Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Hi @MayorGundersonsDogRufus - so sorry for your loss. I'm not sure of my exact calorie count today - had leftover sweet and sour tofu from the freezer and had no idea how many calories it had. I'm guessing I had about 1800 though. I did cut down on snacks @purplegirl13 so that's something. I'm a teacher and always fancy something once the kids have gone home. It's a long time between lunch and dinner otherwise (around 6 hours). I was so hungry when I got home today.

purplegirl13 · 17/05/2021 18:44

@Yourownpersonaljesus thta's good but what about a boiled egg (if you're not vegan) or some nuts? A little hungry is ok, I think we've forgotten what it feels like to be hungry but anything above slightly hungry and I get 'hangry' and want to eat everything in sight.

purplegirl13 · 17/05/2021 18:45

what about a sachet of miso soup? I'm always surprised how filling I find it.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 17/05/2021 18:57

I could try a boiled egg or miso soup @purplegirl13. I've added nuts to my diet but they are very calorific. I'd got used to feeling hungry when I first started losing weight but I must admit I'm finding it difficult losing this last 7lbs. I thought I'd be happy when I got to ten and a half stone but my stomach is still huge even though I exercise so I need to carry on

Yourownpersonaljesus · 17/05/2021 19:00

What miso soup would you recommend @purplegirl13? I'll add it to my next Ocado order.

purplegirl13 · 17/05/2021 19:34

Nuts are calorific and l now portion them out but l find them quite filling.

www.ocado.com/products/itsu-miso-easy-chilli-miso-402547011

They go down to about £1.50 a pack when on offer. I've found them much better than a jar as although more expensive l don't need to waste any. Also easy for a very quick meal at home, throw in any fresh or frozen veggies, some dumplings/ rice noodles and you have a quick low calorie meal. I find it good if I'm not well or have few groceries in.

What about some edamame in pods? High in protein

Yourownpersonaljesus · 17/05/2021 19:48

Thanks @purplegirl13.

Themadcatparade · 17/05/2021 21:04

I love miso!!

Fasting went better than expected today o managed to push it to 23 hours!! 😱

No hunger, no dizziness, no temptation, I even did some light yoga midday. I made my dinner to take to my DDs dancing lesson and didn’t touch it. I finally ate at 8pm tonight and it was fab, super proud of myself. I’ve had ketosis bad breath for the afternoon and evening though which was rank but at least I know that my body was working off some of that stubborn fat so it was worth it.

My dinner tonight was:

‘Meatball and feta’ salad with avocado, sugar snaps, grilled asparagus and red pesto. - 480

Tsp of marmite and almond butter to follow which is my fave little snack at the moment - 43cals

My partner brought home some vegan chicken drumsticks from Morrison’s so as I have quite a huge allowance left I might have some of those for supper.

I need to eat regularly tomorrow as I might be off swimming Smile.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 17/05/2021 21:14

Last night I made the veg tagine from the first Pinch of Nom book and it was lovely.
I had it again for lunch today. It is nearly 100% vegetables. I substituted for the veg I had including celeriac which was possibly my favourite bit.

Tonight dp made carbonara with veggie bacon. I find it hard to work out what is a sensible portion of spaghetti.
I am assuming I had 2 cups for the purpose of calorie counting.

purplegirl13 · 17/05/2021 21:21

themadcat I got hungry and dizzy just reading about your 23hr fast!

super I don't think I've ever had celariac!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 17/05/2021 22:28

Oh I love celeriac so much.
It's often reduced in asda and tesco so I often eat it.
In France they use it a lot more than celery stalks. I think it has a rounder flavour.

LargeInCharge · 18/05/2021 00:20

Welcome @MayorGundersonsDogRufus I’m sorry for your loss.

B - coffee - 26
L - tomato and basil soup, threw some spinach in and 2 boiled eggs - 214

Thank you for the kind messages!

Yesterday was ok:
Omelette around 11am
Big salad with boiled eggs, mozarella and rice at 6pm

I did have a few sneaky chocolate biscuits at about 4pm but they're gone now, so hopefully today will be better! Smile

Themadcatparade · 18/05/2021 08:17

Happy Tuesday!

Jumped on the scales this morning and I was absolutely buzzing to see I’ve finally made it to my 147lbs first target, I’ve been hovering two-three lbs above it for almost three weeks now so I’m thrilled to see I’m back in the 10 and a half stone range!!

Lots of decently portioned healthy meals with some careful snacks of dark chocolate this week to see if I can maintain it, I’m so so so happy!

8 Guinea pigs lost so far Grin Wine

I’m not sure what’s on the schedule for today’s meals but I will raid the fridge and whip up something nice and clean I’m sure.

We have our first ever dining in experience planned for this Saturday at a lovely vegan place we have wanted to try for ages for DP’s birthday, I’m very much looking forward to indulging.

@Yourownpersonaljesus I find a spoon of almond or peanut butter really does the job for craving hunger pangs, and I used to have a light hot chocolate for sweet cravings too. I think depending on the milk you use it can be very filling and keep cravings away for a good hour or so.

purplegirl13 · 18/05/2021 10:19

@SuperLoudPoppingAction send your celeriac recipes my way! I'm excited...

