Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Forgot to add

L: 641
D: 352

Total 994. Will poss have some blueberries or some dark chocolate later for a snack.

purplegirl13 · 19/05/2021 18:23

@LargeInCharge well done on the weight loss!

@Themadcatparade sorry to hear the swim experience yesterday was horrible, but good that it went better today!

Logging for today:

no breakfast as was busier than expected and I didn't get to have lunch until nearly 2pm
L - 2 scrambled eggs with some boursin, 2 LM sausages (424)
D - last night's chilli, and some pre-cooked quinoa, with cheddar and guacamole (629)
S - dark chocolate (15g) and a peach (141)

I was meant to have brown rice for dinner and decided to brave using the pressure cooker - something went wrong and the rice was burnt dry! The inside is scorched black!

And for transparency, I went for some more dark chocolate buttons last night so ended up at about 1385 cals yesterday.

purplegirl13 · 19/05/2021 18:35

Oh and my total for today is 1194 (unless I snack later)

LargeInCharge · 19/05/2021 18:57

Thanks @purplegirl13 shame about your brown rice. Hopefully someone with a pressure cooker can help.

Sorry about the pool experience @Themadcatparade but I’m glad you got a nice swim at your usual pool.

My food today is pretty much the same as yesterday apart from asparagus instead of cauliflower rice. I made more of an effort with breakfast today so I don’t end up with tons of calories spare. I’ve done over 6k steps today.

B - 305
L - 317
D - 158
S - 156
Total 936 with 264 left to snack and watch the sewing bee later Grin

Hi everyone. This is what I've eaten today:
B - cup of tea, very small bowl of branflakes with a chopped banana on top and skimmed milk
S - an apple
L - a reduced fat cheese sandwich, tomato soup, small bag pf apricots (70cals), skinny dark chocolate and mint bar
S - portion of Graze veggie power
D - spaghetti with homemade tomato and pepper sauce, 3 waitrose veggie balls, slice of garlic bread, an activia fig yoghurt

It's roughly 1800 calories. I didn't weigh anything but have overestimated if unsure I think. Everyone else's calories are much less than mine but I've noticed that not many of you eat breakfast. I can't wait for my breakfast in the morning!

KihoBebiluPute · 19/05/2021 20:43

2nd stage job interview this afternoon.

B: banana
7.5km run
Interview prep
L: quorn chicken and lettuce tortilla, houmous and carrot sticks, some squeaky bean pastrami and raw mushrooms. Some ricecakes. an apple and 2 chocolate corncakes. Guess 600cal.

Then interview.

Since interview- half a bottle of wine and more rice cakes. That's probably quite a lot of calories.

About to eat some chilli. Hmm. No longer capable of calculating the calories tho.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 19/05/2021 21:00

Post interview calories definitely don't count

purplegirl13 · 19/05/2021 21:07

Nor do pre-interview calories

KihoBebiluPute · 19/05/2021 21:12
Wine
LargeInCharge · 20/05/2021 10:30

When I lost weight a few years ago I quit breakfast because I couldn’t keep within my calorie limit because I hadn’t changed my diet, I just reduced the portions so the no breakfast thing stuck @Yourownpersonaljesus

Yesterday’s total 1180

purplegirl13 · 20/05/2021 13:00

@Yourownpersonaljesus I've never been one for eating breakfast straight away, and don't like cereal/porridge so it was always toast/crumpets etc. The place I worked at last didn't have a toaster so I've moved on to greek yogurt and fruit or a kefir drink. Both low calorie, and I always have lunch at 12pm or soon after.

purplegirl13 · 20/05/2021 13:02

I'm feeling horribly tired today (damn insomnia)so I'm going to have to make a real effort to not reach for sugar today - it's weigh in day for me tomorrow so that should keep me on track

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 20/05/2021 15:00

I had 400 calories of fast food for lunch. I'm so hungry now.
I'm going to need to plan a protein-heavy dinner i think.

purplegirl13 · 20/05/2021 19:06

I haven't felt 100% today so a bit of a snack-y day. Lunch was soup and crackers. The rest of the day: trifle, nuts, dark choc, toast. I'm hoping that's it for today.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 20/05/2021 19:11

I had sausage casserole which was excellent. Richmond sausages which I love. The kids seem to eat them.
I also made rhubarb and apple turnovers and a crumble because our rhubarb was needing to be used.
I have eaten half a turnover and a very small amount of crumble and enjoyed both, but haven't felt the need to eat any more.

