic @LargeInCharge. Congratulations!

I’m one guinea pig down. Something clicked this week for me. I think I have just generally been a bit happier in myself and also realised that I can’t do hard exercise whilst dieting. It seems to annoy my autoimmune condition in a way it doesn’t do when I’m not dieting.

Breakfast today was a kvarg yogurt (still not sure about these, prefer fage 0%), lunch was a pitta, quorn vegan ham, veg and some beetroot hummus. Dinnner will be dal and brown rice with some spiced spinach. I’ve got enough calories spare for a couple of snacks and some before bed porridge or bagel (hate feeling hungry in bed).

LargeInCharge · 25/05/2021 13:24

Thank you @Undersnatch and @NotquitewhatImeant well done on your lost guinea pig too.

@Yourownpersonaljesus how are you getting on with your snacking during the day?

@LargeInCharge very well done on your loss!

@SuperLoudPoppingAction let us know how you got on at the picnic.

@NotquitewhatImeant well done on losing that pesky guinea pig! I think I tried kvarg one and wasn't keen, I try to avoid sweeteners so I stick to plain greek yogurt and fruit. I'm pleased to hear you're doing well, half the battle is mindset.

I've not posted over a couple of days - I had an interview yesterday which I completely messed up, made me quite emotional and I comfort ate pizza and tiramisu. Feeling much better today and trying not to dwell on the interview (nerves got the best of me and I turned into a rambling mess)

Brunch today was leftover pizza
S - kefir drink, rye crackers and cottage cheese
D - red thai tofu curry (from the freezer) and brown rice (not made in the pressure cooker due to last week's disaster)

Estimating about 1480 calories

purplegirl13 · 25/05/2021 17:33

*1419 calories for today

Themadcatparade · 25/05/2021 18:28

@LargeInCharge amazing news well done!!!
Flowers

Just checking in, I won’t be on the thread for the while as our household has come with with covid and we are all literally eating the house dry of all carbs now, I am sooo hungry and need the energy Sad

Hopefully I’ll be back on track soon enough. Keep going everyone!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/05/2021 18:28

I love the quorn scotch eggs.

What I actually ate though:
Vegan sausage roll from Greggs
Half a pasta salad my dad got me (no idea why he would think i like pasta salad but I ate half to be polite and then decided manners do not require me consuming 420 calories of bitter greasy food).

The sandwiches were shell-less so that was enjoyable - 1 egg sandwich.

2 lebkuchen because I wanted to bring something people might be happy to eat.

5 quavers.

So not masses.
I'm going to calculate calories now.

LargeInCharge · 25/05/2021 18:29

Thanks @purplegirl13 sorry about your interview and I’m glad you’re not letting it get you down today.

I quite like kvarg, especially because it’s 80 odd calories (depending on the flavour) for 15g of protein. Fage is nice (I’ve only tried the plain one so far) on rice cakes or mixed with chives in a salad.

Well done@LargeInCharge - that's brilliant. About the snacking @purplegirl13... it was going well until today when I tried the miso soup. I didn't like it so had to eat a fibre one cake bar to take the taste away!!! I think I'll stick with the hot chocolate. I won't bother posting what I've eaten today as it's not that exciting. It came to 1796 calories though.

LargeInCharge · 25/05/2021 18:31

Thanks @Themadcatparade urgh horrible covid. I hope you and your family are okay.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/05/2021 18:32

1481 calories altogether today.

Cheese n onion sausage rolls for tea on the bus.

I walked 16000 steps plus.

And also saw many animals including a koala.

LargeInCharge · 25/05/2021 18:32

Thank you @Yourownpersonaljesus I’ll have to check those fibre one bars out.

Hope you feel better soon, @Themadcatparade

LargeInCharge · 25/05/2021 18:33

Glad you had a good day @SuperLoudPoppingAction and a shell-less sandwich. Koalas, how cute.

This guy appeared to be able to eat in his sleep.
But I imagine eucalyptus leaves are fairly healthy.

purplegirl13 · 25/05/2021 18:40

@Themadcatparade oh no, that sucks! I hope you are all not feeling too horrendous, absolutely eat whatever you need to to feel better and don't forget to stay hydrated! If you can, make sure you're also getting enough fruit and veg for the goodness, even if it means buying pre-prepared.

@SuperLoudPoppingAction that actually sounds like a good picnic in terms of what you ate. I hope you enjoyed yourself as well? I love the koala pic

@Yourownpersonaljesus Oh, I'm sorry to hear you didn''t like the miso, but at least you know now!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 25/05/2021 18:46

Forgot to say well done @NotquitewhatImeant for losing that guinea pig. Sorry to hear about the covid cases in your household @Themadcatparade. When I got my sense of taste back after having it I lived on tinned tomato soup with garlic bread! Take care of yourself.

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 25/05/2021 19:10

Hello! When did I start this? Just over a week ago, I think! Anyway, I have lost 4lbs. Would have been more if I hadn't had so much pizza and wine at the weekend, but all progress is good progress! Keep at it everyone!

LargeInCharge · 25/05/2021 19:12

Well done @MayorGundersonsDogRufus that’s a great loss.

OP posts:
Yourownpersonaljesus · 25/05/2021 20:06

That's amazing @MayorGundersonsDogRufus - well done.

LargeInCharge · 26/05/2021 06:54

Yesterday’s food:

B - coffee (double milk) - 47
L - soup, 2 boiled eggs and a kvarg - 299
D - lentil, feta, quorn and spinach salad - 300
S - coffee (single milk), 2 marmite rice cakes, strawberries, a peach, more quorn roast fillet on 2 protein ryvitas - 350
Total - 996

I felt so stuffed again, maybe because I was 18g over my protein goal.

OP posts:
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/05/2021 15:54

I did indeed enjoy myself. I love watching animals especially when accompanied by a toddler's enthused running commentary.

MayorGunderson, that's loads! Well done!

Today so far has been

Cereal bar
Slice of veg bacon and egg fried into half a cup of leftover spaghetti
3 tiny cheese and onion rolls.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 26/05/2021 17:42

@LargeInCharge could you tell me about your protein goals please. I think I'm only just eating enough.

LargeInCharge · 26/05/2021 18:17

Myfitnesspal says my goal is 60g a day (it’ll vary depending on age and/or weight). It might vary due to activity levels but I always choose sedentary because I don’t exercise a lot. Just walking (at a fast pace mostly) and I need to use my rower more.

I used to drink protein shakes but now I get my protein from quorn, tofu, yoghurts, protein ryvitas, eggs and smaller amounts from some vegetables.

I got this from google:

According to the Dietary Reference Intake report for macronutrients, a sedentary adult should consume 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, or 0.36 grams per pound. That means that the average sedentary man should eat about 56 grams of protein per day, and the average woman should eat about 46 grams.

Hello everyone! Thank you for the support for losing that damned guinea pig Grin

Sorry to hear about the covid @Themadcatparade. I hope you all feel better soon.

I love the koala picture @SuperLoudPoppingAction. Very cute, sounds like, a fun day. . And amazing progress @MayorGundersonsDogRufus.

Hope you’ve recovered from the interview @purplegirl13, I think pizza and tiramisu is practically therapeutic in those circumstances.

I’m feeling very bloated today. Always happens mid cycle but is very annoying. I’m reminding myself it will pass. On the plus side I’ve been utterly un-hungry so within calories.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 26/05/2021 18:27

Thanks @LargeInCharge that's really helpful. It looks like I am eating enough after all. I worked out that I should be eating 52 grams per day and today I had 67 grams. I do eat a lot of food though!
