Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Haven’t posted much the past few days, time of the month and I’ve been shaking I’ve needed the carbs so much! So I’ve half eaten healthy and half indulged but my body is telling me it’s very much needed!

I have fasted today (22 hours) to cleanse my body after last nights Indian takeaway Blush and we are on salad and a little bit of pizza tonight for a treat.

Will try and stay off the scales for a few days Grin

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend Flowers

Small victory today....my watch has been getting loose over the last week and today it fits comfortably on the next tighter hole on the strap.🎉

Hi. Hope everyone is well this weekend. Impressive losses @Undersnatch and @purplegirl13.
That paneer recipe looks good - might have to try it.
Today I have eaten:
B - cup of tea, branflakes with semi-skimmed milk
L - Richmond veggie sausage sandwich (so good), natural skyr yoghurt with sliced banana and honey
S - a toasted chocolate orange hot cross bun (found in the depths of my freezer)
D - a 2 egg cheese, onion and tomato omelette

1646 calories so far but I'll have a small pot of Hagaan Dazs ice cream and maybe some cheese and chive snack a jacks later - it is Saturday after all! Noticed that there's not much in the way of fruit and veg there. I have a food delivery coming tomorrow so will do better tomorrow.

LargeInCharge · 22/05/2021 23:08

My daughter and her dh came over today. It was the first time seeing them in over a year and it was lovely. I didn’t have takeaway food but I did have some timbits so my total is 1483.

Undersnatch · 22/05/2021 23:18

Thanks for the encouragement folks. Exciting about the watch @LargeInCharge! I’ve totally gorged tonight. Ate loads of pizza and then tons of crisps! You know when your mouth feels all raw from the crisp coating. Eek, feel yuk. Oh well. Weekend like you say, @Yourownpersonaljesus.

LargeInCharge · 23/05/2021 05:52

Don’t worry @Undersnatch today is a new day. I think most of us have gone over our calorie limits so try not to feel bad about it.

I woke up feeling a bit hungover but I didn’t drink alcohol so maybe it was down to the carbs. Dh is snoring now so there’s not much chance of getting any more sleep.....urgh three hours sleep. A good night’s sleep is supposed to help weight loss.

I'm late to join. This is such a helpful thread!
I have 4stone to lose.
My biggest problem is the days I work. I oh get ten minutes for lunch so I need something quick. I might try ryvita and homemade hummus.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 23/05/2021 09:01

Welcome @Goawaymuppet. I thought my 45 minute lunch break was short! @Undersnatch I'm now craving crisps - love Tyrells smoked paprika. I haven't eaten crisps for so long!

LargeInCharge · 23/05/2021 10:50

Welcome @Goawaymuppet I also have 4 stone to lose.

purplegirl13 · 23/05/2021 12:02

@LargeInCharge I bet it was lovely to see your daughter and her husband!

@Undersnatch you can't tell us about the crisps and not mention what kind they were!

@Goawaymuppet welcome. 10 mins for lunch is nothing! No suggestions here apart from sandwich or salad, but I'm a quick eater so I'm no help

Yesterday:
B - kefir drink
L - letover chilli tofu
D - spaghetti with ooumph meatballs and lots of cheese
S- cucumber slices topped with boursin (nicer than I expected!), 50g bag of nik nak, dark choc
Total:1644 calories

Today:
Brunch was rye toast, 2 poached eggs, avocado and 2 hash browns.
No idea about dinner.

Have a good day everyone

Undersnatch · 23/05/2021 12:19

Mmm that brunch sounds ace, purple. Are you sure you all really want to be salivating over crisps?! Welcome Goaway!

They were M&S cheese tasters!! Hardly sophisticated! There were a few sweet chilli going about but couldn’t get my hand out of the cheesy bag. I got a rubbish sleep with daughter up early, and I actually feel hungover, just from tiredness and salty dehydration! Maybe my body rejecting all the crap a bit. Just preparing an indoor rainy bbq for some family coming over with veg and halloumi skewers and corn on cobs, will try and behave but there will be a birthday cake on the go... very fasty day planned tomorrow for sure!

purplegirl13 · 23/05/2021 12:25

@Undersnatch lots of water today! Those sort of crisps are highly addictive, there's no stopping until they're gone.

purplegirl13 · 23/05/2021 17:15

Had dark chocolate for my afternoon snack. An early dinner of spaghetti, boursin and some frozen chopped spinach thrown in. Feeling very cba.