@MayorGundersonsDogRufus wishing you a good day now the pesky biscuits have gone

@Themadcatparade very good news indeed! It'll keep you more mindful this week I am sure.

After having an early dinner yesterday, I was hungry about 8pm but luckily had a boiled egg to reach for, followed by some dark chocolate

Have a good day everyone

LargeInCharge · 18/05/2021 11:16

Happy Tuesday indeed!

I’ve lost 2lbs (I mean guinea pigs) and I’m pretty pleased about that. Dh is noticing the loss now too which is added extra motivation.

SW - 215lbs 214lbs
Week 1 - 209.8
Week 2 - 206.8
Week 3 - 205.6
Week 4 - 204.4
Week 5 - 202.0

Good on you for banishing those biscuits @MayorGundersonsDogRufus

Congrats on reaching your first target @Themadcatparade and Saturday sounds great. I hope your dp has a lovely birthday.

Themadcatparade · 18/05/2021 11:34

@LargeInCharge thank you I’m sure he will!

That’s a decent steady loss there, well done! It’s a wonderful feeling when others notice the change in you as well, a really good boost

Meal plan for the day:

L: avocados stuffed with Cajun spiced mince from the vegetarian butcher - not tried mince by those yet but it looks good. Really low carb too! A side of salad and maybe a few pieces of sweet chilli tofu.
D: mushroom and ‘chicken’ stir fry with soy and Chinese spices. No rice.
Snack: strawberry and blueberry smoothie post swim.

It’s a later swim tonight as the usual timetable for lane swimming at my local centre has changed due to them going back to normal, no more after work swim sessions for me and I’m gutted 😞 I’ve had to go for an 8pm swim at a different pool so my anxiety will be high tonight with the change.
I might go for a small walk or do some light Pilates on my dinner break.

My friend is cutting my hair and doing eyelash extensions on me on Friday in time for our birthday date, which I’m very excited and also anxious for. I haven’t had my hair cut in two years and it’s very long now! I’m looking forward to feeling a bit more girlie, I’ve been living in my yoga pants for over a year now Grin. I’m looking forward to seeing how much better my going-outy clothes fit on me now I’ve lost the lockdown weight!

LargeInCharge · 18/05/2021 13:31

Thanks @Themadcatparade

That sucks about the pool. Even though you’ll feel anxious today I bet when you walk out after your swim you’ll feel stronger because you did it. Try and focus on how good you’ll feel after your makeover too.
You’ll smash it!

B - coffee - 26
L - same soup as yest (283g), 2 medium sized boiled eggs, 175g strawberries & Fanta zero - 265
D - 2 quorn fillets & 101g mushrooms marinading in 2 tbsp sriracha & 1 tbsp light soy. Will have it with cauliflower rice - 163

Total 454 calories.....I’m not eating 746 cals of snacks 😂 so it might be a lower than low calorie day today, we’ll see.

OP posts:
purplegirl13 · 18/05/2021 18:40

Am logging my meals for today.

B - honey kefir drink (161)

Yourownpersonaljesus · 18/05/2021 21:16

Well done @Themadcatparade and @LargeInCharge - great news on the weight losses. I have added some Miso and Cadbury's Highlights hot chocolate to my Ocado order to keep at work. Sweet and savoury cravings covered!

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 18/05/2021 21:26

Brilliant work on the weight loss! And impressive amount of effort some of you are making! I'm being super lazy Grin

Today's log

  • Benecol yoghurt drink for brekkie
  • Omelette for lunch
  • gazpacho soup and three crackers with Philadelphia for dinner
One (only one!) rice cake with white chocolate

Went out and bought tons of fruit earlier for snacking purposes!

Am going to hold off weighing myself until the weekend.

LargeInCharge · 18/05/2021 21:40

Thank you @Yourownpersonaljesus and @MayorGundersonsDogRufus

Good idea to keep those cravings covered.

I had an extra 272 calories in protein yoghurt and dates and I’m now at 726 so I’ll probably have a coffee and try the marmite rice cakes I got.

Hope everyone’s having a good evening.

OP posts:
LargeInCharge · 19/05/2021 06:34

I had 2 rice cakes and a Fanta zero last night so my grand total was 795.
One low day won’t do me any harm but I couldn’t complete my diary day on mfp.
I still hit my protein and fibre goals.

Happy Wednesday!

Swimming was horrible last night in the new centre it was so busy and loud and I had to go in to the slow lane as it was cramped, so many people were just loitering around rather than the lane swimming for fitness what the sessions are actually for! Absolute waste of my evening that was

I managed to get a quick 25 minute lunchtime swim in my usual pool and it was so much better and quieter. Managed a proper cardio session and feel refreshed and relaxed from it now Grin

L: taco stuffed avocado with salad and cheese.
D: sweet potato casserole, I have treated myself to a carb allowance since my weight is plummeting down. Loads of veg! Casseroles are staple in our family home and because of my diet we haven’t had one for over two months now so it will be a nice treat, it’s the kids favourite.

Hope everyone is well and healthy and are managing some super yummy meals!