Undersnatch · 20/05/2021 22:28

Hello, I haven’t been around for a week or two, sounds like everyone is doing fab. I had a 2lb loss this week after staying same last week when I had been so strict. 7lb loss since I started and fitting more comfortably into a few clothes which is exciting!

Today I had
B muesli
L itsu pot noodle thing and some oatcakes
D baked potato with a veggie sausage and mixed veg.
I’m doing ww so speak in points not calories but that was 1 point over daily budget!

I’m interested in all the casserole mentions - what does that look like as a veggie?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 20/05/2021 22:54

My casserole recipe was pretty much a straight swap as Richmond sausages are so close to the real thing.
I didnt use a recipe from anywhere - just made it up.
Browned sausages, fried onion and garlic, added mixed herbs, braised some veg, chopped sausages up, added a tin of tomatoes, some engevita flakes, some beer and cooked it for a while. Served with rice.
I enjoyed it immensely. Fussy kids ate it which was nice.

LargeInCharge · 21/05/2021 00:15

Congrats on the loss @Undersnatch

B - coffee - 26
L - soup, 2 eggs and mango afterwards - 312
D - quorn lasagne, sugar snap peas & asparagus - 380
S - rice cakes, kvarg, ryvitas, philly milka & burton fish n chips snack - 452
Total - 1170 calories

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 21/05/2021 03:57

Some impressively low calorie counts here! Hope everyone is feeling positive and motivated! I've had a good few days (not as good at some of you at tracking calorie intake!) but am now awake at 4am starving hungry! Don't want to go for a snack as I'll wake the dogs up. Grin

Yesterday had:
Breakfast - coffee, strawberries
Lunch - goats cheese salad
Dinner - two haloumi, cucumber and tomato wraps
Snack - Be Kind protein bar
Snack - wine Blush

purplegirl13 · 21/05/2021 10:53

Weigh in day for me. I have lost the pre-period bloat/gain from last week

12/03/21 -0.4lbs
19/03/21 -1.4lbs
26/03/21 -1lbs
02/04/21 - 0.8lbs
09/04/21 -1lbs
16/04/21 -0.2lbs
23/04/21 -1.2lbs
30/04/21 +0.2lbs
07/05/21 -1.4lbs
14/05/21 +1lbs
21/05/21 -2.2lbs

Total loss: 8.4lbs (8 guinea pigs)

purplegirl13 · 21/05/2021 10:59

@Undersnatch well done on those 2lbs! If you see my weight loss over the last few months, you'll see the downward trend. It's been interesting to note that before my period I lose very little or even gain, but a couple of weeks later it evens out. For example, there's no way I gained a 'proper' 1lb last week but would have been retaining water, hence the 2.2lb drop this week.

@MayorGundersonsDogRufus did you resist the 4am snacking? Don't worry about not counting calories if it's not for you.

Undersnatch · 21/05/2021 11:07

Yes I was thinking that, @purplegirl13, the week with no loss was around ovulation though and I feel less bloated now that period is due in a few days, will be interested to see how that pattern goes over the weeks.

8 whole guinea pigs!!! Amazing!! Grin

NotquitewhatImeant · 21/05/2021 11:45

Hello all. Just reading through the thread and catching up. Some amazing guinea pigs being lost here Grin. Hope the interview went well @KihoBebiluPute. All fine here. Was under the weather mid week and lacking in sleep but held it together. Hoping this weeks weigh in is a little more positive

LargeInCharge · 21/05/2021 14:28

Congrats @purplegirl13 you must be pleased with that loss.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic Friday.

OP posts:
purplegirl13 · 21/05/2021 17:15

@Undersnatch as long as you're mostly on track, the scales should continue to go down even if you don't see it one week. I'm pretty pleased by losing 8 guinea pigs, another half of one will see me under the next stone bracket so hoping to get there next week

@NotquitewhatImeant if you held it together whilst feeling unwell and tired, you did well!

@LargeInCharge thanks, it's very slow going but I need to be patient.

Logging for the day:
B - coconut yogurt with kiwi fruit
L - homemade red lentil and chickpea soup
S - rhubarb trifle
Dinner with be chilli tofu and leftover quinoa
I normally use this recipe for a chilli paneer but am planning to try it with tofu today www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/chilli-paneer-recipe/

Total calories will be low, about 1100 for the day but will be going over tomorrow and Sunday so all balances out.