Made myself a cosmo and its gone down very easily so I'm sticking to one. Calories about 1600 but planning to stay on plan Monday- Thursday

Yourownpersonaljesus · 23/05/2021 17:47

A much better day for me today vegetable wise.
B - cup of tea, weetabix with a small sliced banana on top and semi-skimmed milk
L- 2 slices of seeded wholemeal toast with 1 poached egg and grilled tomatoes, 6 dried prunes
S - a triple chocolate fibre one bar with a cup of tea
D - 4 Linda McCartney Southern Style bites, salad, reduced fat coleslaw, mango chunks and a small banana

Total calories: 1675, which is good for me!

As I was putting some of these in a pot whilst making my lunch for tomorrow I may have tried one or two - they are so good.: www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/chikas-corn-nut-mix-bongo-bbq/803196-741408-741409

LargeInCharge · 24/05/2021 02:06

So tired, I should be sleeping but ended up staying up late watching Netflix with dh.

Total for today....well yesterday now was 1173 calories.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Goawaymuppet · 24/05/2021 05:54

Thanks for the lovely welcome.
I've been making a chopped salad to have at work for lunch.
Kale, spinach, carrot, radishes, cucumber and orange pieces. With orange juice dressing and a few pistachios on top.
Then for sugar cravings a hot chocolate mid-afternoon.

Dinner tonight is sweet potato, red pepper and chickpea curry. With a big spoonful of yogurt.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/05/2021 12:58

I ate an amount of junk at the weekend.

Oh well.

On paper I was still under 1500 calories but I've noticed 1500 calories of junk does not seem to lead to weight loss.

Tonight I'm cooking the salt and vinegar tofu from the guardian weekend section with kale and air fryer chips.

LargeInCharge · 24/05/2021 18:45

Salt and vinegar tofu sounds nice.

B - coffee
L - Greek yoghurt with garlic, chives, salt and pepper with lentils and quorn - 195
D - quorn lasagne and a kvarg yoghurt - 439
S - philly milka with 2 ryvita fruit crunch - 165

Total so far 825 calories.

I’ve hit my protein and fibre goals and I feel so full but I’ll have something later when I’m hungry.

Interesting - same day as the BBC one about ultra processed food

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/05/2021 23:34

www.theguardian.com/food/2021/may/22/yotam-ottolenghi-tofu-recipes-spicy-sambal-beer-battered-coconut-flan-coffee-caramel

The tofu is here- it was, indeed, nice.

The kids enjoyed it and tofu can be hit and miss with them.
I missed out maybe 50% of the spices i did not have. Substituted black pepper and chilli.

Dp doesn't like nori. And instead of tofu sauce i mixed capers and mayonnaise.
Still a lower calorie day than the weekend.

Tomorrow will see me eating a picnic. Goodness knows how that will go.
I've packed a cereal bar and yoghurt for breakfast.
Salted popcorn for a snack and tangerines. Requested my dad leaves butter off the egg sandwiches.
I would ideally like to be able to request he does not add any shell but I dont think that would go down well.

LargeInCharge · 25/05/2021 01:14

Thanks for that recipe @SuperLoudPoppingAction
The comment about shell in the sandwich made me smile. I hope you have a good picnic tomorrow.
Do you like quorn? They do roast fillet slices that are ready to eat, low calorie and high in protein.

My total today was 972 but I was truly stuffed. Mfp wouldn’t let me complete my diary day but oh well.

Weigh day for me!

SW - 214lbs
Week 1 - 209.8
Week 2 - 206.8
Week 3 - 205.6
Week 4 - 204.4
Week 5 - 202.0
Week 6 - 198.8

Just over 3 guinea pigs lost! I weighed myself twice because I couldn’t believe it.
That’s three important milestones for me, losing over a stone, getting out of the 200’s and the most important...my bmi is no longer in the obese category.

So happy.
